  1. Just show Judy being Judy. It got him a 15 point lead in the first place.

    And thanks for the encouragement.

Comment by Snark Thursday, Oct 12, 06 @ 9:19 am

  2. Show the itenerary with Rezko, Blago, Levine and Cari (with indicted next to their names) going to Teeterboro Airport. Oops, wrong ad

Show Judy with Geroge Ryan, that’s clever and fresh or continue talking about AllKids and lying about not raising taxes. Avoid the issues, call them ludicrous and go back into hiding.

Comment by Wumpus Thursday, Oct 12, 06 @ 9:24 am

  3. Snarky, eh?

    “The Emporer’s Naked Truth!”

A naked Blago stands before a strategically placed podium and addresses the camera with all his sincerity.

“People have been criticizing me for several years, saying I’m not what I say I am, claiming I’m hiding something. Well, I stand before you today wearing no clothes to prove a point. When I came to Springfield, I said there would be a new way of doing business and that the old way of ‘Pay to Play’ business is over. I wasn’t hiding anything then and I’m not hiding anything now. And, to prove it, I will not wear any clothes for the remainder of the campaign. I challenge my opponent to show us the naked truth about her campaign too.”

  5. Does he need one? Just keep running the ones of JBT and GRyan. The details in this, are, to put in mildly, mind numbing.

It’s 3.5 weeks to the election. JBT doesn’t have the bucks, or simple hook to make this stick.

It’s not like he’s collecting gifts from the janitors……

  6. Tony Who…..? What was the question ……? ….Oh…well he really wasn’t a close family friend….what I meant to say was that I …..what was the question again….??

  9. This isn’t funny anymore. Stop the spinning.

Even pretending Blagojevich can get more votes than Topinka in 3.5 weeks shouldn’t matter anymore.

When one of the major gubernatorial candidate is exposed like this, we are all losers.

  10. RB: Citizens of Illinois. I want to address the actions of the person named in the recent Federal indictment. What you need to know is that Tony Rezko and I are not connected in any way. Never have, never will be. This is why.

You see, I was the one wearing a wire in the Governor’s office in order to help the Federal Government, which I have the highest regard for, catch this corrupt indiviual.

He was a hold over from the previous administration and a target of a Federal probe for many years. Unfortunately they were unable to obtain any evidence on him until I stepped up offered to and help.

THIS……. Is just another example of how my sweeping new Ethic Law’s have assisted in rooting out the few bad examples remaing from 26 years of Republican administrations.

Off camera. RB: Are you sure his name is Tony? I thought it was Dr. Phil.

New Indictements handed down…more public corruption in state government, more kickbacks, only now, its “pay to play on steriods”…

    …in the middle of it?…Republican power-broker Bill Cellini…(”Individual A” — show copy of indictment)

…who is Bill Cellini? The same Bill Cellini that State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka helped out with a sweetheart hotel deal to that cost the taxpayers millions (show headlines of old Topinka/Cellini stories)…

Judy Baar Topinka — same old corruption

  19. Many of you, the fine citizens of Bahrain may wonder why I have chosen to run for public office in your fine country. Contrary to published reports, it is not because I have fled indictment in the USA. I merely came to visit my friend, Mr. Rezco, who was erroneously charged with malfeasance, and fell in love with your country and decided to stay. Reports of my dating the daughter of the sheik are untrue-we are just close friends.

Comment by Garp Thursday, Oct 12, 06 @ 10:39 am

  20. “I appreciate the work Patrick Fitzgerald and his office have done to detect and prosecute corruption, including allegations of corruption against Tony Rezko.

“I pledged to change the culture of corruption in state government. In many ways my administration has made progress.

“I accept responsibility for the people I have appointed. That’s part of the job.”

“I also accept responsibility for not investigating allegations against Tony Rezko. Rezko was a close friend and I allowed our friendship to cloud my judgment. In hindsight, I should have asked more questions and asked them earlier in the process.

“This has been a learning experience for me. I should be more skeptical of people who I appoint to positions of authority.

“I pledge to do better in my next term, as I work to implement a Democratic agenda for Illinois.

“Whatever mistakes were made by Tony Rezko, it’s still important to improve education and health care while maintaining fiscal discipline.”

“That’s right, the Treasurer – someone who sounds like they might have something to do with this issue – sat idly by while it happened.

