* Rep. Poe doesn’t look like he’ll be following recent paths out the House door. Just the opposite, in fact

Representative Raymond Poe’s return to Illinois may not be the best news for Governor Bruce Rauner. Poe will be back at work next week after spending three months in Texas receiving treatment for a blood disorder.

And he’s ready to oppose some of the governor’s proposals… including Rauner’s call to move all state workers to the less generous Tier 2 pension system. Poe says he’s also willing to consider additional revenue for the state… so long as the money is used to pay off old bills and make required pension payments.

  1. Rep. Poe,

Careful. Free thinking is not encouraged by this Governor.

I’m rooting for you, in all your returns.

===I do not see that another two years will provide any advantage.===

    Ok.

You read the fiscal realities we are facing, Comptroller Topinka has made a case to solve a 2015 fiscal problem.

    What do you suggest?

I couldn’t agree more with Comptroller Topinka. I strongly felt, and still feel that keeping the rate for 2015, and reducing by half the increase for fiscal 2016, and phasing out the the other half in 2017 is loads better than going from all to nothing.

All to nothing leads to fiscal problems in this climate, and given the hand the Illinois government has given itself.

So, what is the plan if Comptroller Topinka has to face these list revenues as possibly real?===

    I miss Comptroller Topinka

    Still would’ve phased it out.

  14. I wish our new state rep Terri Bryant would stand up to Chicago politics like this. The only thing she can talk about is BBQ when SIU workers about about to be slashed by the GOV.

Shoukd it be “hot”? I thought Gov. Rauner is apt to give dispensation, wouldn’t Rep. Poe be a likely candidate to be a person who “needs” that?

Or, is Gov. Rauner just not into “free thinking” or “understanding constituencies”?

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Mar 2, 15 @ 2:13 pm

  19. After surviving his illness, I don’t think Brucie will be much of a threat. Go Get Em, Ray!

  20. In other news, does it matter? Poe is one vote and has no real juice under the dome. I highly doubt he was ever figured in the 60 vote equation.

  21. ===Poe is one vote and has no real juice under the dome. I highly doubt he was ever figured in the 60 vote equation.===

That’s where the $20 million kinda brings Poe into the equation more than another Dem vote.

Rauner is more likely to hammer and shake Poe with a primary threat, and some soothing words, than go after another needed Dem vote MJM can deliver with a steeper price.

Dangerous times in the ILGOP GA

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Mar 2, 15 @ 2:24 pm

  22. I hope for Rep. Poe’s continued improvement. I’m guessing he has run up quite a lot of medical bills.

If the Governor has his way, according to news reports, in the future, the state employee would be paying 40% of a medical bill, and the state insurance, only 60%. I hope that is another Rauner idea that Rep. Poe will oppose.

  23. OW. He’s not my favorite cat. Hasn’t been for a while. Had a somewhat ‘disagreeable manner’ over the years. It cost him what he really wanted.

That being said. I’m very glad he’s doing better. I hope he continues to improve and gets completely on top of his health. A good sign that he’s back. I wish him a full recovery.

  24. ==Poe is one vote and has no real juice under the dome. I highly doubt he was ever figured in the 60 vote equation ==

His voice (and vote)on the Pension Committee mattered a lot in a time when the momentum of reform-without-thought said a public employee was a public enemy.

  25. The deal has already been cut after he gave up trying to get his son appointed to the seat. Gray Noll will replace him in the House when he moves along.

    Comment by 1776 Monday, Mar 2, 15 @ 2:51 pm

  26. Poe is very well liked and respected in his district and would stand up to any primary challenge, regardless of who might be backing the other candidate. He’s chosen to represent his constituents, including thousands of state workers, rather than listen to party line thinking.

I don’t know the guy, but everyone I know who knows him thinks very highly of him. Welcome back and stand tough!!

  27. Poe and Paul Simon are my two favorite illinois politicians

  28. Poe, you may have a “F…… problem” with Governor .01% you’re doing what’s right for your district. Well done.

  29. Poe has been sick so maybe he didn’t know that King Bruce is trading seats for lordships .

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Mar 2, 15 @ 3:32 pm

  30. Glad to see him back-don’t agree with him always, but feel that he represents his constituency well; primary challenge shouldn’t prove to hard to beat. And as has been pointed out- he should have a different outlook on life than others.

  33. wonder if he will lose his sweet concessions deal with the State Fair.

  34. If Poe wasn’t in Saputo’s back room that night, does Rauner have a one on one threat session? Maybe they just need a table against the wall.

  35. Anybody with a voice of reason, at this point, is more than welcome…as in welcome home Rep. Poe!!
