Pawar was also with Hillary Clinton

Posted in:

* Remember yesterday when we discussed how both Sen. Daniel Biss and Ameya Pawar are battling over the Bernie Sanders vote? Biss was with Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, but what I didn’t realize yesterday was that Pawar was a Clinton primary supporter, too…

#ImWithHer . But no matter who you support, make sure you VOTE and fulfill your civic duty. https://t.co/ouVrvKdSX5

  2. I don’t really blame any candidates for supporting Hillary over Bernie.

But I sure blame someone (Coleman - Pawar’s LG candidate) that endorsed Mike Bost over any Democratic Congressional candidate.

  4. Pawar was also with Mayor Emanuel in 2015 and not Chuy Garcia. However, I’m not sure how much those things should matter…

  5. Progressives really haven’t been given a great slate to choose from. You have 2 guys who can talk, but in reality one voted for pension “reform” that cut benefits and the other just picked a dude for his running mate that endorsed Mike Bost. Pritzker is saying what he has to and Kennedy doesn’t stand for anything except grabbing the morning newspaper.

  6. Really tough to pretend you’re a Bernie-Bro wanna be when there’s a public record of you being #WithHer or in Biss’ case, passing petitions for her.

Hey, here’s an idea. Maybe the Bernie crowd should let the past be the past and focus on the best way to defeat Bruce Rauner.

We are. That’s why we have already overlooked them for a better candidate.

  8. Not sure why Biss’ pension reform effort should be held against him by non-union progressives. Yes it failed, but frankly, we really do have a pension problem in this state. And instead of bloviating, he actually sat down and tried to craft a constitutional solution. That’s a plus for me. Soundbites are easily, actually trying to govern in difficult situations (like the pension issue) is hard.

  9. With J.B., Kennedy, or even Biss, I would say that support for Hillary was inconsequential. But for Pawar, who has premised his whole campaign on being the only true progressive in the race, the revelation that he was a Clinton backer is devastating. It blows his credibility to a large extent.

  10. Thank goodness the left is elevated beyond purity tests and holding grudges from primary battles /sn

  11. Bernie is not a Democrat.

  12. I’ll repeat this from yesterday — much of the “resistance” grassroots groundswell that both Pawar and Biss hope to tap into is led by women, many of whom were Hillary supporters and many of whom are not big Bernie fans. To treat Hillary as a dirty word or support for her as a death knell for a grassroots candidate is wrongheaded.
