No, “Tom” is that other guy in DuPage

* From NBC 5 last night…

Background on this weird and persistent phenomenon is here.

[The person who sent that to me said it was WGN, so it’s been corrected and sorry for the confusion. I hear that’s going around.]

  1. Aren’t they cousins?

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:09 pm

  2. Similar to the confusion between George and Jim Ryan right up until election day 2002.

Comment by Michael Westen Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:11 pm

  3. This is NBC Chicago, not WGN-TV.

Comment by Anon Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:15 pm

  4. Anonymous, distant enough that they could legally marry in Illinois.

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:16 pm

  5. That is Rauner’s attempt to put John Cullerton in the witness protection program so Speaker Madigan can’t find him and control him. Just change his name to Tom.

    Comment by 360 Degree TurnAround Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:25 pm

  6. Tom Cullerton should just change his name to Ben Goldstein — problem solved.

Comment by Just Observing Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:28 pm

  7. Let’s see: Dailey, Dailey, Dailey, Stroger,Stroger, Madigan, Madigan, Lipinski, Lipinski, LaHood, LaHood and Stevenson, Stevenson And those are only relations that have same surname not brother in law cousin or girl friend boyfriend.
We don’t need term limits in this state we need relative limits

Comment by DuPage Saint Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:29 pm

  8. Three out of four ain’t bad. I get it, sometimes 90% isn’t good enough. But the station is correct about most of the words in his name. Give’m some credit.

  9. Meet Johnny, who’s seen most everywhere,
From the Capitol Dome to Logan Square.
But Tommy tries to keep his sights
on his district, near Glendale Heights
    What a crazy pair!

    But they’re cousins,
    Senatorial cousins all the way.
    One pair of matching bookends,
    Different as night and day.

    Where Johnny adores a “minuet”,
The press bantor, the tete a tete,
Our Tommy loves to keep it cool,
Stay the course, he’s no ones fool
    What a wild duet!

    Still, they’re cousins,
    Senatorial cousins and you’ll find,
Don’t laugh alike, don’t walk alike,
At times they “may talk “alike

    You can lose your mind,
When cousins aren’t two of a kind.

  10. They should get a scorecard next time. You can’t tell the players without a scorecard.

  11. Dupage Saint you forgot a few: Silverstein, Burke, Steele, Ervin, Martwick, Mell, etc.

Comment by Michael Westen Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:49 pm

  12. ===Dailey, Dailey, Dailey===

Well I don’t know who those people are, but what about the Sullivans? There were so many Sullivans in Springfield they started their own caucus. What about that?

    Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 1:52 pm

  13. Hey DuPage Saint, I know it’s fashionable to mindlessly bash Chicago out there, but can we at least get the spelling of one of our state’s great political dynasties right?

    D A L E Y.

Spell it wrong and are you really any better than whomever just called John Tom? Or Dan Proft’s “Journals” that called him Tom Fullerton?

Comment by Irish Democrat Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 2:03 pm

  14. Well I would love to blame spell check but this is all on me
Frankly I thought I got Lipinski wrong and wasn’t to sure about Stevenson. My apologies to all the Daleys

Comment by DuPage Saint Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 2:09 pm

  15. How many Bradys are there in Illinois politics? Then there’s Dunkin, Durkin, Durbin….

Comment by IllinoisBoi Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 2:18 pm

  16. ==Anonymous, distant enough that they could legally marry in Illinois.==

Maybe. But being Irishmen, both think they could do better. And there is solid evidence; both have.

  17. We’re in the state where Kirk Dillard, was receiving well wishes in the mail for Mark Kirk.

It’s confusin’. There’s a case to be made for having only a few names, isn’t there?

    Comment by A guy Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 2:46 pm

  18. Don’t forget the honorable Brent Hassert being blamed for Dennis Hastert’s creepiness.

Comment by Michael Westen Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 3:03 pm

  19. I miss living in a simpler world, one where tom cullerton was confused with Dan Kotowski. Ah, good times.

Comment by Anon Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 4:05 pm

  20. OW - Why did you have to give us an earworm from the Patty Duke Show? It wasn’t that good of a show when it was on in the mid 60’s. Ugh.

Comment by Huh? Thursday, Jul 27, 17 @ 6:13 pm

  21. - Huh? -