As Governor, Rod Blagojevich will put a stop to any ‘business as usual’ uncovered by the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Vote Rod Blagojevich, because 8 years of George Ryan’s corrupt reign is enough. It’s time for reform and renewal.”

  24. Bill’s B (10:24) comments are dead on and the reason that an indictment of a person such as Rezko will not affect the race or influence the issue of “ethics” between these two candidates. Cellini and his wife have much stronger and direct ties to both the Ryan and Edgar administrations — and Judy has attributable “blame” for the Springfield hotel write-off decision. There’s enough blame to go around for both candidates and both parties … and by the way, has anyone seen Patti B and the children in recent months since the State and DuQuoin fairs were over???

Bob Kjellander is the guy who had Rezko as a partner in a lobbying business that was making tons of money consulting on pension deals, not Blago.

  31. Curt - You’re right, “knowing” a criminal is different than “being” a criminal.

But putting a criminal in a position of high authority not only within your campaign but also within state government, where that criminal is not only asking people to contribute large sums of money to your campaign but has the power to direct massive state contracts, and is doing so not just for his own personal benefit but also for the benefit of your campaign — all of which you either must have known or had a legal, criminal responsibility to not turn a blind eye toward?

Well Curt, THAT is alot different than “knowing” a criminal. It’s called “criminal conspiracy.”

    RB:
I promised to end *pay-to-play* and the corrupt culture in Stringfeld. In less than three years, as I have eliminated or at least postponed payment of $18 billion of debt, in my spare time I have also ended the strain of corruption plaguing Chicago, our state’s capital. But as Mr. Fitzgerald said this is now *pay-to-play on steroids*. I need another four years to eliminate this latest mutated threat to our state government. Take advantage of early voting to give me another four years, and you will also avoid the potential mutated virus which may be implanted on voting machines across Illinois on November 7. By early voting, you can go back to ignoring all the campaign ads I’m buying with my warchest, which I will donate to charity as soon as each and every donor is indicted.

  36. Rezko’s face slowly morphs into Topink’a face, with somber, menacing music in the background as a voiceover describes:
“Indicted for kickbacks while working with Republican operatives…had enough?”

The ad closes with an earnest Blagojevich stating, “I promise to continue to uncover the culture of corruption I inherited from the Republicans.”

Paid for by Shameless for Governor.

  38. Rod and Judy are walking through a meadow and stop under a tree. Judy asks, “Rod, do you ever get that not so fresh feeling?” Rod says yes, Judy when I learn of corruption in state government. But I do what is necessary to get rid of it. And on election eve, the voters will decide to reelect me. And they will find you disposable.

An announcer states the following: “As State Treasurer, Judy Barr Topinka permitted wrongdoing to fester under the George Ryan administration. Now, her lack of financial oversight over State agencies permits corruption to reign rampant. . .resulting in criminal indictments.” Camera cuts to a three panel shot. Rod Blagojevich is standing next to his father-in-law, Alderman Dick Mell with his arm around him saying to the media and cameras: “When my father-in-law stated that I was awarding privileges and special political favors to those larger contributors to my campaign fund and were willing to “Pay-to-Play”, many of you mistakenly believed Alderman Mell. Alderman Dick Mell is here today to say a few words to all of you in order to remove this dark cloud that has been hanging over my reputation and integrity. Speak up Dick!”

Alderman Dick Mell: “Rod is a good son-in-law. Honest, he is. When I made those rash statements about his character in January of 2005, I was suffering from depression. I was also suffering from PMS. My wife accidentally put some psychedellic mushrooms in my dinner salad without realizing it. Please don’t sue me Rod. I take it all back. I’ll say anything that you want. Just leave Frank Schmidt and me alone. I can’t take it anymore.

Rod: “There you have it ladies & gentlemen. Simply a minor family misunderstanding. My family stands behind me and my re-election 110% as I am sure that you all knew. What was my father-in-law thinking? Now you know.”

Because as we all know, Blagojevich is very good at pretending like something happened….

  50. Rod, just kidding about the $5,000 - I’m voting for Judy. I must admit though that it was tempting to vote you in so Illinois could have the first Governor perp walked out of the Gov’s Office in the handcuffs and tailored orange suit. But then we would have Quinn - an unknown commodity. That would be scary ! Just put the $5,000 in your defense fund, buddy, I think you’ll be needing it real soon.

