SEIU Healthcare Illinois launched a television ad campaign today calling on Gov. Bruce Rauner and the Illinois General Assembly to protect funding for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).
The Department of Human Services announced a $300 million budget shortfall last month that will leave 160,000 thousand children in low-wage households without safe, reliable child care services.
The ad is one part of an aggressive campaign being led by early childhood education advocates, parents, childcare providers and children’s organizations throughout Illinois to restore funding for the child care program. It will be shown in all major media markets in the state including: Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, Quad-Cities and Champaign. The ad will air Feb. 11 through Feb. 18.
Susan and Jason McWhirter and their two children are featured in the ad. (Click here for a profile of the family). The Peoria family relies on the child care program to go to work.
“We’re very concerned about losing child care assistance,” Mrs. McWhirter said. “’My husband and I both work and I go to school so I can get a better job. Many families have no options but to leave their children in the care of others while they make a living for their family. The child care program gives me and my family options for child care that we can trust.”
The ad comes the week before Gov. Rauner is set to unveil his budget proposal on Feb. 18. The Chicago Tribune called the shortfall an “immediate test” for the governor. Working parents and children’s advocates across the state have been very vocal about the crisis and the devastating impact of not fully funding the program.

It’s a pass. It doesn’t place the blame where it belongs, but it’s effective in asking the Governor to save something important. When that happens, and it will, on a bipartisan basis, the Governor can run the identical ad saying he saved a program others put in serious jeopardy. That’s exactly how I’d play it.

A+. I am sure SEIU’s motivations have nothing to do with collection of dues with public money, but they are really concerned about childcare.

Thanks for asking Sling. Even politely. I’m taken aback! lol.
The funding will get restored because it’s in every person’s interest to restore it. It will help with a sweep of where the restoration comes from…and since this problem (of the Democratic Legislature’s making, which is beyond argument at this juncture) was laid at the feet of the Governor, he gets to run his own media saying:
“I didn’t break it sweet young lady, but I fixed it”
That will help the Governor. A lot.

Solid ad. Straight to the point, people will be out of the workforce and families and children and the economy will suffer if the funding is not provided.

The Unions really need to whack Rauner’s poll numbers and they can’t wait for the House and Senate Dems to act. “Governor Rauner, please save _________” may be the finish for many a TV ad before this is all over…

Rauner also promised that he’d properly fund my K-12 school, cut my income taxes and freeze my property taxes. What happens when he fails to deliver on any of these big ticket items?

I guess you’ll have to see what happens B&F. If he doesn’t fail; nothing. If he does; SEIU will cut another commercial.

My point was that he can’t save a whole lot of the little stuff if he intends to deliver on the big stuff…my bet is that a lot of little stuff will get cut and so more commercials ending with “Governor Rauner, please save _________” will get cut. The problem that Rauner has is that he’s made so many videotaped promises that there’s alot of material “in the can” that the Unions can work with to knock his numbers down.
Now, if he truly delivers on the 3 big ticket items: funding K-12, cutting income taxes and freezing property taxes, his cuts to the little stuff may not matter…but I guess you’ll have to see what happens…AG

So if Rauner does what SEIU asks, they will have “inadvertently” allowed him to say “I did what you asked.”

It’s formulaic, but personal, as personal as you can get in :30.
Dunno if any :30 formulaic Ad is worthy of an “A”, so this is as high as I probably can go.

There are a lot of small individual providers, hardly unionized. This could put them out of business and drive them into poverty. I don’t always agree with SEIU but right on here
