“MADIGAN IS ILLINOIS’ OWN DR. FRANKENSTEIN,” SAYS DRURY – “HE CREATED GOVERNOR RAUNER”
HIGHLAND PARK, ILLINOIS – Scott Drury, Democratic candidate for Governor, released the following statement today:
“As the finger-pointing continues over who is responsible for the lack of an education-funding bill, overshadowed is why this is an issue at all in 2017. Without question, Bruce Rauner’s ascension to power was the direct result of Mike Madigan’s failed policies and leadership. When Democrats had total control of Illinois, instead of promoting progressive ideas that helped the working class, Madigan promoted structural deficits, unfunded pension liabilities and education inequity, while Illinois’ reputation as one of the most corrupt states in modern history flourished. Against, this backdrop, Democrats lost the 2014 gubernatorial election, as voters searched for anything but more of the same.”
“Madigan is Illinois’ own Dr. Frankenstein – the man responsible for creating a monster he cannot control. If Illinois is to prosper, we not only have to reject Bruce Rauner, we have to elect a leader who understands and rejects the failed policies and leadership of Madigan that put him into power. The failure to do this will lead to four more years of Madigan’s creation – Bruce Rauner.”

Drury deserves to be “Dunkin’d” soon. Drury may need to stay near his voting switch at all times. Remember when Dunkin didn’t vote for Secretary of State approp and domestic violence money? He stepped away from his switch, and none of his colleagues had his back to help him with the “yes” button.

Oops, he forgot to mention that he is a former Federal Prosecutor.
If he had included that fact the statement would have had immediate credibility.

I try very hard to be open-minded and accepting, but there’s something (a lot?) about Drury that I find downright irritating. He just leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps it’s his, what seems to be, holier than thou attitide…and blatant hypocrisy…dunno.

Why doesn’t Drury keep his eye on the ball?
In fact, you know who created Rauner? It may be lily-livered Democrats who refused to support Quinn in 2014. You know, people like Rep. Scott Drury.
He couldn’t keep his eye on the ball then, and he can’t now. If he doesn’t laser focus, his career in the big leagues will be a record of hand-wringing and failure.

Drury wants to be taken seriously but he’s raised no money and has resorted to lashing out from the cheap seats. He might as well change his name to Fioretti or Waguespack.

The ILGOP allowed a stranger in our house.
It wasn’t Madigan. It was Rauner seeing a failing company and buying it up.
Proft is “CEO” of the Rauner politics now, installing Matt Besler, the helper of Ken Dunkin thru hundreds of thousands of dollars IOP touted and gave Ken Dunkin.
John Tillman got the Governor’s Office, from Kristina Rasmussen who touted that IPI budget, to Diana Rickert and her askewed view of state governing practices, to even the hire of Brittany Carl, the think tank thinking has infested the governor’s office with Tillman having his grasp on the governing thoughts and policy.
Nope.
Nope it wasn’t Madigan.
We Republicans let strangers, Diana and Bruce Rauner in our house. This is what happens.
If Drury wants to make the case for Dems, and Madigan, and that dynamic, have at it.
But Republicans, we did this. We chose it. We failed Illinois on our own.

Question is does he take enough votes away from JB and Kennedy to allow Biss a win?

What isn’t Madigan responsible for, really? One could probably create a causal path for why it is his fault the White Sox have the worst AL record.
Unless Madigan actually recruited Rauner to run for governor, this is a very, very strained analogy from a one-trick, former federal prosecutin’ pony running a sanctimonious, self-righteous vanity campaign.

The Dem Party completely squandered any opportunity to behave responsibly in accordance with their public agenda.
Just like the national Dems, what they say and what they do are completely disconnected.

The Dunkin comparison seems silly to me. Drury isn’t running for reelection. He’s trying to gain traction in the crowded gov primary field.
I imagine he thinks that if he can become an alternative to the party insider choices, he has a chance to compete. Attacking Madigan makes a ton of sense in that context.

Drury will end life as one of those senile angry old men writing opinion letters to his local newspaper that causes rational individuals to collapse in fits of laughter. I am glad he is a former prosecutor and hopefully appointment standards have increased since his time to avoid more of such lightweights occupying a critical role.

While in many ways he does have a point (failed policies lead to the desire for an outsider) I’m not seeing how making that argument helps Mr. Drury’s case.
Does he think statewide Dem primary voters are ready to rise up against the Speaker? I’m just not seeing that as likely.
This would be a good argument after a person got a nomination. A Dem could appeal to the left and the state party, get the nod, and swerve right. That would make sense politically.
This though? Right or wrong, it just doesn’t help his case for the nomination.

I would say that Drury is going to get his clocked cleaned here. But that only serves to remind me that he never received his clock. But when you’re on an island by yourself time is a bit irrelevant.

If only there was a clockless former federal prosecutor to save us. He’s an alternative reality: Feckless Scott Drury votes to override Rauner’s first veto and Madigan succeeds in the override, the governor realizes that he has to work across the aisle and we don’t go without a budget for years with unpaid bills going from $5 billion to $15 billion. That fantasy is closer to reality than Scotty boy getting 4% of the vote in the democratic primary. Someday fed boy will look back at the joke his elective career was and accept that he blew it.

Progressive Voters in Drury’s district rejected Quinn in 2014. Quinn lost by double digits there. That same year, progressive voters in 58 rejected national democrats. Schneider lost to Dold in Drury’s district. Drury won by 11 points. This messaging makes sense it is his lane to claim in the primary.

Of course Drury is correct. Democrats squandered their chance at fixing illinois during their 12 consecutive years of total control of Springfield.
Instead of retooling their message and changing course they are doubling down on their failed policies.
How else did a Republican win the Governor’s race in a state Hillary won by 17 points?
No economic development message to the private sector, or middle class families, just rubber-stamping whatever their special interest trial lawyers and unions demand.
When the leader of their party is as radioactive as Nancy Pelosi it’s time to break up the Madigan machine.

Correct
This was the wedge that Rauner used to get elected. That being said, Drury voted for slashing retirement benefits (with the lame excuse that he needed the Supremes guidance about what was consititutional…some lawyer he is.
And with the 0% of reflection on his own life/personality/career that is the hallmark of the Scott Drury Experience- he has failed to support any progressive economic legislation he has had an opprotunity to vote on

Word, I am not a Rauner supporter, but that doesnt mean I don’t believe in smaller government, less regulation, etc.
I may vote for Rauner, if the choice is between him and a machine-Dem.

so here’s the problem i have with anyone arguing that somebody else created the problems since rauner was elected. sure, governors aren’t all powerful, but the fact that rauner seemed to run on the same platform as sam brownback and appears to have similar results is significant.
what’s the (popular) definition of insanity?

Drury owes his seat to Madigan. Had the speaker not cleared the field for him, he would never have held elected office. Shortly, Scott will be a former elected official struggling to pay the bills for his one man firm.

In Illinois, nothing is more progressive than standing up to Madigan and trying to change the Springfield power structure. That being said, those knocking Drury’s record, clearly haven’t looked at it or are stumping for other candidates who recognize he is running in an open lane.

Millionaire tax- no
Override of Rauner’s veto of budget- no
Unconstitutional pension reform- yes
The only “progressive” issues Drury has supported involve gun control and marriage equality, which in saner times would make him a moderate Republican
But let’s not forget his greatest legislative achievement- a day honoring the Grateful Dead when they came to Chicago

Rainer’s sustained anti-Madigan campaign will have some impact on the General voters, but not on the Dems who will show up for the Primary. Drury won’t get to the General with that message.
