  10. It’s hard to beat the total eclipse of the sun on August 21. The last one in the continental US was in 1979. Southern Illinois will be a very busy place around then.

  12. Landscaping the yard - we spent the last twenty years de-landscaping (some intentional, some wind related). When I retired, we were down to one shrub, a spindly rise bush, and some daffodils that pop up in odd places in late winter. What is it about retirement and yard work? Maybe the sheer delight of being outside, doing physical work, and enjoying the quiet.

  14. Going to visit Havana, Cuba, while it is still possible to do so, as friends have told me it is a city frozen in the 1950s, with very friendly people who are scared to death to say anything less than positive about the Castro brothers.

  22. Well, we did plan a week’s out-of-state vacation, but thanks to WIU’s contract non-renewal announcement yesterday, we decided that wouldn’t be prudent. So I’m now pretty much on Amalia’s plan.
