  1. That is the weakest apology ever, but atleast it isn’t a non-apology.

Comment by Juvenal Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:23 pm

  2. Pretty weak, for sure, and now you’ve got a bunch of people wondering what it was he said.

Comment by Deep South Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:25 pm

  3. Yes. Unless you want him to make a Cersei-like walk of atonement.

Forgive, but don’t forget. Take it out on him at election time if you will, but at some point you have to move on.

Its better than the usual qualified; ‘if my remarks offended anyone drivel.’

Comment by Tommydanger Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:26 pm

  4. Yes. What the heck else is he supposed to say? Direct. To the point. Directed towards all of us.
    Works!

    Comment by Anon2U Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:26 pm

  5. Sheeesh, at least it wasn’t the usual “if I offended anybody I guess I am sorry” apology from those on the left.

  6. ===Sheeesh, at least it wasn’t the usual “if I offended anybody I guess I am sorry” apology from those on the left.===

Aw, you must’ve missed the apology BEFORE this one. Please catch up.

    To the Post.

Much better, well done; short, to the point, Kirk owns it.

Will it linger, I dunno. This shuts down the non-apology apology stuff, and it really leaves it at an end. It’s about as good as it can get…

Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:30 pm

  7. See? That wasn’t so hard.

Comment by Tournaround Agenda Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:34 pm

  8. I hope the Kirk camp is already working up an apology for whatever comes out of his mouth next week.

    Comment by William j Kelly Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:34 pm

  9. ===Will it linger, I dunno. This shuts down the non-apology apology stuff, and it really leaves it at an end.===

I’m not really sure it does. The tone of the whole thing is similar between an exchange between a child and a parent and leaves one wondering “for what?”

I think the press release apology is a missed opportunity to change the topic or change the narrative or turn it into a positive press release. It signals both creativity on the part of his press folks and a lack of thought put into the statement.

Comment by Anon Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:35 pm

  10. It’s enough for now. It’s in writing. Now he can read it every time he’s asked about it in person.

She asked for it. He gave it to her. Now it’s back to the VA issues for her.

  11. @ anon 4:27 - “Sheeesh, at least it wasn’t the usual “if I offended anybody I guess I am sorry” apology from those on the left.”

Mark Kirk is not what most people consider to be “the left” and yet his PR person issued exactly that kind of non-apology last week.

Better luck slamming “the left” next time Sen. Kirk makes another gaffe that offends people.

Comment by Ghostbusters Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:35 pm

  12. Lame.

Comment by Anon Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:35 pm

  13. Pathetic. You can almost see the gun to his head.

Comment by Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:40 pm

  14. “I apologize to the people of Illinois for my inappropriate remarks last week. Calling any woman a ho is completely unacceptable. I made a rude and offensive joke and I am truly sorry for my carelessness.”

    That’s an apology…

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:40 pm

  15. What is he some kid?

Mom and Dad told me I gotta apologize, so I apologize to the people of Illinois. Okay? Dang. Just let me be.

Comment by Macbeth Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:41 pm

  16. It’s enough, what’s left to say? But, this stayed alive much longer than it needed; Kirk blew it by not recanting immediately.

Comment by Wensicia Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:41 pm

  17. I… guess?

    Comment by Rockford's Finest Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:43 pm

  18. Yes. Enough. Good God.

Comment by Politix Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:47 pm

  19. =That’s an apology…= Never knew there was a minimum standard for apology issuance. My bad. (oops, is that an apology?)

Comment by Bogey Golfer Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:50 pm

  20. CommandoMakeIt should have stayed in the bunker and hoped the Hawks and TeamBungle underwhelming TV gambit might distract
Instead TeamBungle needs to use their GOP State Party prop to clean up the SchockHastertKirk debacle. Wow talk about bad timin’

Comment by Anonin' Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:51 pm

  21. “I apologize to the people of Illinois for my inappropriate remarks last week.”

“I would also like to take this time to apologize for my inappropriate remarks next week — and for several inappropriate remarks that I will undoubtedly make over the 4th of July holiday.”

  22. Three elements to an apology. Admitting you did something. Showing you understand why what you did was wrong. Sincerely offering an apologetic statement.

Yep, sure glad it wasn’t ANYTHING like that…..

“Senator Kirk was joking with his colleague and immediately apologized to anyone offended by his remark,” spokeswoman Danielle Varallo said in an email to The Associated Press.”

  24. Oops, missed typing the line where I said “this ‘apology’ falls short of that”.

Comment by ChelseaBlue Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 4:57 pm

  25. As a woman (and non-ho), I would like to hear what he’s sorry about….Just sayin’

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 5:00 pm

  26. I like how it’s general. They can just reuse it next time without slowing down for tweaks or approval.

Staffer: “He said WHAT? OK. I’ll go ahead and issue The Apology Statement.”

He already tried playing that card and it didn’t work.

  29. No one would like to move on to the next stupid remark more than me.

But “inappropriate” means “improper GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES.”

As in “He wore inappropriate attire to the ball.”

And I am not sure under what circumstances senator Kirk thinks those remarks are appropriate. Although I get the sense the answer is “whenever I am not on microphone.”

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 5:09 pm

  30. “I apologize to my Illinois constituents for remarks I made last week that were demeaning to women and also to the people who live in the south side of Chicago.”

Comment by Enviro Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 5:24 pm

  31. All right, already — let’s move on and go Westward Ho!

  33. Now it will be up to the “press shop” to improve what is left of his image

Comment by regular democrat Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 6:13 pm

  34. Is he limiting all apologies to something that can be reduced to a hashtag? #hotmic #oops #mybad

Comment by The Muse Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 6:23 pm

  35. enough? we shall see.

Comment by Amalia Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 6:39 pm

  36. Let’s just keep kicking him now that he’s down. It’s the Democrat Way.

Comment by Anonymous Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 7:44 pm

  37. Sorry, bro…no go.

Comment by Fantasma Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 8:51 pm

  39. Gee, I don’t know. Maybe he should make the apology a little shorter.

Comment by LBJ Monday, Jun 15, 15 @ 9:09 pm

  40. Enough already. He apologized. Mark Kirk knew he made an unintentionally offensive comment which he needed to put a cork in it and move on. And this is what he did.
