Missing in action is Rauner’s much touted push for term limits. Wednesday marks the last day the Senate could clear a constitutional amendment to send it to the House.
“Leader Radogno has consistently pushed for term limits and a vote on the Senate floor,” Radogno spokeswoman Patty Schuh said. “Based on discussions today, she is not anticipating a vote tomorrow.”
Her constitutional amendment was moved directly to the floor without a hearing on May 19th and then placed on 3rd Reading way back on May 22nd.
The House has to use up three full days to read this into the record before they can vote on it, so today is the deadline.

The state is in a budget crisis and republicans who won’t even term limit tgemselves are worried about a term limits bill.

The Senate agreed upon this and voted on a substantive resolution supporting legislative leader term limits on the first day of the new General Assembly. And the resolution was not Leader Radogno’s - it was Senator Julie Morrison’s resolution. It passed 58-0-0. Would term limits result in our politicians running this state more efficiently? Probably not, but it is popular, just like property tax freezes are. The whole term limit thing was just political theatre by the GOP because it plays well with voters. I would agree that I’d like to see limits on how long legislators can hold leadership positions. I’d also like to see changes made to allow voters to recall their Governor instead of having to getting stuck with a bad Governor for 4 full years.

Term limits shouldn’t even be on the radar screen anymore. It has no relationship to the budget or improving the state’s economic climate. Besides, the Democrats are simply not going to agree to it. Move on.

Priorities, people. We need a term limit bill now so that we can vote on an amendment that, if passed, would enable us to prohibit a guy currently 75 years old from running for reelection for Speaker in 2029…

enough with the term limits. how often do people term limit themselves in the private sector? not often. why? because people have to learn to do a job. government is a job and it must be done well because if it is not, the private sector suffers. but the problem now is not term limits. the problem is holding up work because you ask for things like term limits. move on!

We currently have term limits - - it is called elections.
Term limits will not reduce Illinois’s debit.
