  1. So let’s be clear….. the Governor and the House Republicans will vote for a Revenue bill and NO Reforms with Senate Republicans doing the same??? 3 years No Budget for what??

Comment by JAH Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 12:01 pm

  2. They already passed pension reform, that’s arguably the most critical one. The property tax thing is just red meat headline fodder, it might save the average family a hundred bucks (versus the damage of seeing universities and shelters close).

    Comment by Three-Finger Brown Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 12:17 pm

  3. JAH,

I think (hopefully) that Republicans voting for this bill today have come to their senses and understand the futility of linking non-budget reforms to a budget, which is revenue and expenses.

  4. Is there a way to watch the live action?

ilga.gov, House, live video, not loading.

Blueroomstream seems to need a password.

Comment by cdog Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 2:48 pm

  5. The ILGA feed is not working video and audio, it worked for a short time but its down now.

Comment by GLG Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:11 pm

  6. Go to blue stream they have removed the password requirement for today!

But mostly it’s not working as their is no money to improve the technology needed to make it function better.

  8. “House Democrats filed amendments to both the spending and revenue bills today.”

Can anyone tell us what is in those ‘new’ amendments?

Comment by WHY??? Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:21 pm

  9. Seems there was 2 years to do this.
    What a farse

Comment by sharkette Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:27 pm

  10. Could Madigan’s changes be caused by the Governor constantly moving the goal-post on the Dems?

Comment by WHY? Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:28 pm

  11. Hurry you have 32 minutes to read the 605 pg amendment Madigan just filed.

I question his integrity, trustworthiness, etc. Insert troll-talk.

Can he be removed today, please?

Comment by cdog Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:29 pm

  12. The video feed is only active when the speaker (Lang) is calling a bill or resolution. Looks like there’s been some last minute stuff going on.

    Comment by Three-Finger Brown Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:32 pm

  13. The same commenters, here and in Springfield, who screamed yesterday when Madigan wanted to take a day to let things settle and firm up, are now screaming that everything is moving too fast.

Comment by walker Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:48 pm

  14. Someone please explain to me what is bi-partisan about dropping 600 page bills on people with an hour’s notice. Clearly he has been planning this all along. Why couldn’t this have been done two years ago?

Comment by Stuff Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 3:53 pm

  15. walker, point made, but why would Madigan not say, yesterday, that he intended to file a MOAB amendment?

Must be some monster giveaways of taxpayer dollars he’s hiding in there.

He’s been doing it for years, and it’s unacceptable.

(Rauner is junk, but on this he is correct.)

Comment by cdog Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 4:06 pm

  16. cdog, check the update.

Comment by Rich Miller Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 4:19 pm

  17. Three black caucus members voted No on the tax hike (Turner-leadership, Davis-Edu approp chair, and Conyears-Erivin), so the votes should be there if your theory on R votes is correct.

Comment by Anonymous Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 5:20 pm

  18. It appears a few House Republicans have figured out what’s been true for two years: they can be the deciders.

Comment by wordslinger Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 5:37 pm

  20. David Harris is the man.

    Comment by Three-Finger Brown Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 5:39 pm

  21. Rep. Harris, thank you.

Noses looking like their being counted…

Comment by Oswego Willy Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 5:42 pm

  22. Republicans complaining about property taxes. I wonder if anyone can point out to them that the state budget doesn’t use 1 penny of property taxes?

    Comment by Three-Finger Brown Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 5:55 pm

  23. “David Harris is the man.”

Same with Rep. Unes. Very bold statement.

Comment by Grandson of Man Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 5:59 pm

  24. Three Fingers Brown it does not matter whether the state gets 1 cent from property tax. It does matter to the people who pay them. We need property tax reform.

Comment by Dandy Edward Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 6:08 pm

  25. @GOM I am both surprised and impressed by Unes. I did not see him stepping up like that.

Ammons isn’t helping and Breen and Ives seem to be in favor of jobs by bankrupting businesses in Illinois. Not even Kansa tried that route

Comment by JS Mill Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 6:11 pm

  26. Somebody tell Skillhorn how high the top income tax bracket was before JFK proposed the cut. What a dumb comparison to make.

Thanks to the Reps who are demonstrating courage and common sense today. Doing the right thing isn’t easy, but it sure is welcome.

    Comment by 47th Ward Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 6:16 pm

  27. But Danny, this is SB9. Great news, it includes zero property taxes!

Democrats supported various property tax freezes, but the Governor didn’t like them. Sounds like your issue is with him.

    Comment by Three-Finger Brown Sunday, Jul 2, 17 @ 6:19 pm

  28. Keep hearing arguments of cart-before-the-horse (as in budget before alleged needed econimic reforms to increase jobs) as a reason not to pass the revenue bill. Problem is there is a huge pile of dung in front of the horse and cart that unless one or the other go first to steer around the dung (aka junk bond status/14 billion owed). if that means we go backwards (budget first) to steer us around, so be it.

  32. By the skin of its teeth. I was hoping for 73, but 72 will do if it overcomes Rauner’s veto.

  34. Which Rs voted for the higher spending bill on Friday and then voted against today’s bill that proposes to spend even less. How are they going to explain that tortuous gymnastic feat?
