Lt. Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti made it her goal at the beginning of the Administration to visit all 102 counties in her first year in office. Her stop at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City last week completed that mission.
Below is the lieutenant governor’s statement on visiting all 102 counties.
“Last week, I accomplished my goal of meeting with residents in every one of our 102 counties in Illinois,” Sanguinetti said. “Along the way I’ve met with small business owners, farmers, elected officials, students, educators, entrepreneurs, labor leaders, healthcare professionals, waterway operators, coal miners, veterans… and an endless number of Illinois residents who are ready for real reform in Illinois.”
“The most important job of an elected official is to listen. As the governor’s partner, it was important that I connect with as many Illinoisans as possible in the first year of this Administration,” Sanguinetti said. “Meeting with residents in their own communities helps me to better serve them by learning firsthand what issues are most important throughout our diverse state.”
The lieutenant governor’s responsibilities as Chair of the Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force, Chair of the Governor’s Rural Affairs Council, Chair of the Interagency Military Base Support and Economic Development Committee, and Chair of the Illinois River Coordinating Council, the Mississippi River Coordinating Council, and the Wabash and Ohio Rivers Coordinating Council allows her to lead the charge in advocating for an important, diverse and geographically spread-out set of interests. The Lt. Governor’s outreach to all 102 counties insured the priorities of each committee, council and task force she chairs are driven by local priorities.

What exactly did she learn? I am sure someone, in all of those counties, had to have a coherent opinion about something other than telling the Governor to keep on keeping on. Ya think?

Wow, good for her. I’d like to do that some time. Drive across the state, visiting each county, seeing the various landmarks like old court houses, and churches and farms and historic sites. Meeting people from all walks of life. And getting paid $177,000 grand, plus a car and driver and expenses. That’s a sweet 11 month vacation.
Now, maybe the Governor can find some productive work for her.

No offense to her, but the office is as make-work as a Crook County exempt position.

I was able to attend one of those events. Say what you will, but of all the politicians I have interacted with, she seemed more genuine than most. Seems a little harsh to downplay the value of listening. While I am sure her input is not going to hold all that much sway with the Gov, at least she held a conversation with us. Sure, it was partly political, but it felt more like a genuine conversation than it usually does with a politician.

Where is the “OTTOWA” in LaSalle County that she visited in March? It is supposed to be near the Starved Rock Dam. The closest town to the dam is Utica. About 7 miles east of the dam is a town called “Ottawa”.
Is “OTTOWA” a mythical town that rises up out of the mists every 100 years like Brigadoon?

Speaking of which, who signed off on a LG quote where she names “everybody working in my neighborhood”?
Sanguinetti sounds “fascinated” at seeing… “small business owners, farmers, elected officials, students, educators, entrepreneurs, labor leaders, healthcare professionals, waterway operators, coal miners, veterans…”
Goodness gracious they make her sound lIke someone new to socitatal walks of life!

I’ve met her at one of those meetings as well, and would agree with Shemp that she really is a nice person, articulate and personable…but then she read a canned speech where I wanted to gouge my eyes out - that really deflated her. In some Springfield neighborhoods, the colloquial would go something like this, “She don’t do bureaucrat to well…”

Have met her professionally. She has no perspective on downstate issues. She mentioned she was a fan of farms. Immensely underwhelming and she appeared totally disinterested. She should have read the job description before deciding to join the ticket.

I witnessed a Lt. Governor judge a bubblegum blowing contest at the State Fair in the morning with maybe 10 people there. Walking 102 counties, by comparison, is high achievement

How about she does another lap and this time visits all the non-profits, hospitals, nursing homes, low-income working parents, senior services, meals-on-wheels, etc. organizations that have been adversely affected by the lack of a budget. She can then explain what REAL short-term pain is to Bruce and how it is NOT justified by supposed long-term gain.

And for your information, Lt. Gov, if you have been to all 102 counties in Illinois, I do intend to check with contacts, and reliable sources, that I have in the 5 counties surrounding the one where I reside - and to my knowledge you have not made an appearance in my county.
Sorry, but if Slip and Sue is ever going to come to my county here in Southern ILL I would make it a point to miss her appearance, even if I were notified of “where and when”.
Are these trips being paid for by the Rauner SuperPacs or are her travel expenses being paid for by her budget as Lt. Gov.?
Guess if she does come to my County, with some advance notice, I might attend, but with a very pointed bias - yet many of my Republican friends will be equally as suspect of the timing and the tone of the “visit”. Many local R’s will not be happy to see her, even if she can find a venue to speak in front of!

I do stand corrected, and will call myself out. Our Lt Gov did apparently have a meeting with the BoD of one of our local hospitals recently, but nothing was reported - simply got this from her reported public schedule.
I apologize for having missed this momentous visit, but nothing was reported prior to or after her meeting. I am fairly certain it was likely a closed meeting and not open to the public. Yet I could be wrong. The hospital is only supported by taxes from 5 townships in the county.
