Illinois Chamber denies attacking Emanuel in Dunkin ad that… attacks Emanuel

Posted in:

* Greg Hinz also got a copy of the new Illinois Chamber ad on behalf of Rep. Ken Dunkin

* Script…

The secret about candidate Juliana Stratton? Stratton is really a puppet, a pet for Rahm Emanuel and the politicians who abuse our community. They won’t pass a budget, they eliminate home care for seniors and child care for working parents.

Ken Dunkin’s the stronger choice. Dunkin doesn’t work for Rahm, he works for the people. Dunkin wrote the plan to shut down red light and speed cameras. Dunkin took on Republicans to restore child care. Dunkin gets tough for us.

That ad is just chock full of truthiness.

* Anyway, on to Greg’s story

State chamber chief Todd Maisch defends the spot, saying Dunkin “has demonstrated he is more attuned to job-creation issues than a lot of other members” and has been helpful to the chamber on more than one occasion. Undermining the speaker’s power certain would qualify on that score, too.

I guess he woulda been helpful on “more than one occasion” because he has a 47 percent rating from the Chamber. But do you think anyone else would get a million bucks from the Chamber with a voting record like that?

* So, why attack the mayor?

“I would disagree we were going after him,” Maisch replied. “We’re very supportive of some of his programs as mayor.”

Um, OK.

* Hinz also talked to Greg Goldner, who runs Illinois GO, which paid for the ad, then writes

I’d sure like to be there the next time Goldner asks for a favor from City Hall. “His influence is gone,” says one insider. Or for that matter, the next time the state chamber wants Chicago help on one of its bills. Says a top Emanuel hand, “The chamber now has zero influence on Democrats. They’ve dropped any semblance of being anything except a Rauner puppet.”

My, my. Sure looks like they’re making progress on a Springfield budget deal, no?

No.

How many jobs did Dunkin create when he let child care tank and parents had to quit work?

  3. I guess I just assumed IL Go gave the money to the Chamber because it wasn’t going to go after Rahm like that. What should surprise no one is that Rahm would never make such a distinction. Whether you paid for it or produced it, or were in the same building when the script was approved, you are now dead to Rahm Emanuel.

On the plus side, being dead to Rahm is no longer as bad as it used to be.

  4. Rahm has calloused skin sinking poll numbers since the McDonald video was released. He is also known for his own aggressive political maneuvers.

He will get over it. And if not, he will completely break ties with one of the few organizations left in Chicago that may be even slightly receptive to him after the CTU negotiations and the McDonald video.

  5. Dunkin doesn’t work for Rahm… he freaking endorsed him less than a year ago!

  7. FKA, the Chicagoland Chamber isn’t the Illinois chamber, and my guess is the Chicagoland Chamber wants nothing to do with this. Rahm will be able to maintain the grudge for as long as he wants.

  8. Ironically with all the money being pumped into this race it is making Dunkin one of the most known state reps
in the Chicago area besides Madigan. In getting what we wish for who knows what Dunkin might run for next

  12. Afternoon Rich,

Bruce Rauner wanted to announce a new partnership with the Illinois Chamber and several Medical Marijuana supporters. From now on they would prefer to be recognized as the “Chamber Pots”.

    Best,

  13. The Rauner administration reminds me of that time when I went on an epic campaign to woo a young woman away from her boyfriend and discovered soon after that wooing her was much more fun than dating here.

Maybe winning the governor’s mansion isn’t what he thought it was going to be.

  14. I guess Todd is now just a patsy, not really part of the big brain think?

“Just take the money, run the Ad, and defend it. This isn’t a debate, just say you’re not attacking Rahm, and hang in there, geez.”

    Hilarious.

  15. Surprised anyone cares what Rham thinks anymore. CTU is about to roll him, again. Minorities can’t stand the sight of him after the McDonald tragedy and can anyone alive recall a weaker Chicago mayor than Rahm is right now? Rham needs help in major ways with Chicago/CPS finances and has no friends. Comical if it weren’t so tragic.

  18. The only jobs Dunkin is creating is in the tourism industry, as in every time he leaves the state during important votes…

  19. – Stratton is really a puppet, a pet for Rahm Emanuel and the politicians who abuse our community.–

Point of order: a puppet or a pet?

Also, if Pluto is a dog, what is Goofy?

Check out the chamber, keeping it real in “our community.”

I have visions of Les Brann with a big clock around his neck and a Sangamo Club golf cap on backwards, screaming “Fight the power!”

    Bad visions.

Geez, what a day for “Hang in There” Todd. He must have hit his head on something hard based on the answers he gave.

Not only that, but he’s going to need the family-size bag of frozen peas after what the Rauner crew did to him today.

Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Mar 10, 16 @ 7:07 pm

  20. Even Hillary won’t appear with our mayor. Who cares what Rahm thinks anymore he is radioactive

Comment by Sue Thursday, Mar 10, 16 @ 7:42 pm

  21. They wanted the tag line on the ad to say “Illinois Chamber”, not “Illinois Go”, I am sure.

My heads just spinning trying to follow the money…this money mostly came from Rahm Emanuel supporters, right? I mean, folks who just spent millions to elect him last year, now they want to spend millions tearing him down?

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Thursday, Mar 10, 16 @ 8:48 pm

  22. Atta boy Todd creating the State Chambers new poster child Rep Dunkin. I’m sure all the downstate Chambers are excited about that.

Comment by nadia Thursday, Mar 10, 16 @ 8:52 pm

  23. Illinois GO clearly pulls off the ‘Sting’.
Todd not yet ready for prime time, apparently.
Or shakin’ in his boots due to orders from Rauner.
