  2. I am so proud of the eloquence and intelligence being demonstrated by my State Senator. /S

  3. I can’t figure it out. Is every elected republican high, or just insane?

  4. Must have just come out of a meeting with Goldberg.

  5. Wow, that’s offensive and disturbing on several levels. Honestly, what alternately reality do these folks live in. Idealization of the good old days is getting to be a dangerous affirmation of an oppressive cultural hegemony.

Comment by Honeybear Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 10:48 am

  6. Bend Over Tax would be good messaging but he twisted his analogy - he is saying getting spanked can be good for the kid. So then we should be supporting the Bend Over Tax as something painful butt beneficial in the long run.

  7. - Grand Avenue -

I thought it, but you said it better!

  8. As a one-time college English instructor, I would require him to revise his thesis. Whatever it is, it should state what he wishes to say clearly and concisely.

Or he needs to sober up before he tweets. ;)

Comment by RIJ Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 10:53 am

  9. And yet, the people in his district think he is a player in Springfield and will keep sending him here. They get what they deserve.

Comment by Give Me A Break Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 10:53 am

  10. I can’t figure out the message. In this analogy, is a tax increase the punishment we deserve? Is opposing the tax a childish response to punishment? Does he oppose both spanking and tax increases or neither?

Comment by AC Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 10:54 am

  11. Looks like something out of the Monty Python Hungarian Phrasebook sketch.

“My hovercraft is full of eels!”

Comment by Ron Burgundy Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 10:54 am

  12. Weirdness aside:

Every single one of you who is claiming that the legislature needs to “reject” tax increases is actually calling for further cuts to healthcare, education, housing, state police, prisons, roads, clean air and water and defaulting on state employee pension payments.

    The math is indisputable.

There are no alternative facts. There is not enough state revenue to support the state’s needs.

Stop pretending that voting no is an option, you’re just talking nonsense.

  13. Someone has been dipping into the medical marijuana.

Comment by Stones Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 10:59 am

  14. Is the “Bend Over Tax” related to the “Pole Tax”? I’m confused.

Comment by Old Shepherd Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:01 am

  15. just because the Republican President tweets during the evening does not mean you should, Kyle. this Tweet storm is a true disaster of communications!

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:02 am

  16. I do appreciate the hard work and tireless effort that the senators put in the compromised packet of bills. And I also appreciated the eloquence Leaders Radogno and Cullerton spoke with just a few minutes ago.

    And then there’s McCarter…

Comment by Miss Marie Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:02 am

  17. Anybody heard the guy who does Zapp Brannigan reading Trumps tweets? Maybe we could do the same thing here, it might make more sense.

Comment by Ahoy! Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:05 am

  18. Why didn’t he ever refer to the turnaround (and grab your ankles) agenda?

Comment by ash Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:05 am

  19. Kyle: Delete your account.

Comment by Politix Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:06 am

  20. Frank Watson would be so proud!

Comment by Magic Dragon Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:13 am

  21. Seems Sen. McCarter is pleased to prove himself incapable of carrying himself in a way befitting of a public official.

It’s the one thing I don’t understand about people on social media; we all say dumb things in person; sometimes we can’t find the words, sometimes things slip past our personal censors, sometimes we have failed to read the specific crowd; but the insulation of social media is that you get to review before you post.

He had this thought, jumbled it in that way, considered it clever and effective, and posted it.

    Sigh.

Comment by AlfondoGonz Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:14 am

  22. Kyle. Think it through before you consider messaging. Then, don’t message.

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:15 am

  23. Maybe, when he was spanked, he fell and hit his head?

Comment by PublicServant Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:16 am

  24. Is McCarty familiar with professional domestic disciplinarians, also known as certified spankers? See https://live.vcita.com/site/misslucyhall

  25. Whip me! Beat me! Make me accept a modest tax increase as part of a broad structural budget reform!

Comment by CEA Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:17 am

  26. The only reason we have a massive pension obligation is because the obvious and predictable obligations were ignored. The money was spent in ways that benefited taxpayers. Perhaps the taxpayers, myself included, should accept our punishment for failing to insist that we pay enough to meet our obligations.

Comment by Anon Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:29 am

  27. Oops Anon at 11:29 was me (if anyone cares).

  28. Someone should invent a BAIID device for smartphones. “Breathe here before the send button is enabled”. I think it could save a lot of relationships and embarrassment. This is a case in point.

  29. And here I was expecting to see a man with a tape recorder up his brother’s nose…

Comment by Doofman Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:34 am

  30. What on earth is “Bend Over Tax!”, and what does it have to do with being spanked as a kid?

I’ve seeing God awful pictures of so called “spanked kids”. Trust me, you do not go back to that. There are to many adults who have no control over stopping with one little spank.

Comment by Mama Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:36 am

  31. I reread that twice. Still not sure what he’s saying. On the one hand he seems to be saying getting spanked was good for him (maybe they should have done it more). On the other, we should reject the “Bend over tax?” But like his spanking, the bend over tax (which one is that?) is also good for him.

Is that what he meant? Huh?

Comment by Chicago Cynic Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:36 am

  32. I wish I got a $1 for every time I got spanked. I would be rich and retired.

Comment by Huh? Thursday, Jan 26, 17 @ 11:40 am

  33. In the old days, you would try out your attempts at humor on your friends, coworkers or family before you trotted it out at a party or larger social gathering. Groans or silence was good feed back to retire or not repeat the humor to a bigger crowd, thus saving yourself the embarrassment or the need to apologize for offending.

Nowadays, you try it out instantaneously to a worldwide audience. Too bad.

Oh, for the good old days.

  36. Tommydanger. Bam, you got it absolutely right. Today, no filter, or no thought there should be one. Anything goes…..no such thing as bad press (or bad ‘jokes), if someone offended, so what?!…whattaya gonna do to me??

  37. Did Kyle call his doctor? I think he suffered a brain hemorrhage.

Does his “Reject Bend Over Tax” suggest it’s being given for an illegitimate reason or administered in hate?
