Left and right wings agree on messaging

Posted in:

* Tuesday

The Chicago Teachers Union issued a statement on Monday that again accused Emanuel and CPS of playing politics instead of turning to solutions to help schools such as raising taxes.

“The mayor behaving as if he has zero solutions is incredibly irresponsible,” CTU President Karen Lewis said in the statement. “Rahm wants us to let him off the hook for under-funding our schools and instead wait for the Bad Bargain to pass the Senate or Rauner’s cold, cold heart to melt and provide fair funds.”

* Wednesday

After the Senate Democrat and Republican leaders announced a suspension of work on the “Grand Bargain” budget deal, state Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, released this statement:

“Ding-dong the bad bargain is dead.”

Emphasis added.

  1. “Ding-dong the bad bargain is dead.”

    This statement is a clear demonstration of the lack of leadership from an elected official more interested in posturing than solving the problems that beset the State.

  2. I wouldn’t consider CTU (a union designed to look out fit their own best interest, as all labor union do) a good example as a group looking for common ground.

    I wouldn’t consider Mr. McCarter a good example of a Senate member that looks for compromise within good governing.

    These two examples are two examples where they see compromise in governing is bad… unless getting all they wavy is considered compromise.

  7. This is Ragnarok folks.
    The Raunerites are einherjar. They’ve longed for this battle with the Jotuns of Labor

    Folks this doesn’t turn out for anyone

    It will be the same for our state

  8. We can only conclude from McCarter’s juvenile comment that continuing to do nothing is better than agreeing to the “bad bargain”. He need to elaborate and defend that position beyond offering up childish remarks.

  9. Well, she has a point. There is a lot of wealth in Chicago. And they could raise their property taxes again without reaching the rates of many neighboring towns. But that might not help Mayor Rahm’s re-election effort.

  10. Hopefully republican control of the governorship gone also.

  11. Sen McCarter, where have you outlined your budget ideas in writting so they can be reviewed?

  13. ==I have a number of ideas how to do that and I have people from the other side of the aisle working with me to do this.==

    If Kyle was any more vague, he’d be a 14 year old telling me about his day in school.

  14. Maybe there was a missing comma, and the message was actually to Kyle McCarter, i.e. “Ding-dong, the bad bargain is dead.”

  15. Typical McCarter. He readily slams compromise or attempts at a deal. His constituents might be surprised at the cuts they would need to endure if McCarter had his way. As one of his constituents (and I am embarrassed to admit that), I am looking forward to him leaving the Senate and getting someone who will represent the District better.

  17. Often times when both extremes dislike a deal 9and everyone in the middle is equally dissatisfied), it means it is a good deal (in the sense of being the best deal possible at the time).
