  2. This guy is an ongoing embarrassment.

  3. For the record, I mean Chris Kennedy. Ron Holmes is a cool guy.

Comment by Snucka Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 9:35 am

  4. Bill Daley must “watch” these and say to himself…

“I’m so glad I never fully committed to run for governor.”

Yikes, man, at least show some effort or thoughtfulness… It’s a public forum, lol

  5. You could have gotten rid of the words “sense of humor” and the title on the post would have been just as accurate.

  6. Somewhere an elevator door is opening

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 9:49 am

  7. MICHELLE

The door will open but the elevator cab will not be there.

  8. It appears that this room full of ordinary people who will likely never visit CapitolFax.com enjoyed the joke. You all need to relax. It’s July of 2017. Kennedy is well-liked by rank and file Dems. His poll showed that of the voters that know both he and Pritzker, he is up by 12 points.

Comment by Troubled Dem Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 9:55 am

  9. The more I see, the less I like.

(Disclaimer: I’ll still vote for him if he’s the only alternative to the incumbent)

Comment by Biscuit Head Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 9:56 am

  10. =he is up by 12 points=

You may want to reread what you wrote earlier in your post. It is July of 2017 and a long way from the primary you guy isn’t helping himself.

“He is up by 12 points” ….might become famous almost last words.

Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:00 am

  11. Chris Kennedy needs to shake down Larry David for both more campaign cash and some jokes.

Comment by Curl of the Burl Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:02 am

  12. Kennedy’s weak on the campaign trail, but does it matter in the primary? Maybe all that matters is how good or bad he is compared to Pritzker?

Comment by FromTheLeft Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:07 am

  13. It’s funny.
I remember when Democrats used to enjoy humor and not fall into a fetal position when they heard a joke. What a bunch of killjoys.

All I see are groups of stressed out finger waggers trying to one-up each other.

There’s nothing wrong with Kennedy that a non-politicizing citizen with a sense of humor can handle.

Rauner’s wacky groups are running roughshod over ILGOP. Can we see wacky whiners not run roughshod over ILDEM?

Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:08 am

  14. The crowd laughed. I think they all got the joke. Nothing really to see here. I think CK is going to be our next governor.

Comment by Lamont Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:17 am

  15. Agree with Vanilla Man.

We shouldn’t be as picky with attempted humor as we are with numbers.

Comment by walker Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:21 am

  16. I found it funny. I like dark humor. I can see how dark humor may not be the best option on the campaign trail.

Comment by Montrose Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:22 am

  17. Jeez this whole blog really dislikes Kennedy but it all seems really surface level which is out-of-character for the commenters here.

All I’ve seen is complaints about his speechmaking ability, shaky hands, and now a joke… Does anybody have anything of substance wrong with this guy? Or are we just mad he’s beating the guy with a lot more money?

Comment by Franklin Delano Bluth Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:24 am

  18. ==Jeez this whole blog really dislikes Kennedy but it all seems really surface level which is out-of-character for the commenters here.==

Kennedy has very little that’s “deep” or substantive going for him as a candidate for governor. If he didn’t have the name, no one would look twice at him. So for a candidate built mostly on surface factors, he should be good on the surface. And it’s increasingly apparent that he’s not.

Comment by Periwinkle Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:30 am

  19. Seems like attendees laughed at the joke…so, what’s the hullabaloo?

Comment by cal city crew Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:43 am

  20. Meh.

If the GOP repeals Obamacare without replacing it, a lot of people will die alone. But that’s not funny.

The funniest humor is self-deprecating humor. Pritzker has made some weak efforts at that.

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:46 am

  21. ==The door will open but the elevator cab will not be there.==

Reference to the 10 year anniversary of “Mad Men” debut appreciated.

  22. hey maybe this will be a criticism of Kennedy put out on mailers that JB sends out. several of my female friends are getting JB mail but I am not, which I find weird since I have voted in the Dem primary for a long time.

Comment by Amalia Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 10:57 am

  23. First this blog runs anonymous comments from a women’s event as if it’s objective news (right before pritzker and now some more video from another campaign tracker … what’s this world coming to?

Comment by West Wing Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 11:05 am

  24. =Or are we just mad he’s beating the guy with a lot more money?=

If there’s one thing I can’t stand about this race it’s the fact that a Kennedy gets to claim poverty in comparison to Pritzker, or at least Kennedy’s defenders do. At the end of the day they share the same big advantage: being born into a very good situation.

The Kennedy people are hurt JB was born slightly better off. Go cry to your money.

Comment by DrurysMissingClock Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 11:08 am

  25. === now some more video from another campaign tracker===

    Get used to it.

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 11:23 am

  26. There are two questions about Kennedy:

    1) Does he have a better chance to beat Rauner than JB?

    2) Would he be a better governor than JB?

I think #2 is clear, simply because JB aligned himself with on of our state’s two evil empires (though I like certain things about CK on the merits, while at the same time dislike Bill Daley).

#1 is still an open question. JB’s “I don’t know if I’m voting for Obama” moment shows what kind of “Democrat” he is, he sounds horrible on the Blago tapes, he’s got an off-putting Trump-like ego sticking his name on all his good works. But as The Brains opined and Cyndi Lauper concurred, money changes everything.

Comment by lake county democrat Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 11:24 am

  27. Kennedy, through his repeated faux pas and lackluster campaign to date, has consistently undercut the hopes of those who really want to support him. There is also (important to the big liberal Democrat voting bloc) a question of the degree of his political conservatism. For example, in one Facebook post he may have supported a minimum wage of only $9.46 per hour. https://www.facebook.com/TheRealMikeRowe/posts/10153613096579535 He does seem a modest, honest and likeable person.

Comment by Quiet Sage Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 11:39 am

  28. Not surprising that some are going after Kennedy. I think the voters could reject Pritzker. Too tied to an establishment that most don’t like. I’ve been following Kennedy. On the whole, good.

Comment by Bee Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 12:04 pm

  29. Chris Kennedy evidently likes to show his sense of humor, which is nice, and he isn’t a perfectly-packaged typical politician, which also is nice. But he may need to work on his substance and ideas.

Comment by Christopher Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 12:10 pm

  30. ==He’s got an off-putting Trump-like ego sticking his name on all his good works.==

Walk around downtown and you will see all the great works that the Pritzker’s have donated to this city. Hospitals, arts, cultural landmarks etc. He’s not putting JB on any of this, and the people of Chicago should know how much they’ve given. Very unfair to JB to compare Pritzker donations which help greatly to Trump donations, which are non-existent unless its a news story.

Comment by BuckinIrish Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 12:27 pm

  31. Humor is subjective. There is no such thing as a sense of humor that isn’t odd. That word is mirthless.

Comment by Hamilton Thursday, Jul 20, 17 @ 1:42 pm

  32. “The funniest humor is self-deprecating humor. Pritzker has made some weak efforts at that.”

Weak efforts? The guy kicked off his campaign with a statewide tv buy making fun of his own weight just for starters. Anyone who has spent any time with him will tel you his self-deprecating sense of humor is one of his most endearing features.

  33. If you can land a joke, just don’t tell it.
