Candidates use Father’s Day to gin up support

Posted in:

* Bruce Rauner…

As a father of six children, I taught my kids to be proud of their home. Illinois is where I grew up and where I chose to raise a family; it has always been so important to me that my children know how special our state is and all that it has accomplished.

That’s why I ran for Governor.

As my children grew older, I couldn’t continue to watch career politicians ruin our state. When I accepted the job of Governor, I did so with our state’s future, the children of Illinois, in mind.

Now, the very future of our state is at stake. This past week, I called a special session to bring the General Assembly together in Springfield to pass a balanced budget with real, lasting reforms for our state.

On this Father’s Day weekend, I ask you all to join me as we create a more prosperous Illinois. Sign here to show your support for real reforms and a balanced budget so that we can secure a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.

We’ll never stop working to bring back our state, and your support will continue to fuel our progress.

* Sen. Daniel Biss…

When Daniel first started as a state legislator years ago, and when Elliot and Theodore were very small, Daniel used to write notes to the kids for each of the days he was gone. The kids called them Daddy letters.

Daddy letters were Daniel’s way of letting our children know that no matter how crazy a day he’s having, he’s always thinking of them. Sometimes the letters were sweet. Sometimes they were a little goofy. Sometimes they just brought much needed smiles.

Whatever they said, these letters were just one of the many ways Daniel showed he care about them. And, whether he was on the road or not, he always made sure he made quality time a priority. Here’s Daniel playing blocks with Theodore:

That’s the kind of guy he is: loving, selfless, and willing to do the little things that make a big difference. Daniel has always been there for me and the kids, and I know he’ll do the same for Illinois.

Let’s make Father’s Day one to remember. If you haven’t signed our card, will you wish him a Happy Father’s Day today?

Thank you!

    Thanks to Gov. Rauner, kids all over Illinois now know that you don’t need to be a career politician to ruin the state.

  2. I like Biss. I just wish he wasn’t aligned with the party that is tied to #resistance and all the destructiveness of that.

    I find that so much of what the national dem party puts their efforts into to be un-American.

    I can’t support any of that in any way, shape, or form.

  3. No matter who does it — Biss, Rauner, Trump — there’s something weird and unseemly about linking your kids to any kind political message. It’s enough to love your kids and take care of them and help them. That’s fine.

    But when, you know, the “career politicians” start forcing you to look at your kids and wonder how far this great state has fallen — that’s, ya know, a bit much.

    Heck, some fathers might look at their kids and realize how the “billionaire politicians” have conflated wealth with knowledge and ability — no matter how many millions Mamaw and Papaw have “given to schools” and other social institutions.

    *eye roll*

    If you are a rabid fan or a casual watcher of HBO’s “Dad’s Home State”, these words should be pretty doggone familiar.

    This is the opening that begins every “Dad’s Home State” episode.

    Then… the B-Roll has Bruce in phony costumes, the Diana and Bruce laughing about Bruce’s shirt… the raising of the WRONG hand during Bruce’s swearing-in… and finally Bruce waving at the audience while driving that Trashcan van.

    It’s “our” open to every episode.

    It’s as honestly phony on our show on HBO as it was yesterday.

    I will ask Goldberg if he cleared that with HBO because the writing room is a bit confused why they didn’t get the writing credit.

  6. –When I accepted the job of governor….—

    LOL! Accepted? You didn’t spend $100M and flop around in the gutter for two years desperately trying to grab it?

    Rauner was and is one the biggest bank rollers of career politicians in the state.

    But it’s all for the children, of course. Like shorting K-12 a billion, shutting down homeless shelters for teens — for the children.

  7. “there’s something weird and unseemly about linking your kids to any kind political message”

    I somewhat agree, but it’s also true that for some its family, especially young ones, that are the biggest motivator for doing what they feel needs to be done. Constituents often want to know that.

  8. He forgot to mention he called the special session after his insider buddies with road and lottery contracts started to whine —however all signs point to the lottery development was all self inflicted.

  9. I saw that “accepted the job of Governor” line too. He’s gotta be the world’s most egomaniacal volunteer.

  10. Is Daniel’s wife really soliciting Father’s Day greetings for Daniel? Kinda weird.
