Rate the new ILGOP ad: “Drop the Mike”

Posted in:

* From the ILGOP

After House Democrats ignored the will of the people by electing Mike Madigan to a 17th term as Speaker, it’s clear the only way we will stop the Madigan Machine is by ousting the politicians that give Madigan his power.

This means taking the case directly to the voters.

That’s why today, the Illinois Republican Party is launching the first phase of its “Drop the Mike” campaign, highlighting how Madigan and his prospective Gubernatorial candidates are working for the Chicago machine and against the people.

Watch the ad here.

And sign the petition at BossMadigan.com/Drop-The-Mike

The Madigan Machine is running on borrowed time.

  2. Raunerites… Raunerbots…

Do not tell me there’s a want by Bruce Rauner and/or his Crew to get to governing this state.

    It’s January 31st.

    We’ve gone 18 months, budget-less.

Rauner has held hostage, purposely, this state because Rauner can’t find 60 and 30 for an Agenda… and all the while destroying social services as a “reward” for “staying strong”

The state is facing a Strike. The governor’s legal counsel is asking another constitutional officer to possibly ignore court orders.

A state university wrote a letter that they will be open for a whole school year. That same university was ignoring mowing it’s grass.

Over $750 million of funding never made it to the U of I system.

And this ad is what Raunerites and Raunerbots think will help?

Do not tell me Rauner cares about Illinois.

Rauner cares about not being blamed for the destruction he craves and that The Ounce can continue to exist as Diana signs off on checks to continue the politics of destroying social services.

That’s it. These games are not the signals of an honest broker. Today. January 31st. No way.

  5. Is Rauner that oblivious to see that the a large portion of this state is in revolt against the leader of Rauner’s party?
Right now, no one cares about Madigan, they care about opposing Trump in Chicago. Rubber trying to distract the fact that he had the same R next to his name as Trump will not work. No one cares.
Madigan is a hero because he doesn’t support Trump’s actions. Rauner does.
Rauner is a coward. His days are numbered. That’s a good thing.
    Bye bye Brucey.

  6. The worst political advertisement of 2017. Period.

Comment by Stark Tuesday, Jan 31, 17 @ 10:42 am

  7. I rate the ad as poor. If we ‘drop the Mike’ then what? The ad should have stated what the better replacement is or will be. Who will replace Mike and what will he/she do that is better for Illinois?

  8. @OW

Not going to disagree with a word. But… ILGOP is way better at marketing than ILDEM. Period. ILDEMs are content with the awful Hillary strategy of hoping people see the truth while ILGOP is shaping opinion.

That’s true. But I will say 62.7% of that is by default since the ILDems refuse to even engage in any messaging, good or bad.

  15. Is this it? I mean, is this all the GOP has?

The focus for the next two years is going to be solely on Madigan?

Good god. How tiresome. This is when all that cash starts to backfire. In a year — maybe less — this is just noise.

GOP — i.e., Rauner — better wise up and realize the enemy they know is probably better than the enemy they don’t.

  16. It’s good that the ILGOP has all this money since you will have to start paying Rauner’s employees out of your own pocket in 28 days. Lance and CK need their paychecks

  27. Do not tell me the Speaker has moved one inch towards a bipartisan budget compromise.

Do not tell me there’s a want by Speaker Madigan and/or his Crew to pass any badly needed reforms of state government or our business environment.

    It’s January 31st.

    We’ve gone 18 months, budget-less.

Illinois has been in decline for over a decade. Democrats don’t want to change anything.

Speaker Madigan admits in 2012 “most of us recognize the current state of Illinois pension systems are financially unsustainable. Everyone pretty much acknowledges that and that there has to be some kind of change.

So I would simply ask everyone let’s not get swept up in the emotion of the minute, lets keep our focus and continue to try and educate ourselves on these issues and move towards good solid decisions as to how we can solve these problems.”

I would say he has been AWOL for quite some time moving towards “good solid decisions” as to how we can solve the state’s problems.

Saying no to everything is not an option any longer with the realities of divided government.

