That’s gonna make a heckuva mailer

Posted in:

Alderman Burt Natarus continues behaving like a man who either doesn’t realize that he’s headed for the toughest re-election fight of his life or doesn’t care.

“Downtown, we have more dogs than people. Everybody’s got to have a dog. You know why? They’re lonely. The young women don’t have kids yet. They’re not married. So, they have a dog as a child. And some of the fellas who don’t want to get married — they want to have kids around, so they have a dog. That’s a substitute,” [Naturus] said.

It’s always the politically smart thing to insult your constituents. Not.

  1. Enough is enough. I was lukewarm on my owners’ chances before but I will now marshall the barking forces against the Strom Thurmond of the 42nd Ward. All dogs go to heaven, but Burt Natarus, we’ll see you in hell!

  2. The strange thing about the quote was the context. He made the comments while African-American alderman were questioning Cline about abusive practices. Natarus demanded that Cline start ticketing dog owners that do not clean up after their pets.

The City has real issues with crime and to some degree with the conduct of certain police officers. That is not what is important to Natarus. Natarus wants Cline to focus on dog cleanup.

As I noted over at Skeeter’s Growl, the 42nd Ward has a real alternative in Brendan Reilly. Unlike Republican Gordon, Reilly is running a real campaign and has actually raised some money. And then we have Gordon, the GOP 42nd Ward Committeeman who, in the richest ward in the City, is unable to raise money from Republicans.

  3. The Loop and the South Loop are both getting new Aldermen. Natarus and Haithcock are both insane. These areas are the most significant in Chicago and are being lead by lunatics. The new residents are finally getting wise.

  4. It will certainly be interesting to watch the 42nd Ward Aldermanic race. I suspect it will be like watching a train wreck in progress. Say good-bye Burt!

  5. I hope people take the time to read Brendan Reilly’s web site. He is not in my district and I am sad I cna’t vote for him. I think he would be a fresh face, and great person to represent the 42nd. Brendan has a lot of fans and support on top of his great upbringing and ideas.

  6. It’s kind of Natarus to do his part to try and hand the race to Reilly. I think Reilly probably could have about a dozen mailers just from stupid Natarus quotes in the past year. Burt truly seems to be losing his mind. This will be a fun race to watch.

  7. The World According to Burt:

    1. Women are too docile to be traffic cops.
    2. Black people are too incompent to work at the post office.
    3. Asians are superior at math and science because of the abacus.
    4. Women who don’t have children feel unfulfilled.
    5. The “Fellas” are pooping up my neighborhood.
    6. That dog is eyeing my hamburger.

  8. “Quoteable” - based on your comments, you’ll be heartened to know that Natarus is working extra hard to hand this race to Reilly.

In addition to his ridiculous, weekly gaffes in the newspapers, Burt has launched his own 30-minute cable program (hosted by one of his city secretaries). It’s a great new opportunity for 42nd Ward residents (bored enough to watch CAN-TV) to see just how crazy their alderman is in a “live” (taped) format.

It’s definitely worth a few chuckles - complete with longwinded rants about how Chicago was in the old days, before Michigan Avenue existed and when congestion was caused by horse-drawn buggies. Not kidding - he really said that.

  9. In the immortal words of Red Forman, “What A Dumbass!” Brendan, save us “lonely” dog-owning voters!!!

  10. Not too mention his $140,000 “loan” from convicted felon Mickey Segal and the hinky deal that he was involved in with Stuart Levine that the Feds should be currently investigating. October 27th (Levine’s plea date) may also be bad for BN.

  11. Brendan is the ONLY choice. He is smart, hardworking, has loads of integrity and will out–work, out-smart and out-campaign Burt Natarus. He won’t know what hit him. Natarus has to go - he has lost his mind.

  12. Barton is simply off the meds…and has been for years.

Cut him some slack. He just doesn’t understand women. Or blacks. Or latinos. Or Asians. Or dogs. Or…well, you get the picture.

    Foie gras be damned!

  13. I’m telling you, he’s chanelling my crazy polish grandmother. I’ve noticed it over and over — babka janikowska, why are you so angry with us?
