Cullerton brings up retirement rumors

Posted in:

* Senate President John Cullerton himself brought up the rumors about a possible retirement during his City Club appearance today when he was asked what he would say when he comes back to give another speech a year from now….

IL Senate President Cullerton: I am returning next year…disputing retirement rumor

— newsburrow (@newsburrow) February 6, 2017

He’s at the beginning of a two-year term. So, coming back next year isn’t disputing anything.

* The reporters then got to ask him about the topic…

"I'm not resigning," Cullerton says. He says passage of the budget plan will help him make future decisions.

Nobody expected him to resign. I told subscribers last week how I think the grand bargain fits into all this - with both Senate leaders.

* One more…

    Concur. Make it about this session and getting past 2019 might help quash some of this much easier.

  2. I’m probably reading way too much into Cullerton’s message as relayed by the ever-questionable Mike Sneed, but I thought it was a subtle hint to Speaker Madigan. As in, “here’s my marker Mike: If you tube this deal, I’m out. You can deal with Harmon, or Munoz or Whomever. And good luck with fixing this mess by yourself.”

  3. I think the first remark was more of a joke about all the rumors?

  4. Smart money says Harmon, no way Munoz outhustles him. Raoul has been rumored for everything, I’ll believe it when I see it.

  5. Munoz comes with a shark tank. That would be one way to add problems to problems.

    Madigan is so lucky he has Cullerton. Hopefully he will realize that before it’s too late.
