Pritzker says he supports legalizing marijuana

Posted in:

* A few days ago (click here), I asked all the Democratic gubernatorial candidates where they stood on legalizing marijuana and regulating it like alcohol. The only person who didn’t respond was JB Pritzker, who hadn’t yet announced. Today, his communications director sent me this statement…

JB favors legalization in Illinois and wants it to be done in a way that ensures common sense regulation and a plan to maximize revenue to the state.

  1. Well that there is a “common sense” statement.

  2. Why minimize revenue? I mean, I get that Government shouldn’t be viewing it (or anything else) as a cash crop, but that seems like an odd statement.

The politicians are way behind the people. Politicians like Sessions and Rauner are just farther behind than most.

The only age group in which a majority does not favor legalization is 71+. So I think you can see where this is going….

  30. If a Dem wins the Governor’s mansion, this will be high up on the agenda (YEAH, I SAID IT).

It’ll be interesting to see how Madigan responds to that.

Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Apr 13, 17 @ 10:36 am

  31. Your right Rich: this is progress - most agree to complete legalization. Twenty five years ago, people declared marijuana will never be legalized because of the “Gateway” theory or people assumed it more dangerous than alcohol and tobacco. Times have changed and now the anti-pot zealots few and far between.
