*** UPDATED x1 *** Pritzker lampoon’s Rauner’s “Best team in America” comment

Posted in:

* Press release…

Crisis Creatin’ Rauner released a new video today highlighting Bruce Rauner’s so-called “best team in America,” a group of radicals and amateurs, many of whom were hired directly from the Illinois Policy Institute.

After Rauner was asked about his controversial new hires by a Quad City TV station, Rauner said, “we’re building the best team in America.” So far that team has included a staffer fired on his first day for “racially-charged, homophobic and sexually explicit tweets,” and a still employed staffer who “compared abortion to Nazi eugenics.” In total, over 20 Rauner staffers have been fired or resigned in protest and have been replaced by people with little to no government experience and extremist views.

“The only thing Rauner’s new team is ‘best’ at is unleashing crisis on this state,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. ‘‘His new hires will only aid Rauner in furthering the damage he’s done to the state, and their radical views are deeply out of step with the people of Illinois. Surely, even Bruce Rauner and the Illinois GOP can do better than this.”

* The video

Oof.

*** UPDATE ***  That video reminded me of something that a buddy pointed out to me earlier this week and I forgot to post. This is from Gov. Rauner’s recent WSIL TV interview about the hiring and firing of his one-day body man, who, you’ll recall, tweeted out some pretty disgusting things

REPORTER: But weren’t you involved in interviewing him?

RAUNER: Interviewing?

REPORTER: When he was hired?

RAUNER: No. I met him once.

If you watch the video, “I met him once” was said in an offhanded way.

We already know that the governor’s denial about interviewing his own body man has been contradicted by reporters, including Tina Sfondeles at the Sun-Times.

* And if you click here and let the video run for a few seconds, you’ll see the governor appearing at an event with his body man on the day he was fired. Here’s a screen grab…

I suppose that traveling with the guy for a couple/three hours back and forth to an event in Mt. Zion could be characterized as meeting him “once.” Or maybe he was just hoping nobody would notice.

By itself, on a scale of 1-10 this might rise to a 1.3. Not a big deal at all (which is why this is an update and not its own post). But politicians who establish a pattern of telling little fibs to reporters can often find themselves in hot water down the line.

[ *** End Of Update *** ]

* And this is from the ILGOP…

It’s been over 57 days since Mike Madigan and his machine have taken school funding and the futures of Illinois children hostage for their $500 million Chicago bailout.

Today, the Illinois Republican Party has updated BossMadigan.com with a stopwatch to remind voters just how long the Madigan Machine has taken our children hostage.

On May 31st, SB1 passed the General Assembly. Per the Illinois Constitution, the bill is supposed to head to Governor Rauner’s desk.

But Mike Madigan and John Cullerton are intentionally holding the bill, perverting the legislative process.

It’s a blatant assault on our democracy in order to create pressure for their Chicago bailout.

  1. Dear ILGOP,

Rauner vetoed the education portion of the budget.

    Rauner vetoed Higher Education funding.

    Rauner vetoed programs supporting education.

Bruce Rauner vetoes hurt Illinois students.

    Have a nice day.

  2. ==$500 million==

Has anyone asked where this $500 million figure comes from?

==Per the Illinois Constitution, the bill is supposed to head to Governor Rauner’s desk.==

That insinuates the the Constitution is being violated. Whether you think holding it is right or wrong they aren’t violating any rules.

  3. Did I miss Brittany Carl explaing her tweets?

Should be easy enough, if Diana and Bruce want a spokesperson using WWII Germany in her word choices.

    Carl work-product is words.

I guess Rauner’s Crew see her words as acceptable?

Like I said, I may have missed it, but has Ms. Carl, a spokesperson, made any… comment?

And if Ms. Carl isn’t going to… comment… is Diana and Bruce comfortable with Ms. Carl… commenting for Bruce?

  4. Because Madigan is not going to create more Raunerite support. IMO Rauner already has that crowd. That is now his base. Now he just sounds like a whiner.