You know we’re talking about a budget, right?

You’re again advocating the requirement, or holding hostage, budgetary agreement for “reforms” that can’t get 60 and 30.

You have an uncanny knack at gutting your own arguments, lol

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jan 31, 17 @ 11:35 am

  32. Why is only the Senate on board with compromise and the realities of a divided government?

Why did the Speaker and “everyone agree the current pension system is unsustainable in 2012″ and resist tooth an nail any attempt at reform going forward.

Does he suddenly think the pension system is now sustainable?

Are there 60 votes in the House that think the pension system is sustainable or are they all ostriches with their heads buried in the sand?

  35. Randolph- your oerception is caused by your living in. Deep Blue State. I am not thrilled with the Trump 10 day performance but still rather have him in WH as opposed to HRC. The polling to date has more support for Trumps performance then your entry suggests. Rauner is not a Trumpster and what is going on with our budget and fiscal mess has ZERO to do with either Trump or national politics. Madigan may think blowing up the status quo in terms of employee pay will lead to a budget. In reality it will just punish a bunch of folks who need their pay since they don’t have cushy real estate tax practices or live high off the public trough

Actually, more anti-Boss Madigan commercials will be coming under any circumstances. The last election settled nothing. Welcome to the non-stop campaign.

Comment by Deft Wing Tuesday, Jan 31, 17 @ 11:55 am

  39. OW the pension reform proposal is not a “Raunerite proposal ”

    It is Senator Cullerton’s .

Why would it embarrass the Governor or the Speaker to call the Senate President’s and fellow democrat’s bill?

Think on that for a minute

Comment by Lucky Pierre Tuesday, Jan 31, 17 @ 11:56 am

  40. ===It is Senator Cullerton’s===

Then Gov. Rauner, himself, actually has no pension proposal.

Further, by vetoing the CPS bill, for “Sen. Cullerton’s proposal” not going fast enough, and personally as a governor hurting Chicago students, Rauner did so without any proposal of his own.

===Why would it embarrass the Governor or the Speaker to call the Senate President’s and fellow democrat’s bill?===

Nothing to think on. Rauner can’t get 60.

    You’re telling me it IS Rauner’s, it’s Cullerton’s, it’s… LOL…

Rauner still needs 60 for any proposal he supports, created, advocates…

    You know this.

This is the second time I’ve pointed out the need for 60. Do not “forget” that again.

Comment by zatoichi Tuesday, Jan 31, 17 @ 12:24 pm

  42. As far as Cullerton’s pension proposal goes, something happened between the time it was first brought up several years before Rauner and now. There was a Supreme Court ruling about the Constitutionality of pension changes. At the time of ruling, even Cullerton said his proposal probably wouldn’t be constitutional.

It’s only out there now to give Rauner a carrot, but will never pass the constitutional test. But hey, Illinois has plenty of time and money to waste on defending this in the courts.

    Comment by A Jack Tuesday, Jan 31, 17 @ 12:37 pm

  43. =Does he suddenly think the pension system is now sustainable?=

The pension system is actually sustainable. It has been in existence for over 90 years and will actually improve over time due to Tier 2 and continued regular payments by the state.

No system is particularly stable when it isn’t properly supported. Financial or other wise.

Had you said stable I would have agreed with you.

    Evidence supports its sustainability.

  57. In a way, it doesn’t matter that the ad is a turkey. It’s a stand-in for something else. In a semiotics sense, what they’re doing is pointing to a barn-sized pile of money, lighting it on fire, and standing back, laughing, because they can afford to keep doing that. Over and over. They’re daring Madigan, trolling and taunting him to get him to commit all his resources to a spending game to counter their messaging. Shelling term bet on Rauner’s side is that he can play arsonist longer. For Madigan, the best option is not to play the same game, but find another way to the goal. As a guy that sometimes has to stop and consider if this is the week he can afford to go thru the car wash or wait for rain, it makes me laugh to see their media “burn rate”, and compare the return Rauner is getting from it. Rich people are not automatically smarter people. Or better people. They do what they think they can afford to do.
