  1. Ain’t it amazing how many Yellow Dog Democrats have been created by the GOP over the last 8 years?

  2. You know, if you want to have a Hell house how about a little bit of Dante? Because frankly I don’t think you can beat the original vision of Hell.

And I’m sure this bit will be controversial:

“A fenced-in cell housed a few denizens of “hell,” including a pedophile trolling the Internet for a young victim, a meditating Buddhist, and two mincing young men wearing body glitter who were supposed to be homosexuals.”

I know Meeks politics and his religious expression aren’t the same, but I don’t think I could vote for him now for any office.

  3. A meditating Buddhist depicted in Meeks’ house of hades? What, no Muslims or maybe a Hindu or two? I would really like to see what scripture Meeks could show, which would back that up.
That type of teaching philosophy scares me most of all.

  4. Isn’t Meeks supporting Todd Stroger? Does this mean that Stroger is anti-choice and anti-gay? Will Todd Stroger repudiate Meeks and this exhibit before the election?

  5. Hickey’s House of Hell

  6. I’m with Cermak Rd and Walking Wounded: my opinion of Meeks is now forever tainted by his sponsorship of a “Hell House.”

  7. Sigh. The breast cancer treatment program is nice but it doesn’t begin to address the problem. For one thing, far more women are at risk of heart disease than of breast cancer. Does Blago have a free program for them?

The problem is that 1.8 million adults in the
state are uninsured. Most can’t afford insurance or have pre-existing conditions which make it
prohibitively expensive to get it. All these little piecemeal programs like Allkids and this breast cancer program simply show the inadequacy of Blago’s health care policy implmentation.
The (our) money is there for guaranteed health insurance in Illinois, especially if the corruption tax we pay to state contractors were not so high and gross waste and ineptitude in the state bureaucracy were addressed.

  8. Meeks is still a moron. Will that $7 inclcude a lotto ticket to fund schools?

Comment by Wumpus the Free Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 9:07 am

  9. Walking Wounded,

I think Meeks would appeal to John 14:6.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.”

    From the Douay-Rheims Bible http://www.drbo.org/chapter/50014.htm

Of course, if you read the whole chapter, it’s clear that it can be interpreted in a myriad of ways.

  10. Picolo, please. If David Duke said he was supporting Blagojevich, don’t you think the Governor would repudiate him and everything he stands for? Get back to your County job, Picolo.

  11. Both Neil Steinberg and Lester Munson on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight last night said that this race is really between JBT and Pat Quinn!

  12. Hey Picolo,

Just ask Geroge Ryan’s Treasurer how supporting a candidate in previous elections automatically makes you in line with their beliefs. And geez lighten up a little will ya!

  14. As she skittishly made her way through the hell house, Sydney Foulks, 11, had a vice grip on her father’s hand. “I thought it was very scary and I know I’m never sleeping with nobody until I get married,” Sydney said as she exited.

“I thought it was phenomenal,” said her father, Kevin Foulks. “This gives you a glimpse of what you’re going to do forever if you don’t confess your sins and give your life to Christ.”

Now I hope Mr. Foulks will also teach his daughter the importance of proper grammar.

  15. But how do you make scary examples of double negatives, dangling participles, run-on sentences, improper sentence form, incorrect conjugation of verbs, and the ever popular disagreement of pronoun with antecedent?

    Comment by cermak_rd Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 1:02 pm

  16. Irregardless.

Comment by Pat Hickey Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 1:08 pm

  17. Meeks is no longer a serious candidate for higher office.

Comment by Chicago Dem Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 1:36 pm

  18. cermak_rd,
It wasn’t my intention to get into a philisophical/religious discussion, but to counter:
Matthew 7:1, “Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you, for God will judge you in the same way as you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rules you apply to others.”
People could look up bible verses all day on this issue and feel they are right in whatever point they wish to make. My opinion is that Meeks’ Hades house appears to teach not only a narrow moral view, but leans towards intolerance, and dare I say, bigotry?
(–noun, plural -ries. 1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own)
We are in agreement, though, that I wouldn’t vote for Meeks for any office.

Comment by Walking Wounded Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 1:39 pm

  19. And Blago has given Meek’s church faith-based dollars for, among other things, HIV prevention.

Typical of Blago - pandering for votes is priority #1, anything substanative is a distant #2 …

  20. Walking Wounded,

Oh, I agree with your take on it. I was simply trying to explain where he was coming from.

  21. As far I can tell, John Stroger has not resigned his post as Democratic Committeeman of the 8th Ward (why he hasn’t done so, I couldn’t begin to explain). But I suspect he may be real sick for him not to be able to vote for his son.

As for Meeks, what should you expect from someone foolish enough to believe Gov. Sleazy at face value (you know, the promise to more fully fund education in exchange for Meeks not running for Governor)?

Comment by fedup dem Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 2:49 pm

  22. Meeks could have taken the higher road. He could have portrayed the real behind the scenes hades of IDOT, DHS and other state workers breaking their backs to the whips and chains of their inept appointed interns, er, managers. Satan:
“No raises for merit comp employees! Take that!!”
    *whip cracking*

Comment by Walking Wounded Tuesday, Oct 31, 06 @ 5:38 pm

  23. The governor announced today that he’s giving $1 million to the Illinois Holocaust museum (which is no doubt in Chicago) That just about covers all his bases in money to guarantee their vote. However, the school he bumped up the money ladder has yet to see dime one. Promises, promises, lies, lies.
