Noted finger-pointer demands people stop pointing fingers

Some suburban state lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say they share the fear that the budget impasse in Springfield won’t be resolved before the 2018 election for Governor. But, they are also using the “C” word: Compromise.

Naperville Republican State Representative Grant Wehrli feels lawmakers aren’t doing their jobs by allowing the budget standoff to continue, but he hopes both sides see the light. WBBM’s Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.

“Well we all have a responsibility in this, but we also have divided government and that’s going to take compromise and that’s going to require all of us sitting down at a table and understanding that we all have a job to do,” Wehrli said. “And not point fingers at each other.”

I love me some Wehrli and I totally agree with his comments to Craig, but, man, is that ever some industrial strength chutzpah.

* The legislator is well-known for being one of the most active trolls on Twitter. A tiny sampling

@HouseDemsIL careen from crisis to crisis for decades and call it governance. Illinois cannot afford more Madigan budget mischief. #twill

The spending plan passed by Madigan's minions was done only to give them cover as Illinois House is set to go on 2 week vacation. #twill

Nice to see many @HouseDemsIL tweeting about Federal issues today. A full year budget appears to be of no concern. #Distracted #Oblivious

  1. And heaven forbid you point out his hypocrisy on there. If you reply without towing the Raunerite line, you will be blocked.

  2. I so fear the word ‘compromise ‘ means raise the income tax on the working poor aand middle classes and then we can forget about this silly talk of a progressive income tax.

  3. we all know that BVR will not let the House R’s compromise one bit, nice PR move by Rep Wehrli, but just words coming out of his mouth.

  6. At least Wehrli ain’t tap-dancin’:
Rep. Dan Brady on WGLT’s Sound Ideas- “I would like to throw a lifeline, but I what I want to do is make sure that lifeline is truly going to help and stay afloat. I don’t want somebody to think a lifeline is going to produce something and it not be there,” Brady said.
He went on to say, “”Plus, we know that even if this is approved by the General Assembly, the governor is going to veto it.”
Brady, instead of fingerpointing, would rather just sit on his hands and claim to be working toward compromise, even if it takes until 2018. He plans to hide behind the veto power of Rauner instead of stepping up for his constituents in social services (especially) because, by golly, lifelines aren’t to be used to save people if they can’t hang on until the “boat” gets to them.

  7. Wow, why spew those words when we all know that they are too scared to vote against the Brucey Bruce, none of them want a primary challenger. So instead of voting their district they are voting whatever way they must to avoid a challenger.

  8. No excuses at all for him; blatant hypocrisy on display here.

Yet, he has a point with Illinois Democrats (and I would argue Democrats as a whole) and their focus on the Federal government. If you were new here and reading some of the ILHD member’s tweets, you’d never guess that they’re not a U.S. representative.

It looks terrible and further drives home the point that IL Dems are seriously struggling with a message.

  9. The GOP in the GA doesn’t have the backbone to vote their conscience and go against Rauner and the Dems. re-elect MJM to another term as speaker. Before anybody points fingers you’d better look in the mirror first. Just sayin.

  10. “And not point fingers at each other.” Another example of do as I say, not as I do.

  12. C word….amusing.

Famously, Eve Ensler in her piece “The Vagina Monologues” has a part called “Reclaiming the Word C….. ” And she urges audience members to shout out the word to reclaim it. And shout they do.

so, in that spirit, all together now, COMPROMISE!!!!!!!!

  16. ==I so fear the word ‘compromise ‘ means raise the income tax on the working poor aand middle classes==

Yeah, it does. I get your push for a progressive income tax and I’m with you but it will not solve the current problem. We can’t wait around for that to be implemented. Revenue is needed now. If you’re solution is to be against any deal that doesn’t have immediate revenue (i.e. a tax increase now) along with cuts then you really aren’t interested in solving the immediate problem.

  18. It’s good to hear that Rep Wherli opposes regressive tax hikes. That makes one in his caucus.

  19. All are sinners, but some have seen the light. If Rep. Wherli has seen the light, then he will henceforth eschew partisan finger-pointing.
