Gov. Bruce Rauner is scaling back his legislative agenda, but only in terms of the number of bills in which it’s contained. He once said it would take six to eight bills to advance his so-called “turnaround agenda.” That’s now down to four pieces of legislation, but Rauner says that doesn’t mean he’s dropping any of his proposed reforms. “Right now we’ve got it in four buckets—pension reform, economic growth pro-job creation reform, government reform and ethics and conflict of interest reform,” Rauner said.
“We’ve got it in four buckets. We can divide those into eight bills, 10 bills, or three bills, it’s really a function of what the legislature prefers. The key is we get this legislation done now. It’s a four-month agenda, not just a four-year agenda. It’s right now. We need the votes taken this spring.”

Rauner has been touring the state promoting his “turnaround agenda.” He wants changes to workers’ compensation and civil liability laws, right-to-work zones for communities that choose them, changes to project labor agreements for public works projects, and limits on property tax increases.
Rauner said the various proposals have been drafted into legislation, but they are not yet ready to go before lawmakers for consideration.
“We will introduce those when the leaders say we should introduce them,” Rauner said. “I don’t know when that’s going to be.”

What a small number of initiatives for a new administration. And several of these are DOA in the GA. Odd for a man of such energy and after so many campaign speeches about change.

So who is running the show? Is anyone in charge? If the Governor doesn’t know, then does anyone? This is getting worse by the day.

Indy, in Illinois the bills have to be germane. You may want to talk to caucus staffers to make sure the four meet the requirements.

4 buckets full of money for the rich. Blah, Blah, Blah-Middle Class warfare at its finest. Yes reform is one thing we need, but WE also need Revenue Bruce. What about a graduated income tax bill to help “share the sacrifice”. So far the poor and middle class have done their fair share of sacrifice, time for Richy Rich and his wife to sacrifice a little bit too. Blaming You Bruce….

Theres a hole in my bucket, dear liza. I hope the superstars get some help from legislative staff and other knowledgeable folks, both on drafting and strategy.
Thus far the only thing rauner seems to be offering is a two-bit increase in the minimum wage. The budget is nowhere near balanced. You cant attempt to leverage budget restorations in exchange for substantive bills without a lot of new revenue. But there isnt enough revenue under the sun to make these ideas palatable to dems. The alternative is to use pain as the fulcrum. Spfld will be a colorful place w all the protesters in their matching tees.

Secret legislation? To be rammed through both chambers by the legislative leaders before the public has a chance to learn what, exactly, is in the bills? Could such a thing happen in Illinois?

The Washington Times had a list of states with serious out migration problems. Sadly, Illinois was listed prominently again.
My ancestors were among the many of thousands who relocated and settled in Illinois because it offered numerous advantages over their home states. I wish that were still true today.

I notice he doesnt have anything on closing corporate loopholes, removeing tax breaks or tax credits for the wealthy. He is drawing all the money from the middle class by cutting wages and wage rates, removing unions who fight for wages, and cutting aid to the poor and the needy. Turnaround seems to be code for padding the pockets of the wealthy by milking the money out of the middle class and the poor. How about a simple fair tax. No credits or deductions for those who make over 250k a year. Just pay the same tax rate without reductions. Fiscal problem solved

Economic reform (i.e. lower wages)
Government reform (i.e. everyone is corrupt but me)

Huh. Speaker Madigan told me that the deadline to pass a bill out of committee was a couple of weeks ago.
Why does the governor expect special rules and deadlines?
This is a man who strictly adheres to deadlines (budget address) when it means he has nothing to say…
But I guess he ignores deadlines when he’s forced to say something.
