* Local 150 of the Operating Engineers convinced an Indiana judge that the state’s “right to work” law was unconstitutional. Today, the Indiana Supreme Court reversed that decision and upheld the statute’s constitutionality. Read the opinion by clicking here.

Yeah, all the hundreds of thousands of dues/PAC money needlessly spent on Grimm’s campaign…nice purchase of 4%-7%. And now the legal defense dollars. Good money gone to complete waste.
Who knows…maybe Governor Rauner rolls back some 150 project labor agreements. Maybe roll back some IDOL prevailing wage classifications.
Some serious misfortune.

THEGUN…I did say “dues” and that is from the wages of working people who are dues paying members of OE Local 150. The PAC fund is part of what gets deducted from their wages. There is no magic source of the funds being spent here.

Come on… you win some you lose some, and there’s an argument to be made that the money should’ve been spent differently, but the implication of the comment above is that anytime a union contributes money to a losing candidate it was a waste. Well, THEGUN, why don’t you let 150 know who is going to win before every election so they can be sure to never back a loser.
Was there money supporting Quinn in 2010 a complete waste? Should they sit on the sidelines while a candidate who declares his love for right-to-work waltzes into office?
It was good, hard working, blue collar workers’ money going to support a candidate that supports them.

Is this really turning into another Illinois vs. Indiana debate? I don’t know who had greater job growth over the last 5 years. I know which state’s jobs pay a greater average wage. And which state’s citizens have a higher median income, greater healthcare coverage, better schools, infrastructure, less poverty, and a better social safety net. Wanna guess which one? Is seemingly every Big 10 grad moving to Indiana to plant there flag or Illinois?

Interesting; short and to the point. Picking through it, basically, it appears the union picked the wrong form of challenge and were promptly and summarily dismissed. Reading the concurring decision, I get the impression they might have had a chance if they had phrased the challenge properly.
You have to pick your battlefield to match your strengths, and they picked the wrong one.

I had real bad vibes in listening to Rauner. I would expect a war on organized labor. Look for the right to work zones. Look for an attempt to destroy government unions. I also believe Rauner will use the threat of an expensive primary to intimidate both parties. He owns the GOP look for him to establish a wing of Rauner Inc in the Democratic Party.

Unions are victim of their own success.
You’ve got working class shmucks now who were born on third base and think they hit a triple, like they owe nothing to the folks who came before them.

Over 10 years ago, material testing techs had to unionize. Local 150 is pushing to have surveyors become part of 150. Come January expect IDOL to have a less sypathetic ear. So you can believe Local 150 will be pulling a full-court press over the next 2 months.
