Every year for decades the state of Illinois has passed a budget. For the three years under Bruce Rauner, Illinois had failed to pass a budget due to Rauner’s refusal to compromise. Governor Rauner is a bully with an extreme agenda who is destroying our state. The consequences will be grave if we don’t pass a budget right away. Call Governor Rauner at 217.782.0244. Encourage him to sit down, pass a budget and do his job. Paid for by Do Your Job, Inc.
The robocall comes on the heels of a mailer paid for by Bruce Rauner’s Republican Party distorting the budget crisis. The mailer attempts to solely blame the legislature for the budget crisis and abdicate the state’s chief executive of his responsibility to govern.
The robocalls will also begin on a day when Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno – who often worked on a bipartisan basis for the good of the state - announced that she will be vacating her post at the start of the fiscal year. In a statement, Radogno expresses her “sadness and some disappointment” and joins Illinoisans who “hope and pray that the Governor, other legislative leaders, Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and House can find a path to solve the state’s problems.”
Do Your Job, Inc. is currently on air with an advertisement entitled “The Brink” encouraging Governor Rauner to secure a budget. In the ad, which began airing yesterday, Edgar declares that Illinois is in the worst condition he can ever remember including the state’s tenure during disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich. Do Your Job, Inc. is led by IL Sen. Michael E. Hastings of South Suburban Cook County, IL Rep. Lou Lang of Skokie and Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael T. Carrigan. “The Brink” will run in conjunction with the legislature’s special session schedule in hopes of helping to secure a budget.

The budget problem has being going on for over 30 years it’s a state problem, both parties and public employee promises that just aren’t sustainable

Really…The state has been going downhill for more than 2 years. Now the Democrats have a Republican Governor to blame. Madigan and his buddies should have been doing even half a job. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad now.

Please remember that none of this craziness existed before Rauner came to town. Sure, we had bad budget bills, but at least we had real budgets passed and signed into law.
Since Rauner, nothing. He’s the one, peoples.

Wasn’t it Jim Edgar who “stole” from the pension funds in the 1990’s that started this mess. Isn’t Jim Edgar currently engaged in a private business to provide something like the infamous “pay day loans” to help organizations in the mean time, I am sure at a high cost. Finally, Jim Edgar did nothing to repay the pension funds he “stole” from….
I cite all this Edgar comments in reference to TV commercial being run by democrats in conjunction with their phone call. Talk about garbage…..

Not really. After the 1970 Con-Con, the first Governor to short the pension funding was Dan Walker - D, in FY75.

Actually, Edgar was the FIRST Governor to get a multi-year (actually, multi-decade) pension funding plan in place. Prior to that, it was pretty much the Gov and GA just picking a number out of the air for that year’s pension funding. Yes, the Edgar ramp was flawed with it’s back-end loading … but it was better than the previous no plan. Edgar did what was “doable” at the time.

This has been in development for decades, The Book, the Sun also rises, there is a question asked–”how did you go bankrupt, slowly at first, then suddenly.”
If the state has a problem they should have been fixing them all along-rather they raise tax rates and add new taxes.
Rauner took the job thinking erroneouslly and probably foolishly he could turn it around.
It took Theo epstein several years to build a winner, and 50 years ago it was Jim Finks and Jerry Vainisi.
Whats happening today is the responsibility, on the backs of Governors and Legislators for 30 years.

Madigan has had the state by the short and curlies for over forty years. Rauner has been in office for a little over two and suddenly everything is his fault. We actually have legislators showing up and working ten minute days instead of attempting to work with the Governor because they are afraid of Madigan. Recently, on one of the rare days that they hung around for an hour or two, several of them actually had the nerve to propose new programs to spend money on. The Exodus out of the state is gaining momentum and they think they can replace that lost revenue with higher taxes, which in turn is just making more people exit. The people that are leaving aren’t retirees heading for Florida. They are prime working age young adults heading for Texas. We will be able to start throwing the dirt on the box very soon.

Partisan tomfoolery. Doyourjob at best is only a response to Rauner’s robocalls. Perhaps Rauner is a horrible Governor. Illinois still needs to be reformed. I don’t think my State Rep will help much.

It’s obvious both sides have blame in this crisis. As the leader of the state, Rauner needs to lead and get a budget passed.

Is it just a coincidence that not only can the Governor not be willing to negotiate a contract with his workers, that he has also been unwilling to negotiate with the lawmakers on a budget. Appears we have a Governor who does not represent the people of Illinios, but represents his own personal agenda. How did we let this happen?
