Good advice on a Sunday afternoon

Posted in:

* A Democratic staffer pal of mine texted me: “I’ve done more mental health checks today than a DHS worker.”

I lol’d back and asked how things were going. The reply…

In its most simplistic terms, people just need to stop, breathe, and make decisions. We don’t have time to build a new spaceship; we just need to keep this one from exploding.

Indeed.

  1. Not cynically meant, not an ounce of malice or snark.

As everyone truly worries, honestly, for each other, in the best way, if some of that worry and true concern could be channeled towards deciding to work together, that would help.

Empathy towards your counterpart isn’t weakness. What empathy does is that it allows all sides to find where the light can exist.

    Best to all. Sincerely.

  2. Also, I think that’s the first text I’ve ever received that properly used a semicolon as punctuation and not as part of a wink ;)

  3. For those who are struggling with taking a vote in favor of a tax increase, then maybe you should consider adding chronic pain, intractable pain and opiate dependence as qualifying conditions under the medical cannabis program. This would generate revenue & reduce the number of painkillers being covered under Medicaid & state employees group health insurance. Talk to a current medical cannabis patient and they will tell you that they reduced the number of prescription drugs they take by 2-5 prescriptions once they become a medical cannabis patient.

We have a budget crisis & an opiate/heroin crisis. Look at the money the medical cannabis program generated this past fiscal year and the jobs that were created.

Oh, and PTSD is a qualifying condition.

Did you not read the post?

    ===We don’t have time to build a new spaceship===

Stop trying to be so “helpful.” lol

  5. After the spaceship lifts, that would be an AWESOME idea to work on!

  6. If they do pass a budget soon, something I wonder about is how much different will it be compared to where they were at the end of May. Did elevating the crisis really help either side get more of what they wanted, or was it just an exercise between two over-sized egos? It used to be the May 31st deadline meant something. What I wonder now is will May 31 ever mean anything again, or will we always have to come close to a nuclear meltdown before the sides will finally budge? It’s really a bad precedent.

  7. They should play the Beatles’ song “Let It Be” at the state capitol to help them find some much needed ‘wisdom’.

  8. For some reason, that exchange makes me want to watch The Empire Strikes Back.
