* Kyle Hillman was at the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services’ “transformation stakeholder presentation” today. A major topic, of course, was the lack of a state budget…

A speaker just said that her wait list for children mental health services has ballooned to over 900. / Illinois failed these kids.

  1. The “we blame everyone” tact seems to be helping?

    Ugh. Horrible news.

  2. Is one of Rauner’s heroes (formally known as superstars) willing to take credit for this?

  3. The DeWitt County Human Resource Center also voted to close after June 30.

The =primary provider of outpatient mental health services in DeWitt County=, serve about 500 people.

Illinois has failed those 900 kids and those 500 adults.

  4. Always had a budget before Bruce “we may have to shut things down for a little while” Rauner.

    Hang in there.

  5. These are just the “primary” numbers. Many, many more people are affected- parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, teachers, caregivers… the list goes on. Everyone knows someone within at least the 6 degrees of separation that has been affected by this mess. If you think you don’t, think harder.

  7. 5th largest GPA in the nation.

And we cannot take care of kids.

    I am embarrassed.

  8. It isn’t a collective failure when the GA sends 30 Approp bills, and the gov can’t sign or reduce some bills to keep government open.

  9. Feature, not a bug.

    Right, Rodogno?

Clinton is going to be a delightful little town in a couple of years. Businesses like Revere jumped ship long ago. “Rolling blackouts” of layoffs and restructuring at the power plant ever since, and now it sounds like they’re pulling up stakes as well. Oh well, there’s always the toxic waste landfill and the medical waste burning facility. And a thriving meth trade. I think the car dealers were a little too close to the truth when they dubbed it “Little Detroit.”

  11. No need for the House to be in session. The Governor has two bills on his desk awaiting signature. Get it done.

    Dereliction of duty.

  12. To be clear: this was a stated byproduct of the governor’s campaign and tenure. Something about “crisis” and “leverage?”

More Transformation Stakeholder Presentations to come.

Comment by Now What? Wednesday, Jun 22, 16 @ 3:00 pm

  13. Gotta give this Administration props. It’s a great time to plan a human services transformation. Community-based services are gutted and the damage being done to the safety net will take years to cover. Court orders must be pursued to get state agencies and the comptroller to pay for services being delivered to many of the vulnerable, but not all. We don’t have a budget, nor one in sight. The budget “stopgap” budget proposed by the Administration funds barebones gov’t ops and almost none for human services. At least their proposal includes roads and capitol funds. Many that’s the crux of the human services transformation plan? Roads and physical infrastructure services will be used to rebuild IL’s Human Services collapse! Hopefully, the BigBrains thought of that. If not, they should go back and add it to this “novel” plan. At least that’ll add an original work product rather than repackaging the GoHIT plan developed WITH stakeholder input designed under Quinn.

  15. This is so heartbreaking. And with most issues, the earlier children and individuals are treated the better.

To make them wait puts their lives on hold. How they suppose to do well in school? Or their siblings? How long will it them to get their lives back in order? And the longer they wait for treatment, the more danger it puts them into self-medicating with drugs and alcohol.

It’s only going to get worse before it has any hope of getting better. The Governor needs to sign SB 2038 now.

  17. Hi CK!

Your boss has a bill on his desk. Get him a pen. Make him sign it.

If you care about kids that is.

    All my best,

    900 what?

  19. Based on the United Way’s latest “Illinois State Budget Impasse” Survey, I’d say we can only expect these numbers to grow. More info here: http://uw-mc.org/4thbudgetsurvey/

And these numbers aren’t just from the Chicagoland area. They have breakouts for each region in Illinois if you request them. They show the pain is everywhere. Once more of these programs close, those waiting list are going to be bottomless.

  20. Perhaps all those GOP legislators who voted for the $700 million emergency approp. for social services should ask The Boss to stop dreaming up new conditions after the fact for partially honoring contracts.

In short, stop being a deadbeat. The bill is on your desk.
