  1. I went up to Evanston to see the trophy last month because I knew I’d be out of town on March 8 and wouldn’t be able to see it in Springfield. I was incredibly impressed with the way the Cubs org ran the photo op. The line moved very quickly, but my family didn’t feel rushed. Nobody was rude. Unlike the Stanley Cup handlers, who take a professional picture of you with the Cup and then give you a link where you can access it on a certain date, the Cubs folks gamely collected everybody’s cell phones and took your picture with your own phone so you could have it right away. Amazingly, there seemed to be no snafus with this. Everybody seemed to be getting the right phone back and all. Folks were smiling and relaxed, yet the wait wasn’t too bad. I was thrilled. Enjoy, Springfield!

  2. Bruce Rauner will suggest that if Illinois had ‘right to work’ the Cubs would probably have won the last 20 World Series.

  3. Sorry. Anon @ 11:20 was me.

  4. “Todd Ricketts has given… $2,500 …to Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner …In 2014, he gave $50,000 to the Liberty Principles PAC, led by conservative talk show host and Rauner ally Dan Proft, and another $10,000 to the state Republican Party.”

“Pete Ricketts [gave]$10,000 to the state GOP and $2,500 to Rauner in 2014.”

“Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts has given more than $61,000, including $50,000 to the failed 2014 effort for a constitutional amendment aimed at removing much of the politics from redrawing legislative boundaries. In Illinois, Joe and Marlene Ricketts have given …$10,000 to the Illinois GOP and $2,500 to Rauner in 2010.”

I know that Laura Ricketts was a Superdelegate and early HRC supporter, but the Cubs are a Republican, Pro-Rauner, Pro-Trump organization.
For this reason, the IL Dems should boycott the trophy ceremony.

  5. As someone who has had his picture taken 5-6 times now with the World Series trophy since 2005, my advice for any Chicagoan is to not waste sitting in line for a picture the next few months. There will be plenty of opportunities the next few years. Let the downstaters have their opportunity.

  6. I had thoughts, then I saw MissingG’s comments, and my thoughts were diverted. Sarcasm, please? Pretty please?

  7. It’s enough to make me make a scheduled “meeting” that day to get a photo with the Trophy!

I’m always glad to see teams travel their hardware. Love the sharing. Need to check my calendar…

  8. Go Cards!

  9. Rauner will use it as an example of how you need to burn something to the ground to build it back up into a champion.

  10. The trophy should go to the State Fair like the Stanley Cup. It might help with attendance.

  11. AlfondoGonz, yes, that was sarcasm

  12. “Thoughts?”

Baseball! A man stands alone at the plate. This is the time for what? For individual achievement. There he stands alone. But in the field, what? Part of a team. Teamwork…. Looks, throws, catches, hustles - part of one big team. Bats himself the live-long day, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and so on. If his team don’t field — what is he? You follow me? No one! Sunny day… the stands are full of fans. What does he have to say? ‘I’m goin’ out there for myself. But… I get nowhere unless the team wins.’

    Springfield could use some enthusiasm.

  14. Meh. I’ve seen ‘em before. We’ve got 11 of them in St. Louis. They’ve got so many of them they use them as door stops at Busch Stadium.

    1. MrJM’s “Untouchables” reference = priceless

    2. Sell tickets; state budget crisis solved. Right?

    3. Yes, that was snark.

Comment by Linus Tuesday, Feb 21, 17 @ 1:57 pm

  17. I think the State should sell tickets for people to see the Cub’s 2016 World Series Trophy. Why not? IL could use the revenue.

  18. “the Cubs are a Republican… organization”

When wasn’t that the case? President Taft’s brother once owned the team. “Big Bill” Thompson was briefly the team president before he became mayor. William Wrigley, Jr., was a delegate to Republican National Convention (and a boating friend of “Big Bill”).

  19. Thanks MissingG, and sorry for even considering otherwise. Cheers

Comment by AlfondoGonz Tuesday, Feb 21, 17 @ 2:19 pm

  20. Albert Lasker also had an ownership interest in the Cubs and he helped elect Warren G. Harding in 1920.
