Labor unions kick off ad campaign on May Day

Posted in:

* A group of labor unions led by Local 150 of the Operating Engineers is using the international May Day holiday to launch a $2 million advertising campaign under the name “Fight Back.” Click here for the website, and here’s a new TV ad running in Illinois and Indiana

* The Fight Back Fund kicked in $1 million to last year’s lockbox amendment campaign. It’s a tax-exempt political advocacy group that doesn’t have to disclose its contributors. However, the group’s head, Marc Poulos, told the Tribune last year that it is largely funded by union members.

  1. Killing the middle class and working tax payers isn’t working for trump and won’t work for Rauner.

  2. Well made ad. At some point, I think they might need to dig into actual policy, like pushing back against right to work.

  3. Nice, well produced visual feel good piece that somewhat reminds of the “Look for the Union Label” pride ads of the 1960’s and 70’s. I think Americans’ relationship with unions have changed somewhat since then, though, so I am not sure if this ad will stand on its own or do much.

  4. Good ad. Finally, they’ve found someone on that side who knows how to concept, script and shoot a video. It’s very solid.

  6. Makes me think of “Fight Back!” with David Horowitz, the consumer advocate show from the 1980’s.

  7. Nice, soothing ad. And a waste of money.

Better to do a hard hitting ad ripping into rauner, that has a chance of going viral. And getting talked about.

Left scroll: litany of specific damage.
Right scroll: rauners incredibly callous statements. Happy energized. Winning. “A”. Wont miss you. Etc.

  8. Union President won’t support Rauner, this is Rain Comes from clouds news. Hypocrites abound in this state.

  9. Nice positive ad with tone that’s not harsh. I like it and hope the campaign continues.

  10. Public employee labor unions need to be illegal.

  11. - Ron -

Six year olds showing off their fingerpainting want less attention then you.

“We see you” - Ron -, now add to the discussion. Ugh.

  12. I always love it when unions tout the union label. Here’s some advice. Suspend pension benefits when one of your own buys non union. Same if your union members perform or hire a ‘cash’ job. Does anyone out there think a FOP,AFSCME or SEIU member really cares? We have met the enemy and his name is not Trump,Rauner or right-to-work. Honeybear is spot on. We will rise from the ashes….but it won’t be til we all get together.

And one woman with 2 seconds to spare. The other woman serving food…does she count?

No one ever said Local 150 was for diversity. Take a look at their executive leadership: all old white males.
