Pritzker’s mascot arrives at Statehouse

* Twitters…

I promise not to keep making this a thing, but there's a visitor at the statehouse today for the final day of legislative session pic.twitter.com/yK8LtqRCzS

Spotted outside statehouse: @JBPritzker's most punctual campaign surrogate. Tick Tock the Budget Clock doesn't speak, has subpar dance moves pic.twitter.com/erHU5sXLUN

Tick Tock is waiting patiently for Bruce Rauner, but looks like someone doesn’t want to face him 👀 #Day700 #twill pic.twitter.com/bCJ0ZYVgMn

* And if you’re wondering what Tick is carrying…

One of my former interns told me the cops wouldn’t let the mascot into the building. Cosplay is apparently verboten inside the Statehouse. The rules may have been changed since a giant walking budget was photographed outside the governor’s office last year.

* But Pritzker’s mascot did do its job because it attracted some media attention…

  1. Rich boys and their toys.

Rauner should be flattered by the imitation.

Quinnocchio is his most sincere and statesmanlike accomplishment to date.

  2. (This is a snark alert)

    Hey! Mascot!

    Never mistake inactivity for achievement!

    Geesh. Pfft. Horrible!

(This is the end of the snark alert)

  3. Wonder if the mascot gets $15 an hour?

Comment by LTSW Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 12:52 pm

  4. I’d like to see Tick in a fight with Squeezy.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 12:53 pm

  5. How can one acquire one of those certificates?

I have a wall that would make a fine place to hang such fine memorabilia.

It’s “official”, yet sassy. It’s mile-stoning while stoning the idea of activity.

If the mascot signs it, I’d be much obliged too…

    “Skyhook, in reverse”

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 12:54 pm

  6. Tick toc is the first job Rauner has created in Illinois…and I didn’t get it.

Comment by doggonit Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 12:56 pm

  7. I hope tick toc is unionized

  8. That thing looks like a donut. Now I’m hungry and I just had lunch.

    Brilliant!

  10. Quinnochio got his SAG card, we used him in “Dad’s Home State” as “Raunerite #4″ during an outside scene, real professional.

I’m sure after, s/he will qualify for a SAG card too…

  11. I feel a little for the reporters who worked hard in journalism school and moved up to statehouse reporting only to be assigned a story on a guy in a clock costume that looks like somebody sewed it together from leftover scraps of felt.

  12. –I feel a little for the reporters who worked hard in journalism school and moved up to statehouse reporting only to be assigned a story on a guy in a clock costume that looks like somebody sewed it together from leftover scraps of felt.–

Buy a twelve pack, give them each a beer and you’ll still have a couple left over, most days.

Comment by wordslinger Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:10 pm

  13. Tic Toc should be holding up a Certificate of Failure. Bruce Rauner failed. His failures far overshadow his few achievements. Those can be counted on one hand of a carpenter who had an accident with his table saw in a shop not so clean or safely equipped as Bruce’s workshop.

Comment by Markus Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:14 pm

  14. somebody get Tick Tock a (portable) toilet!

  15. “…only to be assigned a story on a guy in a clock costume that looks like somebody sewed it together from leftover scraps of felt.”

Yup - the costume looks ridiculous. How do I know? Because every time it’s around the cameras are covering it. A LOT.

  16. Hey Bowels, I just got back from lunch too, and I thought it was a cookie!

Comment by Grandpa Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:17 pm

  17. HBO - “Dad’s Home State” - Season 3, Episode 30

Bruce grouses about the budget, it turns out it’s the budget dedicated to robocalls and tv ads. Diana goes to work and checks social media, is confused by the tweet sent by her workplace. Diana’s State Employee spins Diana’s workplace tweet as a “positive for everyone”. Lance tweets pictures of Quinnochio to JB, “ck” re-calibrates the Rauner Word Jumble for June 1st releases, Goldberg writes a memorandum to a costumed mascot. Comedy, 58 minutes.

  18. === Tic Toc should be holding up a Certificate of Failure. ===

I think you are missing the point.

Comment by Just Observing Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:19 pm

  19. That $230,000 JB saved in property taxes will pay for lots of mascots !

    Comment by Lech W Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:19 pm

  20. What’s the rationale for not allowing Tick Tock inside the statehouse? I don’t quite see the need, in the public interest, of diminishing Ticky’s first amendment rights.

Comment by Just Observing Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:22 pm

  21. He can change in the mascot locker room.

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:29 pm

  22. SMH that candidates use these ploys and the media covers these things so much, when in fact, there is so much to (un)cover in the underbelly of political candidates and their friends.

Comment by this is news... Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 1:31 pm

  23. As if that costume doesn’t look unbelievably uncomfortable already… but I think Tick Tock needs a Carhartt jacket…

  24. If we’re going with clock motif how bout just go ahead and hire Flava Flav?

    And making a living wage.

Comment by City Zen Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:13 pm

  26. I wonder if there are any photos of Squeezy The Pension Python and Tick Tock together? They would make two great ’spokes models’ for Illinois.

Comment by Illinois Native Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:15 pm

  27. ===If we’re going with clock motif how bout just go ahead and hire Flava Flav?===

Perhaps it is the domestic violence and attempted murder charges…?

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:15 pm

  28. Here’s the real question:

Who’s the girl in the dress in that last picture? Holy moly!

Comment by Fax Machine Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:20 pm

  29. Cheesy, and not really funny. It lacks the biting sarcasm of effective mockery.

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:26 pm

  30. That outfit is going to be plenty hot this July and August.

Comment by Keyser Soze Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:46 pm

  31. The costume will be hot in August at the state fair, but I will gladly buy Tick Tock a lemonade shake up.

    Comment by A Jack Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:56 pm

  32. Did anyone ask clocky if they ever called Balgo about a political appointment?

Comment by OneMan Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 2:57 pm

  33. So now we have the perfect character to follow Pritzker - a Toilet wearing a Blago wig!

Comment by Grand Avenue Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 3:01 pm

  34. Fax Machine: BINGO. The photographer on that shot wasn’t interested in TickTock. And thanks for that…….wow.

Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 3:21 pm

  35. The other Dem Gubernatorial candidates better get on the ball and come up with mascots of their own.
