Politicians behaving badly

Posted in:

* Things appear to be getting rough out there…

In 3rd Ward: Ken Dunkin's goons used knives to cut his name from this billboard truck & threatened the driver's life pic.twitter.com/qoZkIG6Cay

…Adding… A police report has been filed, according to Ald. Reilly.

This is the original billboard…

* Meanwhile, we discussed this yesterday

“If donating a book constitutes voter fraud, then the Senator is guilty of the same thing for handing out tax rebates at the polling place,” responded Cardenas campaign manager and 15th Ward Ald. Raymond Lopez. “I don’t think of what he’s alleging as voter fraud.”

Lopez’ comments referred to a flyer distributed by Muñoz’ 12th Ward Democratic Organization promoting a property tax rebate seminar scheduled for this Saturday at the McKinley Park Field House, the same location as the 12th Ward’s early voting polls.

* And then I posted this from Tom Shaer, Deputy Assessor for Communications at the Cook County Assessor’s Office…

This seminar is one of over 125 standard Taxpayer Outreach events which the Cook County Assessor’s Office annually does for many community organizations and elected officials in all townships.

All aspects of property valuation, assessment, the appeal process and exemptions will be covered. No ‘rebates’ are being offered and qualifications for all exemptions are subject to State of Illinois statutes governing such exemptions.

* Late yesterday, Ald. Ray Lopez sent me an e-mail…

Does this look like a typical flyer for a “standard Taxpayer Outreach event” to you?

The flier…

  1. I’m thinking the folks who did this were not impressed with his new ads.

  4. It’s the Wild West in City politics. These are some ultra tough turf battles. Having the Governor and Proft getting involved in City fights has taken this to a whole new level. There were always shenanigans but this is going to end very badly soon.
To all the young folks looking to get involved in politics, these are not the races you want to be involved in. This is a dangerous game being played. Anyone see Gangs of New York?

  5. “A police report has been filed, according to Ald. Reilly.”

I can’t speak for the rest of the class, but I’d be interested in seeing a copy of that police report.

  6. Video clips I’ve seen of Dunkin’s crew in action led me, long ago, to believe these guys aren’t door-to-door canvassing, hi-how-ya doin’, oh-what a cute baby types.

  7. hahaha shenanigans indeed

  8. Cardenas is a ghost alderman and Lopez is a puppet. Munoz has shown time and again he is the leader on the southside. He cares about veterans’ concerns; Is trying to deliver city services cardenas has neglected and is genuinely a good guy. Cardenas wants to keep his family employed at soon-to-be-defunct uno by threatening current employees of charter schools. He needs to go.

  9. I really hope the coppers can come up with video surveillance cameras that will identify those responsible. If so, Dunkin will need another million bucks to pull this one out.

  11. ==…Dunkin will need another million bucks to pull this one out.==

This is what I’m sayin’. All the $$$ spent on those ads painting him as a good guy and these goons just proved the opposite.

  12. …probably Aggravated Assault too, if threat was made with a knife involved.

I’m hearing the allegation is that the truck driver grabbed one of the guys who cut the billboard and another pulled a gun and told the driver to let the guy go “or else.”

So does this get them like a whole carton of cigarettes from the Dunkin campaign? 2 sandwiches? Surely having to pull your gun out merits extra, right? C’mon Maze, inquiring minds want to know!
