First “JB and Me” online campaign video released

* JB Pritzker campaign…

Today, the JB for Governor campaign released the first in a series of “JB and Me” online videos highlighting JB’s commitment to his community and the future of Illinois.

The video features Neal Sales-Griffin’s work to help people learn how to write computer code. With the help of 1871, a non-profit small business hub that JB founded to help small tech companies get started, Neal was able to build a company that has taught 1,600 people how to code, design, and build web applications.

“I’ve seen firsthand JB’s impact on hundreds, even thousands of other people and businesses,” said Neal Sales-Griffin. “JB sees a challenge — something that others might see as insurmountable — and he’s ready to take it on. I know I’m just one guy, but I hope that my story will help shed a little light on who this man is, and what motivates him. JB Pritzker helped change my life, and I can’t wait to watch him change Illinois.”

  1. The message on this is alright, but it’s at least a minute too long. Way too much set-up. 3/5 stars, would still vote for Biss

  2. Leading off with a business he helped start up and grow. Rauner hasn’t been able to name one since he started his first campaign.

  3. Very solid out-the-gate message but way too long.

  4. Looks like the consultants are milking the cow early. Being paid by length of time not effectiveness.

Overall its a good video, but it needs to be cut down to 10-15 seconds. Get the name out affiliate it with someone or something. 60 seconds to long especially when you can skip the ad on YouTube after five seconds.

  5. Great video. For those criticizing the length, i dont think this is meant for television. its a perfect web ad. I’m sure you will see parts of this ad, and others like it to come, combined into an intro 60 second positive ad once JB goes on the air. great distinction with rauner — job creator vs. vulture capitalist.

“Perfect” web ads are usually a lot shorter than this. Just sayin…

  7. great video but too long. B+

however, let’s run that kid for office! HIS personality is great.

  8. “JB and Me” will be very easy to parody with disgruntled workers.

  9. I give it an A-. It would be an A+ if it was shorter.

  10. Maybe “perfect” was not the best word to use. Comptroller Mendoza had a good intro ad up early in her campaign. Its a good way to get to know a bit about the candidate and what they care about without trying to force it into a 30 or 60 second tv ad.

  11. One more job than Rauner has ever created!

  12. Depending where and how it’s used, nice solid message of introduction for JB the person. Narrator is appealing and will clearly be an asset in the campaign. I liked that the ad was about featuring the current result and about extrapolating more potential results to society, not just about JB. Too long, but the length didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would after reading other comments.

Sooner or later the campaign will need to deal with practical policy stuff, addressing political power struggles and sacred cows between experienced Dem pols/constituencies, and Illinois’ financial woes. But it’s a good opener for JB.

    Grade A-.

  13. It’s not “too long”, really, just too much time spent on things that are unnecessary for a *campaign video*. They’re not boring in their own right- I find Sales-Griffin’s story compelling- but it’s hard to connect the first 30 seconds or so up to “why JB Pritzker should be Governor”.

It’s early days, though. That can be fixed.

  14. I liked it a lot but its strength comes from Neal Sales-Griffin who is compelling and has an interesting story to tell. It could have been edited a little tighter and I think JB would have benefited a bit more if he said anything to camera but otherwise pretty sharp.

  15. Perfect story
Paints the stark difference between DopeyDuct — the wrecker and someone who made money to make something happen and did not worry about a lot of mumbo jumbo or punishing middle class families

  16. I think the video is a good glimpse into their campaign strategy. JB is the good capitalist vs. Rauner the bad capitalist. JB uses his wealth for good - to invest in things that add to the world while at the same time helping him making money. It is a smart way to own he is a wealthy guy and demonstrate he has done tangible things to build our state.

The specific video is too long, but if this is the direction they are going, I think it will serve him well.

Comment by Montrose Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 11:19 am

  17. It’s better than average, but it’s way too long. It drags. Trying to do too much. Better production quality than content management here. If you weren’t focusing on watching it all, it’s boring. Average Joe checks out long before the :45 mark, less than half way.

    Comment by A guy Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 11:43 am

  18. Average Joe never even sees it in the first place, it’s a web ad.

Comment by Arsenal Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 12:04 pm

  19. ==Average Joe never even sees it in the first place, it’s a web ad.===

Average Joe sees tons more web ads than any other kind. People are less patient with web ads than TV/Radio. You can click out or away of a web ad any time you want…and they do.

    Comment by A guy Wednesday, Apr 12, 17 @ 12:11 pm

  20. What are JB’s solutions to the budget crisis in Illinois and what specific plans for economic development does he propose.

There have been zero economic development proposals from democrats who don’t seem to be concerned about attracting or retaining businesses here in Illinois
