Rate the new Rauner ad

Posted in:

* Gov. Rauner’s latest campaign ad “non-candidate advertising focusing on the issue of Illinois governmental and fiscal reform” uses press clippings to make his case. This was recorded off a TV broadcast

* Script…

Independent voices say Bruce Rauner’s urged lawmakers to fix the budget and is on record with a plan to make Illinois competitive again.

It’s why they call Rauner “the only grown-up in Springfield.”

The Rauner balanced budget plan caps spending, pays down debt, freezes property taxes, term limits politicians and grows jobs.

Independent outlets say Rauner issued “a call to action to change the status quo,” pushed for “economic growth to save the state.”

Together, we can Fix Illinois.

“The only grown-up in Springfield” line comes from a February 17th Crain’s Chicago Business editorial which praised Rauner for backing the Senate’s grand bargain during his budget address. That editorial board did not weigh in, however, after Rauner knocked the grand bargain off its tracks just a couple weeks later.

  1. Not a bad ad, but Rauner just can’t help himself. Yet again, Rauner pretty much disses Republican Legislators who have time and again carried his water in Springfield.

    It’s pretty clear Rauner never played team sports.

  2. Who are these “independent voices” and “independent outlets” pray tell?

    Probably IPI.

  3. = make Illinois competitive again=
    Anything in a slogan with the word “again” at the end of it, ties you to Trump. Therefore it’s not helping the Gov or GOP.
    I give it a C

  4. The Rauner crew is really banking on common folks not knowing what a balanced budget is. To put, in big bold letters, that Rauner’s “balanced budget plan” is to freeze property taxes and install term limits heavily relies on people not asking a pretty obvious question: how would that balance the budget?

  5. Nice “non” campaign ad.
    At least this allows the Governor to do what he does best- get back to campaigning because that Governing thing was really throwing him off.

  6. As soon as I saw “Rauner” and “balanced budget” in the same sentence I knew to ignore the ad.

  7. I give it an F. Why does he keep referring to the balanced budget he presented? He didn’t present a balanced budget. Who are the independent sources? The Carhartt prop is old and worn out.

  8. Jethro Bodine graduated from the third grade, and he was a grown-up Too.

  9. I suspect the people who refer to Rauner as the only grownup in Springfield are either paid to do so or are rather clueless about government.

  10. Wildly dishonest. Every sentence of the script.

    Rauner is counting on enough people, all of the time, to be uninformed morons acting against their self-interest.

    Worth a shot, with his money. What does he have to lose if it doesn’t work? He moves on to another hobby, like model trains or beekeeping or something.

  12. Let’s review.

    Independent Voices? BS - he means IPI.
    Balanced Budget? More BS. For reference, see MATH. Oh, and his budget director.
    Only grown up in Springfield? No - that was before he blew it up.

    Yea, pretty much the only words in this script that is not dishonest are “the” “are” “a” “and”

  13. I think we need a Ron Howard style narration from arrested development.

  14. How twisted can it get when you have a governor running positive spots in the midst of this FUBAR, 18 months before he’s up for election?

    Seriously, braggin’?

  15. If Crain’s really called him the only grown up in Springfield then I’m going to subscribe just so I can cancel my subscription.

  16. What???? Hun? You jest! Is that Carhart from the last run for office? It looks new!

    So much hope, wasted. Meaningless commercial.

    Actually I think the man is going to over saturate the market and that will turn people off!

  18. Norm Abram’s workshop is getting a serious push. None of the tools look scratched. Like they just came off the truck from Home Depot. Somehow I do not picture these people actually putting a tool in their with sweat.
