Met Rod several years ago in the gym at the Peninsula Hotel. It was right after the Iraq war and Iraq’s men’s soccer team was making an unlikely run toward a medal in the Olympics. I was watching a match while working out and Rod couldn’t help but interject himself. A Faces CD of live cuts at the BBC had just come out and I chatted with him about that as well as soccer. Regular guy. He’d been watching soccer matches at Mother Hubbard’s while in Chicago. I told him about a proper soccer pub, the Globe, up on Irving Park. A few days later he was on their web site. Glad I could help.
