  1. At 8am 42 people had voted in my north side polling place. I saw sigs by the polling place for Rahm and Chuy but no other mayoral candidate. Our Alderman had people passing palm cards but even though he is aligned with Rahm there was no mention of Rahm on them. No one else was palm carding.

  2. “Sigs” should have been “signs”.

Comment by Lakefront Liberal Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:10 am

  3. There do seem to be several alderman who were supporting Rahm who were distancing themselves beginning last night. I don’t know what that means if anything. I think it could be a nail biter as far as the runoff goes. It’s hard to tell, but it feels like Chuy is surging after Emanuel had the momentum a week ago.

  4. @Lakefront Liberal
I thought you meant sigs, as in cigarettes. Of course I wouldn’t be surprised as to how much stress is going on at the moment. Thanks for clarifying.

  5. Waiting until the evening to vote in the 45th Ward. Nobody outside my polling place when I went by. Only signs out front were for the aldermanic candidates and Rahm. Fioretti was shaking hands and doing a TV interview at the JP transit center around 8am (first time I’ve seen him there).

  6. Lots of signs at neighborhood polling places. I had no time to vote this morning, so I’ll vote this evening.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:23 am

  7. 40 people had voted by 8:15 at my site. Quiet.

    Comment by 47th ward mom Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:25 am

  8. just voted, 49 people at my site in the 47th ward.

got my car repaired last night and saw two different people pounding the pavement. One for Chuy, one for Scott Waugespack.

Comment by Ravenswood Right Winger Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:27 am

  9. 30 votes as of 8:15 at my polling place (47th ward). Pretty sure that doesn’t include early votes. Nobody passing literature (which wouldn’t do much good in an election like this), but I did see a guy running around the neighborhood with a map and door hangers. One was left on my door before 7:30.

Pawar/Emanuel lit was being passed together. This is Rahm country, so no big risk there. The challenger to Pawar actually had some door hangers out as well, which was a surprise. That one won’t be close.

Comment by Snucka Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:32 am

  10. 79 votes so far in precinct 36. Not bad.

The wind is howling from the west, forcing the passers inside to stay warm. Myself included.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:32 am

  11. Easy going in Chicago’s 40th ward. About 40 people had voted as of 7:30. Signs only for the aldermanic candidates.

Comment by Left Leaner Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:33 am

  12. Just got writing in Bruce Rauner for the 2015 MLB Hall of Fame announcement in July. Early sources say he’s already committed $6.5 Million to the campaign. Who knew Illinois was a trial run for Cooperstown?

Comment by Midstate Indy Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:36 am

  13. Springfield has had an amazingly positive race for mayor. The candidates have been gentlemanly, have discussed the future of the city in positive ways and have been open in detailing how they would govern. Nothing like the most recent presidential and gubernatorial races.. Voters say they like this instead of negative campaigns. But it looks like Springfield will have almost no turnout rewarding this positive campaign.

Comment by Publius Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:40 am

  14. No turnout in Chicago. Aldermanic candidates not circulating for Rahm.

    Comment by Gb20 Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:49 am

  15. I was #31 this morning @ 8:25 a.m. in Precinct 5 of Ward 44. Registration is 698. Does’ the say much for democracy.

Comment by Andy Raucci Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:55 am

  16. That should be “Doesn’t say much for democracy.”

Comment by Andy Raucci Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 9:57 am

  17. Rich is in his censorship mood again

    Comment by William j Kelly Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:00 am

  18. In the 42nd ward Brendan Reilly has his government crews picking up signs of all of Brian Hopkins’ opponents… but leaving Brian’s up.

    Definitely a reformer.

Comment by WizzardOfOzzie Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:00 am

  19. In the new third ward, no door hangers or vote pieces this whole last week. Horton signs (a few) made their first appearance, no Rahm signs at all, some for Fioretti (his old ward). No lines at precinct.

47, good luck with whatever you’re passing. That’s the unsung hero work. Regardless of preference, I admire everyone who does it.

  21. I was number 28 (I think) at 8:15 in Precinct 19 of the 44th Ward (East Lakeview). There was a person passing literature for Aldermanic candidate Mark Thomas, who is running against Tunney, along with someone passing flyers for the paid sick leave referendum. There was a bit of a line at the other precinct that shares the same polling place, but that may have just been because the election judges seem to have a really hard time finding people on the computers — takes longer than when they were using the binders.

Comment by Jabes Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:19 am

  22. Andy, I share your dismay about turn out, I guess some people just tune out when they feel their views aren’t represented in the media or politics. I guess that’s why censorship is key to Rahm’s and the Rahm media’s success.

    Comment by William j Kelly Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:23 am

  23. Low turnout would. Be a Rahm killer if any of his opponents were organized Mr. Kelly!

    Comment by Gb20 Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:37 am

  24. Mr. Gb20! I feel your. Pain!

    Comment by William j Kelly Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:39 am

  25. 7:30 AM in 3rd Ward 9 people had voted. I was asked for ID, and the one electronic voting machine wasn’t working at all. It was a bizarre voting experience!

Comment by Hamilton Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:43 am

  26. Low turnout usually favors the machine. That’s why we still have this election in February. However, I think the anti-Rahm folks are much more passionate than the pro-Rahm side. That could definitely hurt Rahm.

Comment by Carhartt Representative Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 10:43 am

  27. Chicago, 25th Ward - I was the 35th voter in my precinct at 10:00am. Adjacent precinct in same polling place had 28 votes cast. Solis will cruise.

    Comment by Danny's All-Star Joint Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 11:26 am

  28. Kind of quiet in the 43rd Ward. Anyone but Michelle Smith feeling out there. And very cold!

Comment by Because I said so..... Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 11:33 am

  29. btw, was #41 at 9:00 in the 47th ward. Precinct had about 300 votes cast (including early/absentee) last time.

Do remember that there were 90,000 early votes cast, which would be nearly 20% of the 2011 turnout.

  30. @Carhartt - sounds good, but may not be true:

  31. 39th voter at 11:30, a little low.

Comment by Rhino Slider Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 11:54 am

  32. All candidate signs are being pulled throughout the city of Chicago. The streets and sanitation commissioner sent a letter warning candidates that they would be pulled if they were in the public right-of-way.

    Comment by A. Lincoln Tuesday, Feb 24, 15 @ 11:59 am

  33. Anonymiss, thanks for the link, I heard the promo, but didn’t get to listen. I have no doubt that there was a real reason for it, but I believe the reason it’s still in February is to keep turnout down.
