Poll: Noland leading, but 50 percent undecided

Posted in:

* The Politico story was a bit confusing and Public Policy Polling hasn’t yet released its numbers, but here’s the breakdown of its latest poll in the 8th Congressional District Democratic primary to replace Tammy Duckworth…

* State Sen. Michael Noland: 22 percent

* Raja Krishnamoorthi: 17 percent

* Villa Park Mayor Deb Bullwinke: 11 percent

* Undecided: 50 percent

Still a wide open race with a slight Noland edge. Raja needs to start spending more of that money.

  1. If those were my choices, I’d vote for Undecided too.

  2. Wow, Raj has sent five mailers, the others zero and he is only at 17%.

Comment by burbanite Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 1:50 pm

  3. I’ve seen Raja’s FB page and every photo he posts is of him with Indian-American supporters. Nothing wrong with that, except they probably aren’t a majority (or pluralty) of voters in this primary. I’m sure he’s doing more outreach to all sorts of voters, but it doesn’t show up on FB so it makes me wonder.

  4. Agreed that the story was a bit confusing, Rich. Not clear when the poll was taken and weird that no margin of error or sample size was mentioned in the story.

Comment by Former City Dweller Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 1:57 pm

  5. Come endorsement time, Raja has the name recognition and the money to get people to knock on doors.

  6. I like those numbers if I’m raja, assuming I’m going to spend my money to drive up name ID soon.

Comment by AlabamaShake Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:02 pm

  7. Looks like poll was taken before Raja mailer/phone call blitz. Haven’t heard any updates from Noland camp on GOTV: no social media calls, not many signs, and likely primary voters have been contact. #NoShowNoland

    Comment by IL08 Voter Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:06 pm

  8. Noland has been a State Senator for a years so no surprising at all. Out of the three, only Raja can grab the majority of undecided.

    Comment by Betty K Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:08 pm

  9. Noland slowed down, especially after a no-show at the Tribune endorsement. If he doesn’t have a majority now - what’s his roadmap to 34?

Comment by Elgin Gal Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:16 pm

  10. Now it’s a race to 30%. We’ll see who gets there first. That will mean a little more.

    Comment by A guy Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:26 pm

  11. So there is the poll that shows Raja winning. Oh wait.
Let’s see the crosstabs, taken a couple weeks ago or whatever no one has yet to show any poll that has Raja winning.
This looks to be a fun last 4 weeks in the 8th. Raja better start throwing some big $$ haymaker mail pieces soon.

Comment by DuPage Bard Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:52 pm

  12. Honestly Raja has been running for 6 years and only registers at 17%. If I am emily’s why not drop a little money and might be able to get this done.

Comment by ABR Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:59 pm

  13. It will be hard for Raja to do that outreach if he keeps burning through staff and volunteers fed up with his management style.

Comment by Anonish Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 2:59 pm

  14. =Honestly Raja has been running for 6 years and only registers at 17%=

What do you mean running? Noland been State Senator for years and can’t close the deal. Get your facts straight.

  15. =It will be hard for Raja to do that outreach if he keeps burning through staff and volunteers fed up with his management style=

One of the biggest complaints among IL Senate Democrats is the multiple Noland phone calls fishing for anybody. I think he barely has full-time FOs in a large district.

Comment by IL Senate Demmer Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 3:22 pm

  16. So Tammy Duckworth has been around for 6 years and you expect an outsider to poll better than a State Senator? Doesn’t make sense man - leave your political analysis at the front door.

Comment by BCR to ABR Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 3:24 pm

  17. So much of the Noland Camp commentary is wrong

    Tribune endorsement: no show
Chi Fed of Labor endorsement: nothing
Progressive Endorsement: none, Schakowsky went for Raja

    His star endorsement: Quinn…

Yes Quinn, who’s polling lower than Bullwinkel

    Comment by Real IL08 Voter Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 3:25 pm

  18. I’ve been watching this race for months - Raja has mailers and phone calls blanketing the district. What’s the others expect to do? Deb’s in the red and Noland has no full-time staffers.

Comment by Joe Tracker Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 3:29 pm

  19. 2 more Raja mailers hit today.

Comment by burbanite Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 6:57 pm

  20. The race is wide open with Raja poised to take it all - Daily Herald just endorsed him. #NoShowNoland

Comment by Daily Heralder Tuesday, Feb 9, 16 @ 8:06 pm

  21. It’s time to stop calling Raja the frontrunner–he’s behind in every poll! Raja, not Noland, is the only one who’s run in this whole district before (and statewide). He’s spent millions campaigning. He should have the name rec. He should have the uspport. Where is it?

Comment by fromtheburbs Wednesday, Feb 10, 16 @ 10:50 am

  22. What millions? Please list all the the core campaign activities Noland had done?

    Where are the mailers?
    Where are the endorsements?
    Where are the events?

    #NoShowNoland

    Comment by Da Real IL08er Wednesday, Feb 10, 16 @ 5:54 pm

  23. NO significant endorsements
    NO money
    NO active campaign staff
    NO social media activity
NO appearance at Tribune endorsement session
    NO Daily Herald endorsement
    NO successful GOTV strategy
    NO show Noland

    Comment by #NoShowNoland Wednesday, Feb 10, 16 @ 8:57 pm

  24. No show Noland has a poll showing he’s winning. Does Raja?
    NO poll Raja
For all Raja’s positives he should have already won. But he’s down, prove I’m wrong, show a poll that he is winning….you can’t!

Comment by DuPage Bard Wednesday, Feb 10, 16 @ 10:30 pm

  25. One poll and Nolabd is winning? You need to close the gap on the undecideds and Noland is no where to be found. Noland doesn’t have the man-power/strategy to main his lead. Weak numbers who no plan to protect it.

Show me the strategy and we’ll talk

Comment by Kane County Kyle Wednesday, Feb 10, 16 @ 11:10 pm

  26. Literally, where is she? What does she expect with this race?

    Comment by Where's Deb? Thursday, Feb 11, 16 @ 9:53 am

  27. I was looking forward to Deb’s campaign but wow - what a disappointment.
