* If you saw the update below, you know that the governor’s office claims a handful of municipalities have passed Gov. Bruce Rauner’s draft “Turnaround Agenda” resolution, which includes the local “right to work zone” language…
The following towns have passed the resolution.
East Dundee
Clinton
Cambridge
Makanda

To be symmetrical, local communities should be able to exclude goods & services that are produced in places that have lower labor & environmental standards.
Of course, the capital class has already made this illegal through the World Trade Organization.

2010 census had Makanda’s population at a whopping 516. I’d be curious to know if the Makanda elected officials (trustees/aldermen/tribe leaders/whatever) actually read the “turnaround agenda”…

Rich…I get the dog and pony populist thing, but unless I don’t understand the process…resolutions really don’t mean a thing as at the end of the day the GA makes the final decision on issues such as these - correct?

Althoff, Tryon and JackSter must be so proud. How much of the slush fund do they get?
Let see that only took about $1 million in staff time and travel expense (no planes just rolling down the road) to get this huge leveraged victory.

So the Governor is touting as an “accomplishment” that he’s gotten a few towns to pass a resolution that doesn’t mean squat supporting something that has no chance of passing.
Setting the bar kind of low for “accomplishments” are we?

So if I’m a McHenry County Board member, I must be thinking either a)my seat is safe enough to withstand this vote, or b) I can sell it by telling upset constituents it’s never going to happen anyway, but we will be able to get more money from the State cause we made Rauner happy, so I had to do it.

I once had a job with a c4 organization where all I did was go from city to city, county to county, etc, and pass nondiscrimination ordinances. While it sounds like you’re making so much progress, it’s a little useless unless you’re at the state level. The real fight though is that it does begin to write a good narrative. “X cities have passed this ordinance, so should the state.”

This accomplishment is like dieting for two weeks and loosing 2 pounds when you are 200 lbs over weight. Its a joke that Muni’s are even voting on this. Waste-O-Time, never going to pass at the state level.

I used to stop often in various McHenry county businesses for gas, food, supplies and just about anything I needed when headed on vacation to camping trips or to visit friends in Wonder Lake, Richmond, Johnsburg, etc.
I’m just going to let my wallet be my voice. After I write some letters to the Editors of the NW Herald, Daily Herald and Woodstock Independent publicizing my disdain for the McHenry County Board’s vote, I will NEVER make anymore purchases within their boundaries.
The businesses in McHenry County can make their own ‘business climate’ improve without using my hard earned dollars.

It sure would be nice if the Gov and his staff concentrated on things that actually matter; like trying to to get an FY 16 budget passed in time for FY16.
The Gov’s office recommending that this ineffectual, irrelevant and illegal resolution be passed by munis and now bragging about a few of them actually passing it is Blago grandstanding at its best. Come on people! Get serious and start acting like grown ups!

Does anyone know whether this was the Village of Makanda or the Township? I live in the Township, but there has been no notice of this being on the agenda in any paper or other widely available source of info. I am sure there are many here who would oppose it, but most of us don’t pay a lot of attention to the local Village or Township actions.

Just looked at the Agenda for the Village of Makanda Trustee Meeting held on April 6. A resolution supporting Rauner’s “Turn Around Agenda”was on that agenda–so I am assuming it was the Village not the Township. Guess we need to pay closer attention to local politics.

After speaking with the Charleston mayor, the city did not endorse the entire Rauner package and actually rejected some of the items. The Governor’s Office failed to mention that….

Charleston did approve most of the agenda after waiving the normal two week public viewing period and passing it under the consent agenda, normally reserved for things like approving normal bills, granting raffle licenses, etc.

Um, with all due respect to our resident Commenter an really liked guy Willy, Y’all made a pretty big deal about the line in the sand drawn in Oswego. Some of the towns that have passed this meet the population numbers there. In fact, most of the places that the unions have filled the gallery seem to be smaller communities. Voting to Table isn’t a win nowadays, is it?

East Dundee passed the resolution in a special meeting. I was under the impression special meetings were for items that couldn’t wait for regular meetings. Am I wrong?