  53. Okay, I’ve got it! We start with a gossamer veiled video of G Ryan then as it sharpens it morphs into Blago and hundred dollar bills begin to swirl around him. Then the nose begins to grow as slowly the suit turns orange and a number card appears about chest high and a big clanking noise sounds as the bars slam shut - Bingo! We all win.

I have nothing to worry about” then Elvis applies Preparation H to……don’t get ahead of me here……his crows feet saying “I am the younger and better looking candidate”. Camera fades to black as Elvis collects $1,500 check from each manufacturer for daughters’ birthday/christening/college fund.

Then we see the Blago family having a good ole time in front of the Christmas tree in the Governor’s mansion.

Next the guv is seen praying at church.

Next we see the guv and his family celebrating an Easter egg roll on the White House lawn.

All the while, subliminal messages are running through the commercial, “re-elect Rod, re-elect Rod”

At the end, Mr. T finishes with, “I pity the fool that would question the righteousness of the Mother Theresa of Illinois”.

  57. Open with a shot of Rod in a field of daisies awash in sunshine. He stands with an angellic smile on his face, eyes closed, taking in the fragrance of a flower.

Suddenly, off-camera, a little girl screams and says “No, get away from me!” Rod opens his eyes in panic.

Cut to a shot of a Tony Rezko look-alike actor bending down towards a horrified Amy Blagojevich, extending a check in his hand toward her.

Rod suddenly bolts in slow motion through the field to save his daughter. The skies grow darker and more cloud-covered. Then, off-camera, you hear the voice of Patty Blagojeich say “Get away from me! I don’t want your real estate money!”

Cut to a shot of the Rezko-actor extending a contract toward a horrified Patty, smiling greedily. Rod enters the scene in slow motion, grabs Rezko by the shoulder and cold-cocks him. Then he kneels by his daughter and wife and gives them a big, tearful bear hug.

Words superimpose over the image: “Rod Blagojevich– A family man who’s there when you need him.”

    Cue to blurred passport photo…

Cut to Rod speaking earnestly to the camera:

  62. I’ve given the matter careful consideration and can see only one ABSOLUTELY fail-safe option for him to use to extricate himself.

The camera pans in on the Gov, sitting behind a massive desk and wearing a very somber expression; not a hair is out of place. He faces the camera, averts those weasel eyes, and speaks.

“My fellow citizens: In the last several days revelations about the ethics and conduct of certain persons in or associated with my administration have led to criminal indictments as well as widespread suspicion of my methods, vision and goals. Worst of all is the realization that, as a result of this situation, my re-election is no longer virtually guaranteed. I cannot be certain that the partisan lemmings I rely on will turn out in sufficient numbers to overcome the revulsion the rest of the state feels; I may be defeated. I cannot stand idly by and allow a tragedy of that magnitude to befall Illinois, and have determined that I must take action to avoid that disastrous eventuality. Accordingly, today I signed and issued an Executive Order disbanding the state legislature, outlawing the Republican Party and suspending elections until further notice. I will govern from now on without these encumbrances; a situation I’m certain you will come to be as pleased with as I already am. To ensure that you are not burdened by conflicting messages during this adjustment period, I am pleased to announce that Abby Ottenhoff has been placed in charge of all Illinois media outlets.

The state capitol is officially relocating to the former Chicago, which will be known as Blagojeville from now on. The universe is finally as it was intended to be.

Thank you, good night, and Rod Bless the State of Illinois.”

At the same time temptations are strong and some team members choose a different path than we agreed on. As we found corruption on the team, we are making changes. The kind of changes I promised when I first took this job. These a tough choices, but they must been done. We are working hard to make the strong Illinois I know you want and deserve.

I knew nothing about my good friend Tony’s involvement in this “pay to play on steroids” scheme. Nothing at all. I was busy with my hair, delegated some stuff to Tony, trusted him, and he betrayed me, but I knew nothing, absolutely nothing, because I follow the law, the L-A-W law in my office, so please believe me now when I grovel before you and emphatically protest that it was me, after all, who was uninformed. Asleep at the switch if you will.

And when the other indictments get handed down, that’ll be my excuse again. I should have paid more attention, but you believe me now, don’t you?

Raises hand as camera fades out…”I am not a criminal! I was merely napping. Not a criminal!”
