* Back in early February, Rep. Jaime Andrade (D-Chicago) began attacking his Democratic primary opponent for being a Bruce Rauner plant…
* Harish Patel was not amused…
Some portion of these claims appear to be based on one contribution Patel received from one donor who also had contributed to Rauner. That individual has also contributed to President Barack Obama and Senator Dick Durbin’s campaigns. “Those who use this one contribution to suggest I am in any way tied to the Governor are knowingly and purposefully trying to mislead the voters,” said Patel. The identity of the “secretive group” the mailers claim Patel is connected with remains unknown.
Patel has received support from hundreds of grassroots small donors, including donors who have also given to people like State Rep. Will Guzzardi (D-39th), members of the Chicago City Council Progressive Caucus, Chuy Garcia and more.
“Sadly, some old-school machine political operatives believe that the best way to win elections is to resort to these untrue attacks. I think it is important to set the record straight, especially when the attacks are totally irresponsible,” said Patel. “I have always been and will continue to be a relentless voice against Gov. Rauner’s failed policy agenda that has done nothing but harm working families and communities. The voters don’t just deserve independent progressive leadership, they deserve honesty.”
But the hits have kept coming and Patel hasn’t raised all that much money, so he can’t effectively respond.

@shylobisnett I just don't wanna vote for some new guy then find out he and Rauner are simpatico (which is basically Andrade's accusation).

That’s the rub, the unintended consequences within Democratic circles. If there is a wiff, a hint, a shred of refracted light, that a Democratic candidate has a (single) tie to a Raunerite residue, “vote acvordingly”.
This meme works under that premise…
Remo Gaggi, “Look… why take a chance? At least, that’s the way I feel about it.”
Sadly, lots of possible growth will be lost by Democrats… “Because… Rauner”… and it may be like that for a long time.
See, and Democrats thought that Raunerite Ideal was something Republicans should worry about.
Rauner is infesting your party with fear, and also infesting your party with worries of who may be around the corner.
Can’t grow if you can’t trust. Education to the Raunerites is the only cure.

Which is what political campaigns do. You’d think Patel would know that by now.
Also, yesterday I was quoting Remo Gaggi who was referring to Andy Stone. I’m pretty sure Rich understood the reference, but I wanted to clarify for others that I don’t believe Patel is a Raunerite.
On the other hand, I am certain Andrade isn’t a Raunerite and never will be.

If this is the standard by which all D candidates are judged…There is a lot of “friend of a friend of a friend of Rauner’s” money out there, much less the overt IllinoisGO funding. Even Ivory soap is only 99 and 44/100th percent pure.

I’m guessing Rauner is just very unpopular among Democratic primary voters. Hence, Patel’s objections to being tied to him in the flyer.
