Fullerton gets a big promotion

Posted in:

* Remember this from Dan Proft’s DuPage Policy Journal?

Republican candidate for Illinois State Senate District 23 Seth Lewis’ Democratic opponent Sen. Tom Fullerton (D-Marion) was recently called out for his tax policies and inability to say no to House Speaker Mike Madigan.

* Well, here’s another one from Dan Proft’s Lake County Gazette

Lake County’s Rod Drobinski, the Republican contender for state House in District 62, recently spoke out regarding the rank-and-file Democratic response to the failure of the Independent Maps Amendment.

“Many rank-and-file Democrats insist they support a remap amendment,” Drobinski said. “But they say nothing when their own leaders block the effort to get it done. They do not challenge [House Speaker Mike] Madigan (D-Chicago) or [state Sen. Tom] Cullerton (D-Villa Park). They do not protest. They do not demand a vote on the floor. They do not confront. They shrug their shoulders, change the subject.”

At least they got his name and home town right this time.

Sheesh.

That wasn’t Drobinski’s mistake, by the way. When they rewrote his press release, they added the “Tom” and “D-Villa Park” stuff.

Proft’s reporter appears to be a freelance writer from Medford, Oregon.

  1. ===Proft’s reporter===

I think you’re being overly generous. I’d call this writer something else entirely. Stenographer comes to mind.

  2. I hate autocorrect.

Just as much as Dan Profit must after the article appeared in his supposedly-journalistic Lake County Gazelle.

That’s what happens when you have no editors working on Ruth de Jaguar’s stories.

Maybe they can hire one with all of Bruce Runner’s and Ken Griffith’s money.

  3. There was an era not so long ago when two proper noun errors would lead to a suspension if not firing in the world of journalism.
But then again, we’re not really talking about journalism with this writer or this product.

  4. Confusing Tom with John and autocorrent making his last name ‘Fullerton’ are just overlooked typos I”m sure. How do you accidentally refer to him as being from Marion, IL? Unless Villa Park autocorrects to Marion on the new Iphone 7.

  5. Don’t you just love the journalistic integrity of these reporters and these “newspapers”?

When I was at the UofI, getting one of my minors in journalism and writing for the Daily Illini, my editors would have me correct my copy if the details were unclear or if the facts were possibly in error. And, occasionally, I did have to resubmit my story.

Kind of makes me wish I lived in a targeted area that received one of these papers that has “all” the news that is fit to print”.

  6. Double sheesh. Another embarrassing “news” story courtesy of Dan Proft.

  7. How embarrassing! On the other hand, it’s not a newspaper and it’s not a reporter

  8. Rauner must be happy about people being dumb on his dime .

  9. Illini, I hope that I was one of those DI editors. :)

  10. Now that the state museum has been re-opened, Proft would be an exceptional model for a diorama on that unique species, the Illinois Fork-Tongued Grifting Warbler.

The sweet song of this Francis Urqhuart (FU) strain thrives by continually separating gullible right-wingers of millions of their dollars for no apparent benefit.

Seriously, going from Outfit apologist-gasbag in Cicero to the public brander and strategic force of the Gov. Rauner-owned Illinois GOP?

The dude can grift, on some of the people, all of the time.

  11. @soccermom - Most of my work for the DI was 69 - 70. And a little more the following year, but I got involved in a few other organization that year and the following year when completing my MA.

    Maybe our paths have crossed.

  12. Illini, I was coming in as you were going out. I started part-time as a HS senior in fall ‘73 and graduated in ‘78. Little did I know how valuable those 6 hours of “A” in gen eds would be down the road. There were some sharp folks at the DI and WPGU during my time there.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Monday, Sep 12, 16 @ 9:56 pm

  13. @AA -I am a few years older, obviously, but some of those that were with the DI in my time there went on to do some great things. One Pulitzer Prize winner, an author of several acclaimed books, one nationally syndicated pundit, one editor of a major national newspaper, in addition to a well respected attorney and at least two respected political operatives.

And I am afraid I have lost track of some.

    Old memories and interesting times!
