Posted in:

* Yep. This is correct. Neither side has clean hands and we need a real budget with revenues that match expenditures…

  2. I forget.

Did all House GOP members vote against lowering the state income tax?

  3. Did the Democrats propose a budget this year?

  5. It’s not an alternate universe — it’s almost dollar-for-dollar the exact same universe.

What’s the message here? You suck as bad as we do?

  6. It would balance out if the Democrats added a “grand bargain” line item.

  7. I am politically naive, I admit; but why exactly are the Dems’ hands unclean? Rauner has yet to propose a balanced budget based on quanitifiable expenses and revenues. And the only spending legislation he did sign was ~$8 billion out of balance. Does anyone here really believe he will sign any annual budget? Is so, what leads you to that conclusion? Thank you for any non-snarky answers.

  8. Either way, HGOP…

You’re voting “Green” on the Rauner Tax…

… arguably the largest permenant tax increase since Illinois instituted an Income Tax.

    … so, there’s that.

If I were in Leader Durkin’s Crew, I’d try to steer clear here, and look where Radogno is catching heat.

This ignorance isn’t cover, it’s putting off the inevitable.

Governors own, and Rauner is owning that tax increase… with Raunerite House Caucus votes.

  9. Nicely done. Potential to turn the conversation away from the line items highlighted by Chris Kennedy. As an added plus, the House Democrats are to weak on messaging to hit back.

Comment by Earnest Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:05 pm

  10. If the HGOP members don’t want to spend that amount then they need to show everyone the $7.2 billion of specific cuts they want to make. Same goes for Rauner - show us what cuts you want to make, and take on responsibility for proposing those cuts.

    Comment by Joe M Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:07 pm

  11. This is the only thing the Rauner Republicans care about…capturing the heart and brainstem of the ill-informed?

    Comment by Johnnie F. Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:09 pm

  12. My Representative has never been one to let the “facts” alter his perception of reality!!!!

  13. Capturing the hearts and minds of the ill-informed. Sounds like Trump also. It’s the American education system. Not the people’s fault. Just a lack of education, ignorance.

Comment by Curly Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:25 pm

  14. HGOP, Per Article 2, Section VIII of the Illinois Constitution, Gov. Rauner must propose a balanced budget, he has failed to do so. Gov. Rauner is, using language from my time in the Army, guilty of deliberate and willful dereliction of duty.

Comment by kitty Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:30 pm

  15. House Dems’ mistake was not including a 7 billion dollar revenue item in that budget entitled “workin’ tagethar on a grand bargain”. That would have made it real, balanced budget proposal, or so I’m told.

Comment by PJ Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:36 pm

  16. So what’s the GOP plan for fixing Illinois? Wild guess: “cut waste and fraud.”

I bet most of these Republicans privately know that we can’t cut our way out of this and a tax increase will be needed. But they’re desperate to keep their fingerprints off of it when it does happen.

    Comment by tobias846 Wednesday, Feb 22, 17 @ 4:37 pm

  17. I wonder if Rauner will do a line item veto on the budget this year so that it balances?

I’m glad you admit Rauner’s $4-7 billion, grossly unbalanced budget, needs deflection.

    “Thanks!”
