  1. ” Dave Bakke: Illinois budget stalemate going right into the toilet”

OMG! This is my favorite article. Mixing humor with sad facts helps me make it to Saturday.

  2. There should be a rule about no Russ Stewart articles on Fridays. Dude’s tinfoil hat/crackpot theories bums everybody out (and they’re always wrong).

  4. Russ Stewart’s conclusions may be a little off, but the issue that he is looking at is interesting. I think a bigger issue relates to the health of the Cook County Democratic Party. To be clear, democrats are going to continue to be elected in Cook County regardless of who the committeeman is. With that said, the ability of committeemen to get out the vote for their endorsed candidates is becoming more and more rare. Do you think that Aaron Goldstein is going to be able to move the needle for candidates he supports in the 33rd Ward? How does he even propose to do that? The fact of the matter is that the Party endorsement means less and less. In many instances it appears that committeeman posts are being used as opportunities to increase name recognition as opposed to ways to promote the goals of the party.

  5. Regarding Randy Dunn’s statement, I think that once it gets to June or so, the universities should just announce that they cannot afford university athletics until a budget appropriation arrives. They will suspend all athletics effective until that time.

That might be the only thing that gets this moving — which is truly sad.

  6. If Randy Dunn can’t say for certain now that if the Governor and General Assembly don’t act by May 31, then SIU won’t be opening in the Fall, he needs to:

    1) Find someone who can say it, with gusty, or

    2) Plan on closing now for the fall. Because absent that kind of pressure, there will be no budget by May 31, and if there is no budget by May 31 there will not be one until January 2017, and even that seems doubtful.
