* Gov. Rauner was in Quincy today…
Rauner also talked about his “Turnaround Agenda”, which is his multi-layered approach to improving the state’s economic growth. He said when it comes to core issues on this agenda, he is open to compromise with Democrats if it means progress.
“There is nothing in what I’m recommending that has to be there,” Rauner said. “If they refuse to do term limits, OK. Take it out. If they refuse to do a property tax freeze, OK. Take it out. But let’s be clear. We have to have a package together that allows companies to have confidence to come.”
If that’s the case then he should’ve let the Senate pass its grand bargain last month. But, c’mon, we all know it’s not the case. He’s just talking nice things to the cameras because he knows the people behind the cameras won’t ever put one and one together.

The vertical integration will take this and run it thru the news service, run an editorial about it, talk about the editorial based on the quote in a radio program, then all those “cites” will exist for paid media like commercials and mail pieces…
… all the while wholly and blatently dishonest to what is going on, or the game plan that is counter to these words.
The blowing up the Grand Bargain, undercutting Leader Radogno, and then “this” makes clear;
Rauner is counting on press coverage of 90-120 second sound bites to offset Rauner’s real plan few actually cover.
This is why this trip was paid for with campaign cash I guess(?)

Still waiting for an acknowledgment after two years from the majority party in the legislature that we need the economic growth in the private sector and they have to change their policies that stifle private sector job creation.
To what do they attribute our sorry unemployment numbers that helped Rauner get elected?

@Lucky, I helped a friend setup an engineering company last year in Chicago and they have 12 employees and looking to expand again. The secret? He is a great boss, not once did he mention regulations keeping him down.

His turnaround agenda has always been a moving target whose items can’t be zeroed in on — or ruled out either, as he will eventually keep bringing “dropped” items back.

This is very odd. If he really was signaling that he’d take those two items off the table, why did he do this in Quincy where it was far less likely to be noticed?
Also, left unsaid was whether he’d still sign off on an income tax increase with no property tax freeze. A month ago that “parity” issue was a huge deal.

Lucky Pierre is absolutely right, Dems in the legislature are a mess & have no recovery plan– “Look at Trump!” But that doesn’t change the fact that Rauner is his own worst enemy the minute he opens his mouth.

Blaming the Dems for not steering the ship, something governors do for states is admitting Rauner is inept.

You are correct. The list of reforms that he is talking about changes from week to week depending on who he is talking about. The Democrats leaders should request a meeting with him this week and tell him that if he’s willing to put term limits and property tax freeze on hold for now they will work with him on some meaningful workman’s comp reform. I’ll bet if they did he would come up with another demand that he knows will blow up any deal.

Lucky, please explain in detail how term limits will impact the economy to the extent that robust economic growth will be the direct result of them. Please show your work for all of us to see please. We want actual numbers not dishonest generalities. I could make this really challenging for you and ask that you do this for the other items on Rauner’s ever evolving list of “reforms” but I thought it best to keep it to justthis one item to keep things simple. Go.

Rauner must know he’s likely a one-termed and is auditioning for the revived Clairol ads.
In his case not only doesn’t his hairdresser know, it’s not clear if he knows what his bottom line is.
He’s a little league version of Trump- all over the map.

Brutal, and so accurate. Good on Rauner for so effectively using every avenue open (wide open) to him. Shame on the IDP for not forcing him to take a detour here and there. Shame on the media for giving away free advertising instead of taking the very small amount of effort it would take to do some outstanding human interest stories.

How much data do you need from the last two decades to show that Illinois has failed in job production with loss of population relative to neighboring states to see a correlation to the fact that Illinois is not business friendly in comparison to these states?

Rauner needs 60 and 30.
Right now, “Bruce Rauner has failed” these past two years in accomplishing anything except to get his negatives to 58% a mere 3% “higher” than Speaker Madigan.
Not much to run on except to run away from his own failures(?)

First, I believe it was called a “recession” - look it up! As Rich has pointed out many times, Illinois tends to both enter and exit recessions later than the country as a whole.
Second - the unemployment rate in Illinois has dropped from 8.2% to 5.4% in the time that Governor Gaslight has been in office. I’m not exactly sure what *you* are suggesting, but my lyin’ eyes say that was done without even a single item off the TA agenda being accomplished. Just sayin’

This is not the first time he has insisted he is totally flexible in front of reporters while being totally obstructionist behind the scenes.
And it will not be the last.
Democrats just need to demand his best and final offer. Tell us what changes you demand to the Grand Bargain, and let’s be done with the discussions.
