  1. Daughter-in-law had a minor glitch. She has the first name as my wife, just spelled slightly differently. Need to add that son and daughter-in-law just moved to the same precient and street as where we live, so it was their first time voting here.

Both myself and my wife voted early by mail. Someone had crossed their hands and marked the D-i-l as having voted by mail. After a bit of confusion, they got it straightened out and allowed her to vote.

  2. Voted early, so can’t help, thought didn’t see a line outside of my voting place, if there was one.

But did want to mention that I’m wondering how effective these GOP ads were. While they hammered home the anti-Madigan message, it was hard to tell who to vote against/vote for. I’m unsure how well they attached the [insert Democrat name] to Madigan and then who to vote for [insert GOP name] all in a 30 second ad… since there were so many targets, all the commercials seemed to run together at some point. But maybe that was the point?

To be fair, I’m not in a competitive House district (in Chicago), so I never heard my representatives name while the TV was on in the background; thus my attention was never peaked. And one could easily argue that the Democratic ads fall into the same boat. However, those never tried to connect a specific GOP name to Trump and Rauner. Obviously we’ll see what happens today, but anyone else feel this way, that the GOP anti-Madigan ads were too busy?

  3. Southwest Side Chicago 23rd Ward 4000 people voted early not including yesterday’s numbers. Some precincts already at 40% turnout

Comment by Porgy Tirebiter Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:10 am

  4. Lot’s of people voting. I was voter #197 in my NW corner of DuPage County when I voted around 8:00. That is about 3 times more than normal.

Comment by Dance Band on the Titanic Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:10 am

  5. I voted at 8:00 am at Edwardsville 13. No lines to vote, but they said they were very busy at 6 am. I was voter number 135.

  6. Attorney General Madigan’s office will Monitor General Election

    http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/pressroom/2016_11/20161107b.html
(Madigan urges voters to contact her office if they encounter suspected improper or illegal activity on Election Day.
Chicago area and northern Illinois voters should call 1-866-536-3496 (TTY 1-800-964-3013).
Central and southern Illinois voters should call 1-866-559-6812 (TTY 1-877-844-5461).

  7. Was in and out of my Niles Township precinct in 10 minutes but used paper ballot to avoid waiting for touch screen

Steady but no real lines. No precinct workers for either party represented

Comment by CT Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:23 am

  8. I agree the anti-Madigan ads are confusing. They try to cram too much into 30 seconds. My thought is to keep it simple and tout the positives of your candidate.

Comment by DuPage Dave Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:32 am

  9. Just checked my e-mail, and I have 2 e-mails already from Donald Trump. :-(

Shouldn’t he be out urging people to vote?

I’ll be soooooo glad when this campaign cycle is over.

    Comment by Lynn S. Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:33 am

  10. Steady rain now falling in Springfield.

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:35 am

  11. Voted at our new home precinct in Sarasota County this morning. Little to no line and the process seemed to flow smoothly. This is a Trump friendly community so I saw many more Republican signs posted.

Incidentally this area now uses optical scan, same method as our old area in Illinois. No more hanging chads.

  12. 19th Precinct in East Lake View at Nettlehorst. I was ballot #74 around 7:50 a.m. I waited in line about 20 minutes. Two precincts vote in this school auditorium, and the other one always has twice as many voters - the line for them went out of the building. The workers did a good job of sorting the line by precinct and having us fill out the forms with our names, addresses and signatures while we were in line so it was relatively faster at the desk when they compared signatures. No campaign workers outside the school, saw a Clinton/Kaine sign, a Feigenholtz sign, and one other — think it was Quigley.

  13. Voted at 8:30 in Sangamon 55 in beautiful Washington Park two blocks down the street from Rep. Jiminez’s home. DelGiorno was having breakfast at D&J Cafe just down the street. Slight drizzle, friendly people and not a pants suit is sight. I was voter 208 which seems about right for a presidential year.

Comment by Hill Willy Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:38 am

  14. Waited in line for 3.5 hours last night to vote early in Ward 48 (Andersonville, Uptown, and Edgewater) in Chicago (fun fact: voting location was two blocks from where Hillary Clinton’s folks lived when she was born). There was a solid three hours of line left behind me when I got to vote at 9 p.m.

Apparently nearby precincts this morning have no waits.

Comment by Newbie Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:38 am

  15. On those anti-madigan ads.

Had several different people respond to surveys in the target suburban races that they voted against Madigan by voting for the Republican in the U.S. House race.

Comment by Ggeo Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:39 am

  16. Voted on the East side of DuPage County. For the first time in the 8 years I’ve been voting in this city there was a line. Every machine and booth taken and parking spots were sparse.

Comment by RealChicagoHousewife Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:42 am

  17. just voted in Streeterville. William J. Kelly is handing out Kelly for Governor cards.

Comment by anonymous Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:48 am

  18. Reports from co-workers (I voted in Waukegan a couple of Sundays ago): no-to-little lines in suburbs, modest lines (but no long waits) in city.

Comment by lake county democrat Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:52 am

  19. 29th ward of Chicago. It was steady. Couple of hiccups, took 30 minutes to vote. People double voted on the Presidential a couple of times so they made announcements every so often saying only vote for one.

