I live for family. For my daughter, my wife.
My father grew up in India with no running water, doing homework by candlelight.
I grew up in Illinois.
We’re not wealthy or famous. My student loans and child care cost more than my mortgage.
But our family helps each other. We’re for each other.
Illinois is like a family when we’re at our best.
Some politicians try to divide us by where we live, where we’re from, and what we look like.
They leave us fighting for our fair share.
But we’re in this together.
When jobs leave a small town, that hurts Chicago.
When city schools are denied the funding to create tomorrow’s workforce, that hurts the suburbs.
When roads and bridges are crumbling, that hurts all of us.
We can’t disconnect, and we don’t want to.
We’re one state. One family. And we deserve a New Deal

The Pawar family is proof that you can make a go of it in Illinois.
Surprisin’ that the guy in the next video salivatin’ about gettin’ his mitts on public pension money doesn’t think his family can. He got pretty fat here at the public trough.

I like that Pawar is using (or attempting to use) logic to connect the problems of Illinois. This acknowledges that Chicago vs. suburbs vs. the rest of the state is a real thing - and yet, we are all connected in some ways.

Rauner right at pension funds as the primary source of growth in his business. Also interesting that the Pritzker’s start-up world is very different than Rauner’s venture capital world for established companies

Listening to Pritzker talking up Groupon is like listening to Gerald Levin talk up the AOL Time Warner merger.

Pawar’s story is nice, however there are thousands of stories like his across the state. And a really progressive, tax and spend message is hardly unique, especially in this Dem field. I get it is an intro video, but you know what is missing from it, one single accomplishment from his professional life. Why is he running? He loves his family? He has a semi-inspirational background. Hardly unique. There must be 1000 other Pawars in Bucktown, Logan Square, Evanston or Skokie.

Rauner was not dropping Gs in that interview with JB. You mean hasn’t always dropped his Gs? Surely that isn’t a new shtick just since he’s gotten into politics. Does this mean the flannel shirt and the Bob Vila This Old House carpentry workshop are political props too?

Beaker, I think an intro video should give me some reason why I should vote for a candidate in addition to making an introduction. A semi-inspirational and a not really unique life story doesnt do it for me. There is no hook. What did he overcome? What did he build? What major piece of public policy did he create and pass? What is his case?

Pawar video is good start, it frames the division that Rauner is trying to sow without sounding angry. Definitely like the diversity in the video, in terms of gender, race, age, and at least by appearance, geography as well. Still, it was simply a short personal intro, what’s going on right now, and less about what his vision is. I do have to ask what’s up with all the candidates not wearing a tie…I get why the billionaires do that, but when you’re on the younger side it helps.
