Today’s quotable: “Nothing’s getting done”

‘Nothing’s getting done’

That was the message I received from Hanover Park Mayor Rodney Craig, who was among local mayors who traveled to the state capitol in Springfield last week to push for an end to a two-year standoff blocking a state budget. There’s “no sense of optimism with anyone we speak with on either side of the aisle,” Craig said, adding “it’s pretty clear we won’t see a budget” before the 2018 gubernatorial election.

  3. Anon is right on target. The ILGOP is certainly blowing their chance to use their huge majorities in the Illinois House and Senate to make positive changes.

  4. If there’s no budget until after the 2018 election Rauner will be remembered as a failure as a Governor. His successor will have a huge mess to clean up, he’s not going to have an enviable job.

  5. @ The Dude Abides - I think Rauner will be known as a ‘double failure’. Seeing as he blasted Quinn for all of his failures, then promptly doubled down on the problems.

  6. When Rauner wins and the Dems still have majority what then? Will this continue until 2022? The self inflicted mess being created will make a second term an absolute nightmare for Rauner. How many seats can he really pick up if Pritzker goes full on nuclear with campaign funding, assuming he makes it out of the primary? If Pritzker throws $200 mil, how does Rauner combat that plus feed all the folks below him?

No, it’s not. I wish people would just stop with the partisan generalizations. As has been pointed out repeatedly on this blog, Republican governors such as Ryan, Edgar, and Thompson managed to govern the state and provide budgets. Rauner’s philosophy of governance is extreme and does not represent the party as a whole.