  5. Demoralized, I think you could easily make an argument that the Senate is.

Go to the bill status for the bill, it says, “Senate Concurs”. Whoever was presiding at the time would have said “Senate bill 1 having received a constitutional majority is hereby declared passed.” That would trigger the 30 days.

And I’m not sure how a judge would feel about the Senate using its own parliamentary rules to get around a constitutional requirement of when they have to present a bill to the Governor.

With that being said, its pretty clear that the Governor would much rather whine about the General Assembly instead of coming up with ways of getting the bill.

  6. ==Today, the Illinois Republican Party has updated BossMadigan.com with a stopwatch to remind voters just how long the Madigan Machine has taken our children hostage.==

Another “second place” concept, after all the clocks about the budget crisis. This comms shop is slow and boring.

I would’ve liked Pritzker bit better if it was mocking/funny. But it’s probably fine for what it is.

Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:33 am

  7. No, Arsenal, those horror-movie tones are the real message. It’s not supposed to be a zing on Rauner, just a friendly reminder that he is jason voorhees

Comment by MissingG Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:37 am

  8. The ad isn’t bad. The montage of Rauner’s face at the close is sufficiently unnerving. But they shoulda included a clip of the Gov reiterating his “unwavering” support of a woman’s right to choose after the report about his staffer’s eugenics comparison.

    Comment by Dr. M Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:40 am

  9. Just keep taking the fight to Rauner! That’s what the Democratic Party has been lacking. And that’s how we beat back Rauner.

Comment by Chicago Cynic Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:46 am

  10. Rich didn’t ask us to rate the ad, but I’d give it an “A-”. Clean, focused, solid punch.

Comment by Scott Cross for President Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:48 am

  11. Pritzker demonstrating he’s the only one with the financial and organizational wherewithal to bring it to Rauner. The others have no resources (Biss, Daiber, Pawar) and no money + disorganized (Kennedy).

Comment by Moe Berg Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:52 am

  12. I am sorry folks, but after watching the pressers the last couple days, anything they say can be taken as pure nonsense. They are simply making things up as they go. “Best Team in America” playing what game?

Comment by Retired Educator Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:52 am

  13. While Rauner pretends everything is just peachy, there’s uncertainty and instability all around him. Rauner emanates crisis, which is not a winning quality…

    Comment by Jimmy H Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 10:59 am

  14. As the old saying goes, this one is going to leave a mark. Keep up the good work.

Comment by Norseman Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 11:04 am

  15. This “best team” also let Lake County literally “float along” for 3 days until he could make sure to get a camera crew there for a photo op. Go market your private equity buzz words and phony everyman routine in Wyoming.

Comment by Obamas Puppy Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 11:10 am

  16. Dear IL GOP:

    you need a new message.

    Best,

    The voters of Illinois

  17. Shakeup Springfield…starting with my own staff!

  18. Great ad. I believe it’s “Kathy Lydon”, not “London”, but whatever.

Comment by Whatever Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 11:25 am

  19. Based on what I’m hearing from my fellow voters in Du Page County, the updated message on BossMadigan.com no longer resonate with them. They did when the Governor first took office, but now after 2 1/2 years of no accomplishments, they are getting progressively disillusioned. I would suggest to the Governor’s team that voters want you to demonstrate results, not rhetoric.

Comment by GA Watcher Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 11:42 am

  20. ==“Best Team in America” playing what game?==

I’d say soccer. Where being called the “Best team in America” equates to lower level mediocrity on the world stage.

  21. ===I suppose that traveling with the guy for a couple/three hours back and forth to an event in Mt. Zion could be characterized as meeting him “once.” Or maybe he was just hoping nobody would notice.===

    Ugh.

It’s not the hugest of hugest…

    Here’s what I have to “believe”…

I have to believe that Rauner “first” met his body guy… “that day”… and Rauner himself, who worked closely with Diana and with his new Crew, allowed a new body guy be put towards him and that “day”… is the lone “meeting”.

I have to believe that. I have to believe that or Rauner fibbed and we have the pictures to show the fib.

I also have to believe as controlling Rauner is with messaging and phoniness and his own schtick would just “allow” anyone to be the person with him most and trust most with his daily “things”

    Hmm.
