The Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) has announced that Tim Nuding will join IHA as senior vice president of member relations on January 17. Nuding will direct all of the Association’s diverse membership activities and programs, as well as IHA’s educational curriculum and communications and marketing efforts.
“Tim Nuding has extensive management experience and proven leadership, communication and analytical skills that will strengthen IHA’s ability to address the many needs of our members,” said IHA President & CEO A.J. Wilhelmi. “In addition, he has considerable expertise about critical state government policies and programs, including the state budget, which will be invaluable.”
For the past two years, Nuding served as Director of the Governor’s Office of Management & Budget, being responsible for managing Illinois’ $60 billion state budget and advising the Governor and top Executive branch staff on budgetary matters and policy issues with fiscal implications. Previously, he held several key positions in the Illinois General Assembly, including Chief of Staff to Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno (2009-2014) and Director of the Senate Republican Committee and Appropriations staffs (2001-2009).
“I am excited to join an organization that is strongly committed to advancing the health and well-being of all Illinoisans,” said Nuding. “I look forward to working with A.J. Wilhelmi, the IHA Board and the Association’s more than 200 hospital members across the state who play a critical role in our state’s healthcare delivery system as well as our economy.”
Dealing with any federal changes to Obamacare and Medicaid on the state level will be a huge priority for the IHA here. Nuding will most definitely be an asset.

I don’t think IHA has direct contracts with the State, their members may, but Nuding will likely be paid by the association. If that is the case, the revolving door would not apply to him.
I’m no fan of this Gov, but some people need knock off the crap that anyone leaving state government and going into the private sector is on the take and crooked.

I imagine IHA members will like having an advocate when the governor’s office is deciding what bills to submit to the comptroller for payment. There’s quite a line at the moment.

Good for him. He maintained a high ethical standard in one of the most toxic swamps in the country. Maintaining that at IHA will be measurably easier.

Respectfully, it tells me to hire more good guys. Good guys shouldn’t be in that position their whole lives. They should move on and move up to the greatest extent of their potential.
They should be replaced with more good guys and gals, regularly.

A Guy, I agree but who wants to work for the state for far below market price in this toxic environment. Republicans don’t have a deep bench for public service. Or I should say don’t think there is. Maybe I’m wrong.

Honeybear - come on. Mr. Nuding has worked for the Senate and Governor long enough to be vested in the state’s pension system. When he retires he will get a state pension and free health insurance premiums. Rauner can pull similar types from other facets of state government and they would not be impacted nearly as much as people assume - especially since the high-level staffers make a decent chunk of change.

There will always be good guys and gals ready to serve and advance their knowledge and experience. The States Attorney’s offices are prime examples of people advancing their knowledge and experience in an arena where they become more involved earlier than they would in the private sector. The swamp becomes a swamp when the water isn’t roiled up with new winds blowing. If the good guys move on, there is more room for more good guys. Our problem has been ‘only’ the good guys have moved on, and many of the not so good guys have not. There’s no shortage of good guys ready to enter, just a shortage of jobs for them to enter into.

Honeybear- take a trip to Springfield some time. You will see that both parties have staffs filled with bright energetic talent perfectly capable of stepping into new roles when called upon.

Thanks A Guy II won on no small part to your heavy lobbying! To the post, I just don’t see any kind of bench at hardly any agency. This maybe very different in the parties but I just don’t see it at all in any of the agencies I regularly interact with. I’m in Springfield all the time. Maybe you can find someone in Chicago. I’ll give you that but downstate. No way.
Plus they would be a new employee with crap tier 2 pension and tier 3 health benefits. That’s what I have.
BTW for all those times I said we don’t have Cadillac benefits, well I found out over break that I was wrong. Tier 1 folks have tier 1 benefits. Yep those are Cadillac all right. I never knew. I assumed all had the same.
My point is that it’s super hard to fill positions in a ton of spots now. So many people are leaving. I know this is anecdotal but I don’t think you guys see it from my view.
I’m super afraid of what is next. Republicans should guard against optimism. Don’t assume that competent people are left.

How does the revolving door law apply or not apply in this situation? It would seem that the budget director had a hand in lots of decisions affecting hospitals and other health care agencies.
