Unclear on the concept

* From a CBS 2 story on the Illinois Policy Institute’s budget proposal

State Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) said she thinks the public will press for approval of the IPI budget plan.

“That four-person family where the dad’s working his tail off, and maybe has a second job, and they know that they’re funding the Medicare for an able-bodied single adult who doesn’t want to get a job; I’ll tell you what, they’re all in on this plan, sir. All in,” she said.

Um, Medicare is federal. Medicaid is state. But way to go on the class division stuff.

Also, if that four-person family has a kid in college, I’m not so sure they’ll be loving a billion dollar cut to higher education. But, hey, maybe they’ll just send their kid to an out of state college.

Audio is here.

  1. Rep. Ives…

A member of the General Assembly that used coloring books to teach about government… now touts the gutting of higher education.

Wonder why Governor Rauner won’t roll this out as HIS budget plan.

    Why is that?

  2. Family of four will love the local tax increase to keep police and fire departments functioning and higher cost for kids to go to college.

  3. Sounds like Rep. Ives is ready to pull out the faded Confederate uniform and go on the March.

  4. Ives would vote against life-saving meds for sick kids because the price of such a drug would bust the Medicaid budget.

  6. Rallying like minded folk against welfare cheats is a time dis-honored, low risk, standard tactic. Cheats of any sort are fair game, but how many pols take on the rich folk who give them money and probably as much inclined toward cheating as welfare recipients? Just kind of cowardly.

  7. Demoralized…don’t be.
It’s rich irony that she is a Republican and it’s founder had this to say…

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

  8. Jeez wearing Privilege then slashing on Perfidy is just really overpowering.

Ives just finished reading The Politics of Resentment by Cramer

She read it well. Studied it she has.

  11. ===and they know that they’re funding the Medicare for an able-bodied single adult who doesn’t want to get a job===

She must have missed this sermon:

“Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”

    Luke 18:22

  12. Hey, local police and fire departments can just bill people for their services. Homeowners insurance pays for that stuff, right?

Snow removal? Just wait for it to melt. Yay for global warming! Potholes? Drive around them. You’ve got a steering wheel; use it.

Sick people kicked off Medicaid can go to the ER. And why do universities need all that money? All they really need are blackboards and chalk! Oh, and football stadiums, but ticket sales pay for those.

    Problem solved, easy-peasy!

  14. Rep. Jeanne Ives, graduate of West Point and a BS in Economics proves even a person with a college degree might not have common sense.

  15. Sounds as though she doesn’t know what Medicare is.

Comment by JoanP Thursday, Feb 2, 17 @ 5:48 pm

  16. Medicare is 100% federally funded, Medicaid is funded with a combination of State and Federal funds, the match is typically 50 percent for Title XIX for Aid to the Aged Blind and Disabled (AABD) program. “Able bodied” (non AABD eligible) persons are only eligible for ACA coverage or possibly “traditional” Medicaid if and only if they have dependent children. Presuming Rep. Ives meant to refer to Medicaid, it still represents a lack of understanding or a deliberate effort to incite resentment in support of the IPI proposal based on a false stereotype.
