One Rush down, one Rush to go?

Posted in:

* Subscribers were tipped that these petitions were probably bad enough to get him kicked. So he apparently dropped out instead. Tribune

Flynn Rush, the son of U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, withdrew as a candidate Tuesday in challenging state Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie for the March 15 Democratic nomination on Chicago’s South Side.

Currie, who has served in the legislature since 1979, is the House majority leader, the top deputy role for veteran Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Flynn Rush’s bid to get on the ballot already had faced a candidacy petition challenge. The State Board of Elections said Flynn Rush withdrew his candidacy on Tuesday afternoon.

The candidacy petitions of Bobby Rush also are facing an intensive challenge from Ald. Howard Brookins, 21st, one of three Democrats challenging the veteran congressman.

  1. Bobby Rush is begging for his political life right now, because mercy is his only hope.

Bobby: don’t take it personal, it’s just business.

Inexplicable. All the people Rush has put on the payroll all these years and he couldn’t count on any of them to gather a few hundred valid signatures?

  8. Anyone who lives in Bobby Rush’s district and has tried to interact with his office is not surprised by their petition problems. Rush and his staff have been mailing it in for years. Their constituent service operation is virtually nonexistent and the mayors and aldermen in the district can’t get their phone calls returned. If you’re lousy at running your office, odds are your political operation is going to be in shambles as well.

  12. I’m sorry to see Flynn Rush go, Barbara Flynn Currie is DOING NOTHING for anyone who doesn’t live in Hyde Park. All Flynn needed was a good team backing him and a healthy donation.

  13. ===All Flynn needed was a good team backing him and a healthy donation.===

All Flynn needed was to actually file petitions that weren’t so egregious that even holding them up to challenge isn’t possible.

Other than that, it’s just noise. Sorry.

  14. For 1500 good names in the period allowed, he could have gotten them himself, with some sustained personal effort.

Both appear to have “dropped out” before petition submission.

  17. So you think a niche consulting business that does vehicle mileage and petition signatures could make some money off the Illinois congressional delegation?

Oh, you think we are too expensive? Ask your buddies Aaron and Bobby if we’re worth the money.

  18. =All the people Rush has put on the payroll all these years and he couldn’t count on any of them to gather a few hundred valid signatures?=

Word, I am starting to think that this might all be orchestrated by Rush to leave Congress, hand the post to Howard Brookins, while acting as if he was taken out “by the man”.

Retiring would have been too simple for a former Black Panther. He’s gotta look like he went out fighting.

  19. ===I am starting to think===

Apparently the operative word in your sentence is “starting.”

Don’t post stuff like that until you’ve taken the training wheels off your brain. Rush just wanted to hand it off? Hilarious.