Comment by Hard working Art Student Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:53 am

  20. Just drove by 2 local polling places (near S/W Springfield) that each serve multiple precients. Parking lots were pretty much full. No lines out the door but they have lots of room inside.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:59 am

  21. No wait in Lyons-1 this morning about 7:20 a.m. but we are a very small precinct. Lines out the door for all Riverside precincts.

Comment by The Velour Nail Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 9:59 am

  22. Drizzling ended. 200th Voter. 20 in line in East Lakeview, Chicago.

Comment by Andy Raucci Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:01 am

  23. Voted in Lakeview. Showed up at my normal precinct location only to find out my precinct moved (luckily being in Chicago I could walk to the new precinct location). Maybe my memories bad, but this is the first time I can remember signing an affidavit with my date of birth and also the first time I remember seeing a Republican precinct judge.

Comment by Chicagonk Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:01 am

  24. I am late reporting but in Cook Bloom township precinct 2 there were 18 people in line to vote at 7 am and the judges told me the line went out the door at 6:00 Am and into the parkig lot

Comment by rwp Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:06 am

  25. Voted No. 196 at 9:45 a.m. in Capital 49, near west side of Springfield on South MacArthur. Brisk turnout, poll worker said it’s been heavy all day.

I looked for this Madigan guy that everybody’s running against, but I couldn’t find him on my ballot.

Comment by olddog Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:11 am

  26. Voted in Kankakee a few minutes before 8am and everything went fine. No waiting and no intimidation at all.

    Comment by Aaron B Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:12 am

  27. Duh! I should have proofread — I was No. 296 at 9:45 a.m. Capital 49. (It’s a good thing I don’t do budgets.)

Comment by olddog Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:13 am

  28. Long line in Chicago’s Wicker Park (Ward 2, Precinct 16) this morning - only two election judges were checking in voters for our precinct. I waited 90 minutes to vote and was voter #186 at 8:45 am when I finally cast my ballot (my polling place also housed Precinct 15, and 165 voters had cast their ballot as of 8:45).

Comment by WickerParkMom Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:23 am

  29. I voted before 9 in the 19th ward. Election judges said it was slow. I was maybe the 80th voter but was told a lot early voted. There was a line forming when I was leaving.

  30. Election official in western exurbs said this is the heaviest turnout she has been associated with…constant stream of people since 6 am. Not too much waiting, son and I voted.

Comment by Six Degrees of Separation Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:50 am

  31. South Loop, 3rd Ward, 13th precinct. Around 7am, I waited about 20 minutes; ballot #69. My polling place is awful. It was hotter than hell there. They asked people for IDs even if they were already registered, and I did not receive the additional ballot w/the ballot measures. I called city board of elections to complain.

Comment by pantsuitnation Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 10:57 am

  32. At just before 7:00, I was #44 this morning at my rural voting location. That’s a high turn out for that early. Done in 5 minutes. Biggest issue: 2/3 of candidates had no opposition. If our local Rep and Sen spent more that $1,000 this time around I’d be shocked. No ads, no handouts, no robos. They did hit the parade circuit.

Comment by zatoichi Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:00 am

  33. SW side of Springfield, light rain, 50% turnout at 10:30. Crowded but no wait.

Comment by springfield Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:04 am

  34. One of my students reported his wife (who is Hispanic) was asked to produce 2 IDs in order to vote. In Evergreen Park. She was told she needed to show Drivers license and Social Security card because “the software was asking for it.” This has been reported to proper authorities.

Comment by Terry Salad Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:07 am

  35. My Williamson County precinct had no lines at 10 am. I think about 70 votes cast there by then. Just slightly heavier than normal. Two “red shirts” out front poll watching. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that.

Comment by dr. reason a, goodwin Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:07 am

  36. Edgewater/Uptown Chicago, 48th Ward, 6th Precinct.

Got there around 6:50 AM. Gone to this poll since the Governor’s election in 2014. Never seen a line out the inner door til today. Waited about 20-25 mins. I believe my ballot was low 60s.

Election judges were very polite and helped a couple elderly folks with mobility issues to the front of the line and into a special booth for them. No one in line grumbled at this and helped point out voters with mobility issues to judges. It was very heartening.

Happy to report no shenanigans! There is a longer than the average non-presidential election wait time, but I’m guessing nothing out of the ordinary for a presidential election.

    Comment by Chicago_Downstater Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:10 am

  37. Voted at Washington Park Pavilion in Springfield this morning about 7. I was the 87th voter. It was busy, but I didn’t have to wait for a booth. I was in and out in about 10 minutes.

Comment by Steve Rogers Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:10 am

  38. Edwardsville at 6:35 am (sorry I’m late). Took 25 minutes. Only four polling booths. I was number 37 to vote. A little concerned about that.

Comment by Honeybear Tuesday, Nov 8, 16 @ 11:22 am

  39. OK, kids, time to shut this one down. I have baked a fresh new thread just for y’all: https://capitolfax.com/2016/11/08/lunchtime-and-early-afternoon-precinct-reports/
