Guns are a big deal throughout this district and candidates alway try to prove who is the most gun friendly and pro 2nd amendment. Not saying it is right or wrong but just a fact in central Illinois. This will appeal to a certain segment believe it or not. I’ve seen a couple signs in yards for this guy.

@Tough Guy- I live in central Illinois, I have my CCL, I hunt extensively and own a number of hand guns and long guns.

He looks like a fool to me. I don’t need to be pandered to on “emotional” issues, maybe that is the difference.

It is a really bad slogan.
If your name ends in the word “sand”, and you want voters to remember that - you don’t start by telling them that you believe Congress should get out of it.

Don’t get trapped in the Vandersand!

Then the photo - half his face is covered? Unless you are robbing a Western Union bank rail car on a horse, you uncover your face!

The image doesn’t work because it doesn’t show anything other than aggression. You can support the Second Amendment, and favor gun safety - right?

A smile, a pair of ear protectors, wearing amber protective eyewear, and looking like you are having fun target practicing would have been a far better photo. Posing with your kids unarmed, at a target range wearing target practice gear would have gotten the point across too.

The emotions this photo evoke don’t help a candidate. While it is an emotional one, a campaign flier should be evoking a positive emotion, not this.

Really bad all around.

It does say he graduated from high school in 1997 and from college in 2002.

Surely this “Pro 2nd Amendment” proponent of “Strong National Defense” and “Secure Borders” rushed to his nearest recruiter after 911, right?

I mean, no one would make big talk about national defense and strike tough-guy poses his gun if he’d passed on his opportunity to wear the uniform and take up arms when our nation was attacked, right?

Right?

I have a bunch of red meat, tea bag party platitudes on a post card, not sure what they all mean. I’m holding a gun that I don’t know how to shoot. I’ve got an awkward saying that some how meshes with my last name.

Vote for me because I want a ghost payroll job that nobody can arrest me for when I don’t show up for work. I will say I was on a fact finding trip to the Bahamas or was in the district helping constituents.

I am a good guy. So vote for me, I deserve it.

I am retired US Army, firearm owner/collector, CCW holder and ardent supporter of common sense, responsible firearm ownership. And looking at this mailer does not make want to vote for him. It does not even make me want to look at his platform. He earned a NO GO on this one.
